Thats Dean Kiely a Republic Of Ireland goalkeeper, excellent keeper but Shay Given is a worldclass keeper,if he was Italian or Spanish the world would be raving about him,hes bailed out the epublic i dont know how many times.Shay is TOP man and doesnt fluff crosses like Cech.
Hey, I'm 18 and try to learn to dive. I've never had a gaolkeepertraining. I have one main problem. I think I dont know how to land in a good way. I try to land on my upperleg first, then hip, then shoulder, but my hips always hurt after a few dives. Does anyone have any tips for me?
Hey, I'm only 16 and I'm not that tall so it might be a little different for you :D, but try not to think about the way you land. Worry about the save, and try to catch the ball if you can. One thing I'm working on is shuffling before I dive. When I do this, I get there faster so I don't have to dive as much. This helps because I'm not doing these crazy dives where my body is messed up in midair.
...Continued: However, when I do have to dive, I usually naturally land on the side of my shin, then side of my thigh, then my side, then the side of my stomach. This may work for you, but really it just comes naturally to different people. Hope this helps!
this a great point - do you see how other keepers land? if you watch van der sar and buffon they tend to dive late without there feet leaving the ground much, but casillas and campos and some of these gys are more agile and so bring there legs up high so landing with the ball is ideal...
this method works great all u hav to do is shuflle around when u see the ball comin toward u. u get too the ball and then dive for it then this is the hard bit when u land try land on your shoulder to your waist then roll if i hurts try puttin the ball in front off u so u dont hurt your self. it will be had to do the dive and rollin method but keep practicin so u can get used to it but this may not work for som people as they dont like this method.

Hands should not be rock hard, they shouldn't be soft either. Somewhere inbetween is perfect.

he never said hands should be rock hard

@ccsatddy It's because they shouldnt... they're supposed to absorb the ball

SucceSS
Step-Skip-Save.
When i dive,i go sort of like ankles, leg, thigh, waist, torso, then of course, head behind the ball. <---If its near me.
If its far away,i tend to land on everything below the waistline at near enough the same time.
Mind you,im not exactly Coupet,Casillas or Buffon for that matter :D

what u have to do is cushion your landing with the ball. that way you have lees impactwith your body
