I really love it how Americans complain about their pop scene. Instead of doing this, they shall find out about their death metal bands (Malevolent Creation, Death, Misery Index etc.), or the thrash scene (Overkill, Exodus, Testament, etc.). Not really...In most of those lands pop, rap, christian music still reigns dominent in the mass culture, but they do produce good underground bands...as does any country. Hell, I've heard good Brazilian and Chinese Folk Metal. There are more lovers of black metal in America than Norway, and probably more Black Metal Bands from America than Norway, but the country is bigger. I still think Scandinavia produces the best folk/black metal, but america has some good shit as well.

Plus America is a great place for modern tech death if you're into that craziness.

But America pioneered in those genres, that I know and I'm proud of. It's kind of a good and bad thing we got here in norway where, you never think your as good as someone else then you keep on practicing all the time. we call it "janteloven"

I do enjoy thrash, but for the time being thrash kinda died off though we are having a second wave of thrash with bands like Lazarus A.D., Warbringer, Evile, and the like. But for the time being, most of the music I listen to comes from the countries I mentioned earlier, regarding Death and Doom.
