  • SWEET!

  • INITIATE PEEPING!

  • @HardcoreGayButtsecks

Think about it: light is coming through one side and coming out the other UNbent. That means it will also go the other way UNbent. In other words, yes, they will be able to see through it.

  • Thank you sir, you have raising my creeping effectiveness by 300%!

  • Son of a bitch, who knew...

  • @HardcoreGayButtsecks Such a great question, but wait a minute WTF is that name again??

  • Another productive day at the office.

  • Am i the only person who thought the thumbnail was a penis?

  • @ConstantlyRushing yes you are!

  • @ConstantlyRushing yes lolllll

  • This legitimately works if you use the right type of glass (i.e. it has to be frosted, not textured, glass and you have to stick it to the frosted side of the glass, not the smooth side). The next time I'm in a bathroom where the door is frosted glass, I'm going to hope that the frosting is on the inside and that if it's not, no one near me knows about this trick. haha

  • Doesn't work on the frosted glass in my office. Just tried.

  • ah maybe thats it, I might have textured not frosted glass. :( I wanted it to work... wah.

  • well frosted glass has microimperfections on the surface refracting light chaotically. my guess is the glue fills them and the plastic strip provides an uniform surface thus light passes coherently.

  • @beruman I approve!

  • god damn spy...

  • HAX !

  • YOU'RE A WIZARD HARRY!

  • Quite strange indeed

  • are you a wizard?

  • @DarkgreenXatu are you an angel?

  • i dun really understand what it uses for ? stick some to glass to see thru mirror ?

  • Oh My Got :-ss

  • it's fake !

  • Lady...

  • hehe, can i use this for bathroom mirror

  • Hic, dislike or like :(

  • Comment removed

  • OMG!!! Amazing

  • Muito legal.

  • That's a pretty cool effect. If someone can make use of that awesome trick, though, that would be even cooler! =)

  • Does it matter which side of the glass you put the tape on?

  • Great. Now you creep.

  • its frosted glass, the adhesive from the tape fills the small nooks and crannies from the glass being sand blasted. cool though!

  • very coolll

  • WHICH!!!

  • thats cool!!!

  • Most tapes should work. The glass is "frosted" because it's got loads of tiny tiny bumps and dents on the frosted side, so when light shines through it it gets all scrambled and you can't make out what's on the other side. The glue on the tape fills these bumps and smooth it out so the light doesn't get scrambled anymore. It could also work with some types of liquid as well, perhaps vegetable oil of some sort.

Also, both sides can see through. Sorry :)

  • @HardcoreGayButtsecks They can see inside as well. Sorry :)

  • BURN THE WITCH!!!!!!!

  • This... will be useful *tee-hee*

  • The Fuck...

  • ITS TAPE

  • what about the other side

  • Really? Scotch tape? So other brands won't work, just the "Scotch" brand?

  • WHAT THE FU----

  • can you look from the other side in?

  • Son, why are you wasting company's time?

  • This was actually described in Popular Science magazine -- in the June 1937 issue!

Google "frosted tape ground glass" and find in in Google Books

  • meh, no big deal. it's obvious how it works.

  • corrects the light rays dumb.

  • Don't know it it's been said yet but... misleading thumbnail

  • The clear adhesive fills the tiny holes and fractures on the surface which make the glass "frosted," much like repairing a crack in a windshield or glasses. The cellophane then serves as a patch over top of the fill.

  • witchcraft

  • Whhhhhhhat

  • wat

  • What about other side?

  • @SLee1337 you sir have silenced youtube. i don't know whether to thank you for the laugh or turn and run. so i will do both

    ~~o "later. thanks"

    ~~/|\

    ~~/\

  • WHAT SORCERY IS THIS

  • @tylerdegraaf probably shot with an iphone. it won't shoot in 16:9 unless it's held horizontally

  • @tylerdegraaf I lol'ed.

  • not trying to defend @lilprplebnny but from what I've read he/she/it wasn't trying to say that frosted glass is really glass with ice on/in it but that @TheFarmacyMan was creating a hoax by making this sheet of frosted glass that way and calling it 'frosted glass' would make the video not a hoax as that would be a reasonable name for the panel he made. Obviously this isn't the case and @lilprplebnny is an idiot and their argument that his thumb created the effect was just him smoothing the glue.

  • anyone sensible has the "frosted" side on the side where they want privacy - NOT on the side where peering toms can use tape

  • if I pass with my finger isn't the same thing? Like we do with our mirrors after the shower? -.-

  • @VitorVitoriaBaia Hehe, frossed glass isnt that normal glass, it's the glass you have on showers for example, so that people can't see trought..

