Far from it dude. Steven Wiley started the Christian rap ordeal in 1985. Michael Peace released the first ever full length rap record in 1987 with RRRock it Right. A year later, P.I.D. surfaced. D-Boy might have begun doing his thing around 86 or 87, but his presence wasn't known in the rap world until 1989.

Wow. SFC "Listen Up" was my first rap tape. I had all Stephen Wileys's records's Ultimate Rap and pretty much everything else. People forget to mention JC and the Boyz who actually put SFC on the map. Sup from SFC is the dopest MC of all time.
Actually bboysimons, I've heard that there were 2 people BEFORE Wiley. DeWayne Golightly (who used "Rev. Rap" as his artist name) and someone who just called themselves the "Plain White Rapper". Not sure that Rev. Rap ever had any tapes, PWR is supposedly cassette only. Have only READY about these though..can't find anyone who has them.
I remember PWR, I'll have to dig it out. I remember it being very plain and very white... I also have some vinyl of a guy named MC Sweet...I have to dig that out too. I'll try to upload it sometime....
Allow me to clarify on the John Reuben issue. As a solo artist, he was the Christian white rapper to be successful because TobyMac didn't venture out on his own until the end of 2000 when the guys of DC Talk all went solo. Though D-Boy was first in 1989, his life was sadly taken in a drive by shooting less than a year following his debut album Plantin a Seed.
stephen wiley bible break, super c, apocalypse, d-boy sadly dc talk i still got michael peace record and stephen tape. no sfc first record one song on a mix tape called ultimate rap OUR KRS one was sup the chemist and 12 th tribe sucked both albums did. cant forget the first idol king....best record...
D-Boy was cool, but it was a shame he was killed just after the release of his second album. Mike-E believe it or not was seen dancing with DC Talk on tour back in 1990 before he did his own rap career.

One last one: SFC were the first Christian rap group to release an album directly to CD.

So here's the breakdown of Christian rap from the 80's - today:
Stephen Wiley - first artist to sell a Gospel rap cassette
Michael Peace - first artist to nationwide media attention
P.I.D. - the Christian alternative to Run-DMC
12th Tribe - first west coast group to bring a non-gangsta message to the masses
Gospel Gangstas - first group of ex gang bangers to transition to Christian hip hop.....continued
