  • With these signals and a custom controller, did you have to add resistors for the lights or are the resistors pre-assembled as part of the crossing signal? Thanks for any help anyone can give!

  • i have a model train set with a steam engine but do you have to have wires on the controller or do you just pug it in

  • Everyone listen up: DO NOT buy the Walthers Crossing Signal Controller if you have, or plan to upgrade to DCC. As it says in the package, the controller is only for use on DC layouts. DCC systems can damage the controller.

  • @royalflush5000 This is specifically why I did NOT use the Walthers controllers. If you read, I used LogicRail, which are 100% DCC compatible. Only the signals themselves are from Walthers.

  • No gates?

  • @disneyfan81 Many crossings along the B&O/DT&I/C&O in Ohio just have lights. That's slowly changing, but this is still accurate. The new layout will have plenty of gated crossings, however. You should check that out at youtube(dot)com/ModernDTI. This layout was dismantled years ago!

  • Was the DT& I Cryo car prototypic??

  • @cvgeeps No, I made up the logo specifically for the car just for fun. I thought it turned out nice. :-)

  • Cool

  • How does the Logic Rail unit function? I've been wanting to get some of the Walther's single overhead modern cantilevers but don't really understand what's involved in getting them to function.

  • It detects a train optically (there are other methods, but this is what's supplied) and it has a built in flasher unit and timers and the whole works. If you google logic rail technologies you can see their whole line of products. I have used them for grade crossing detection as well as signal systems on the new layout.

  • That seems pretty good! Especially since this should work with either DCC or DC right?

  • It is totally independent of the track, so it works fine with DCC or DC or AC or battery or even if you just push the train...haha.

  • And what did you construct your roads/sidewalks with? Are they the Walthers roads, plaster of paris, water putty, or something else?

  • I used balsa wood and sealed the joints with either putty or woodland scenics smooth-it. I also used the smooth-it for the grade crossings.

  • I bought those same crossing signals. Incredible, aren't they? I just love mine on my HO layout. I'm waiting for true scale N Scale Crossing lights that are same model. NJ Products just came out with some Blvd Crossing Signals, but not as many lights as this unit you have.

  • Actually the lack of lighting effects was one of the reasons I stayed with HO scale. I would have preferred the long trains and such of N scale, but I love lights and little details too much :-)

  • I do agree so much with you!!! BUT, I have a room that allows me to have a 8' x 10' layout, which I don't consider big enough for HO, but N scale is fine.

  • Well my layout's only 6x13 but I get a lot in a little space!

  • Hey great layout. How did you do your roads?

  • That's on the old layout and I used woodland scenics smoothit. I've since switched to using balsa wood as it's a lot less messy!

  • very nice. love the layout

  • Awesome work Shaun...love your layout

  • You have a great layout dude. I love your crossing signals, the traffic light, all your scenery... your road signs really stick out at me. Are those from Blair Line LLC?

  • They are indeed Blair Line. The Crossing signals and traffic Lights are Walthers. :-)

  • Hi,

Two Sd40-2's look like it am I correct?