  • Frosted glass is typically frosted on one side, not both. The tape must be applied to the frosted side, not the smooth side, if both sides are not frosted.

Yes, the adhesive on the clear/translucent tape helps fill some of the cavaties that are generated when glass is etched. Sometimes etching is done by acid, but ornamental etched glass (like a name etched onto a window after the glass is installed) is done by sand blasting.

  • Accidental spy!

  • I love how the first top rated comment is all sophisticated and the second one is all perverted haha

  • Sweet, now I can see my dick.

  • @Surkis it's encased in frosted glass?

  • This is awesome

  • Ok Discovery Channel, do a "how it works" video on this.

  • Here's how I think it works: witchcraft.

  • soooo....for people who have shower doors with that material....

  • but what does it look like from the other side?

  • he's a witch get him!!

  • I'm going with refractive index matching

  • You realise it's not opaque to begin with? It's translucent.

  • You realise it's not opaque to beging with? It's translucent.

  • old.

  • obvs an issue of polarity

  • @lilprplebnny 'Frosted glass' does not mean it's cold. Do you honestly think these types of glass can only be installed in offices cold enough to freeze whatever it's frosted with?

Maybe no one asked your question before because it makes no sense. It's like asking why the frosting on a cake doesn't evaporate once it's outside the freezer.

  • @1971ojoalparche1971 this isnt in a office, its in a storage place, and people aon this channel are fuckin retarded

  • @lilprplebnny I have lost all faith in humanity after seeing your dumb comments.

    We are all doomed...

  • @lilprplebnny That is possibly the dumbest thing I have ever read. We are all stupider for having listened to what you just said. I award you no points, and may god have mercy on your soul.

  • @dpeterse how is that dumb in any possible, way, youd have to be the most retarded person in the world to think what i said was stupid

  • @lilprplebnny Yeah, now I'm convinced you are literally retarded. You really think the glass is "frosted" because it's cold? Are you seriously that dumb? Are you like five years old?

  • @lilprplebnny

AHAHAH Yes, a permanent cold frozen frosted glass in an office. Good job lilprplebnny!

  • @lilprplebnny Frosted glass IS NOT COLD. Just because it has the word frosted does not mean that it's cold!

  • @lilprplebnny haha you're stupid

  • @lilprplebnny hahahaha o god this world....

  • @lilprplebnny *facepalm*

  • @lilprplebnny idiot that does not know what frosted glass is. Or perhaps troller.

  • @lilprplebnny You're an idiot. Please don't breed.

  • @lilprplebnny This is literally the stupidest thing I've ever heard.

  • Okay lilprplebnny I understand where you are coming from. Actual manufactured frosted glass is not actually "frosted" . It is sand blasted or acid etched to make the surface no longer smooth. It is called frosted glass because literal frosted glass does the same thing. The tape most likely woks because the light is exiting a smooth surface.

Oh and the reason no one has suggested your explanation is because no one is as dumb as you and believes frosted glasses is actually frosted.

  • The surface of frosted glass is etched so that when it is struck by light, the light is scattered and any images viewed through the glass become distorted and largely indistinguishable. Placing tape upon the surface of the glass fills in its irregularities and allows the light to pass through with much less scattering! omg facts.

  • Something more amazing happens just unrolling the scotch tape called triboluminescence. Google search for "Are black holes made of scotch tape?" and if your physics is nerd-worthy, you'll enjoy the read.

  • @evilsinzy haha yeah I saw that X-ray thing happen on Bones. Didn't know it was a real thing.

  • he frosted glass has one side that has very tiny ridges. The light that travels through the glass is deflected/scattered exiting. The tape's glue smooths the rigid surface (like water on a shower door) allowing the light to continue a straighter path.

I actually sent this video to Prof. Muller at Berkeley to share with his students learning about light. He replied it was a very good example, but he was not aware of a name for it. He said this will happen anytime you smooth a rough surface.

  • Not to nitpick, but the glass is tranclucent, not opaque. Opaque means no light gets through, translucent means light gets through, but not enough to see a detailed image on the other side.

  • @nycomedyradio TRANSLUCENT... dammit.

  • Sooo, what you're saying is you are a wizard?

  • It's pretty obvious - scotch tape contains some particles of transparency so you could see what you put it on, and these particles neutralise the particles of invisibility on the glass. I'm pretty sure Plato wrote some article about it in National Geographic.

  • kind of obvious how it works...

  • its magic!!!!!!!! oooooooooooooooooooo....

  • Rawnoodles10 is correct. Notice how it only works where he has pressed the tape down flat.

  • Sweet, now I can look into showers.

  • @NinjaDuck1337 AWWW YEAH!

  • @NinjaDuck1337 Not if both side are frosted.

  • diabolical

  • wallhack!

  • How is this weird?

  • Where is you'r god now ?

  • Go learn how LCD monitors work. You will see why this works.

  • So this is what you do at work all day...

  • i got a virus from that site reddit. be careful.

  • going to friends house. waiting til his sister is in the shower. ahhh yeah

  • To all the shower comments

    1. It wouldn't be deemed acceptable for you to be in there tape-free or not.

    2. Condensation

    3. Congrats on not being original

  • @FreeAsInFreedoooooom its a joke. lighten up bill nye the science guy

  • GOOD GOD THIS IS AMAZING

  • actuay reddit broe my eyboard

  • Had to remove MS Remova Too virus my brother got from cicing on reddit, I have been a tech nerd a my ife. Sorry for speing, spied mi on my eyboard, so eys between h and ' dont wor.

  • reddit taught me how to be a better pervert...

  • that logic dude

look up WHY frosted glass isn't clear and you'll know why this works

  • people are willing to believe anything they see on youtube nowadays

  • WHAT HTE FUCK

  • virus gave me a reddit.

  • reddit is no good. someone hacked my identity from that site.

  • @airwalk12121 That would be your fault, not the fault of reddit.

  • @JuryDutySummons People say stuff like that, to keep the trolls from coming to reddit. (also reddit will steal all your moneyz)

  • @cameronxcrazy Ohhh I see. Yet another meme fly's over my head.

  • @cameronxcrazy Only, it's an idiotic plan that has backfired and caused a lot of Youtube commenters to visit Reddit.

  • Ebaums world rules!

  • THUMBS UP IF OMG FACTS SENT YOU HERE!

  • Found about it 13 years ago, when I was 7

  • Came here via FARK.COM!

  • @draoi99 On reddit? I went on reddit once and it gave my computer a keylogger and a trojan virus, never again!

  • @TheWaq91 OMG you're an idiot. You gave yourself a virus, not reddit.

  • @lucaskelly11

I hope you don't use reddit. That is all.

  • @lucaskelly11 Reddit gave me a virus too :( You shouldn't go there

  • i'd be interested to know what it look like on the other side? can you spy on people or can they tell that its less opaque? would a piece of tape on that side clear things up further?

  • @Kill3rification No, reddit gives you viruses and horrible spyware. Beware!

  • @GermanSeabass No, he means that he's one of the few idiots who still use Digg.com and that's their way of trying to keep people from leaving Digg and going to Reddit, a far better, more stable website that isn't paid by advertisers to send dozens of threads to the top (i.e. FOX affiliates).

  • @XexxRott lol @ "stable website". Reddit has more server issues than any other site I've ever been to.

  • Here's how I think it works, if anyone cares. The glue on the tape fills in the small imperfections on the surface of the glass. Since the glass, the glue, and the tape are clear, filling in the imperfections (the frosting) makes the glass clear.

  • @rawnoodles10 thanks :D

  • @rawnoodles10 the issue with that is that the glass is probably "frosted" on both sides. So either the frosting on both sides is a small amount, and, when combined, makes in opaque, or somehow frosting being on the outside of glass your are looking through makes it so you can see through it.

  • @rawnoodles10 thats what i was thinking too

  • @rawnoodles10 Actually it's not due to the glue, it's due to the smoothness of the tape.

  • WITCHCRAFT!

  • Tape a solid line across it. Awesome looking glass.

  • My guess is that this glass is only frosted on one side, as I cannot see how it would be possible otherwise

  • what is this sorcery!?

  • Is it equally transparent from the other side?

  • Question: is it also clear from the other side?

  • @zealot33

I demand an answer to this question.

  • @zealot33 Yes, it's also clear from the other side.

  • @zealot33 if it isn't, it'll be perfect for spying on people LOLOLOLOL

  • @zealot33 Yes the glass is clear from both directions, interesting tip though, this will only work on the rough, frosted side of the glass. So as long as the rough side of your bathroom windows is inside, you don't have to worry about peeping toms LOL

  • @zealot33 Lol you pervert!

  • @zealot33 Yes it is

  • @zealot33 Yes it would be. The same thing happens if you get etched glass wet.
