I dunno dude... I mean they could have easily been actors... and they haven't written down anything, so we can't know for sure if he was correct.

Also, he said that she is off by 3, but he didn't write the number before people started guessing, so he could have claimed it to be anything. Thereby also picking out an actor.

He could have easily picked out the actors for his questions since it wasn't random. : /

Derren NEVER messes up... on stage atleast. throughout the show, it may seemed like he slipped a bit but EVERYTHING he does is part of his fundamentals for the show as a whole... Every word and hand gesture he does is probably a part of the show as well

I once worked as a stage manager for a mentalist who did a similar number trick.

He had a card with three pre-written numbers on one side and his assistant in the house had the audience write their numbers, then flipped it over for the last guy to add.

I don't know if that's how Brown does it, but either way he's a phenomenal showman and a phenomenal magician

Its not real, none of it is...thats the point. The fun that you and I can have as an audience is trying to figure out what form of trickery is used and when. :)

@Theizzer His memory is very remarkable. I couldn't really say what the limits of it are. However, I can say that it would be impossible for him to have a group research every member of the audience. I regularly go to concerts (I'm a pianist) and often times I buy the tickets for me and my friends. Sure they can research me, but how about the 1-3 others who came with me for whom they have no information about? Data collection at the show in person? Impossible, and also we would know.

Think about it. There is so much info about you on the internet these days. It's not how he does all of it but you could find someone's shopping patterns, their favorite things and employment (Facebook, Myspace) Also, criminal profilers can tell all kinds of things based on someones crime. If they can do that, then Derren can tell all kinds of things from what your favorite things are, your hair color, race, and yes what you are wearing.

Blaine has some of his performances staged... audience members have spoken out after the shows and told that Blaine has staged the performance and what they saw isnt the same thing that the people who will watch the performance on video or t.v. sees.

OK...one more note. DB's sense of humour is revealed with "3 or 4 people wrote down 3 digit numbers......the total must have been at least 4,000". That, of course is impossible - which 3 or 4 3-digit-numbers total more than 4,000??. Must have been at least 5 poeple, with the 6th person adding them up. See other posts for method/solution.

Why is the total correct? The "usher" who passed the notebook round was another helper. The notebook has two fronts - one where the audience write down the numbers, the other with a pre-written list (using 3 different handwriting styles). When the usher hands the book to the 4th person, they flip the book over, making it appear as if the 4th person is reading the "audience list". They are, of course, adding up the total written before the show.

The 'psychic' girl is simply identified as the second person chosen from the audeience. As for the numbers prediction - DB acts like he can't remember the trick properly - 7:48 "3 or 4 of you wrote down the numbers..." 7:55 "Has anybody got the total?" It was 3 people who wrote down the numbers and the 4th person added them up.

Once he has been handed the scroll - which he places up his right sleeve during the edit - he now has to place it inside the box. Fast forward to 1:45 - he places his right hand inside the box. The jar containing the scroll has a fake bottom - making it easy to insert. Note how at 1:49-1:59 his left hand covers the bottom of the jar to conceal the opening. Since the scroll was writen during the show, all the "predictions" are correct.

First, I have to say that I think Derren is great. Some of his stuff is amazing. But these two last tricks I think I've figured out.

The "Roll of Predictions": Note there is an edit around 0:45. This was to allow DB to leave the stage for a moment or be handed some water etc...SOMETHING to allow him contact with one of his helpers.

It is at this point that he is handed the scroll. It has been prepared throughout the show backstage...the last "prediction" being the girl who is "3 off".

If you read his book "Pure effect" (its only $600.00 on amazon) you will see how he does it all. Its mostly magic and showmanship. The "psychological" effects are not the main part of the act and are mostly used on the spectators like us. I don't want to give away too much but, even the BMX bike and Chess explanation by Brown is not the whole truth. The explanation is part of the trick. Just remember, Derren is cheeky liar ! But thats why we love him.

Yes this is why I enjoy him so much as well, and as I said there is no one even NEAR him here in the states. His sarcasm, and humor just make the show sooo much more impressive, he is really funny. The only thing that irks me a bit about this particular performance is the odd microphone he is wearing, and the wire running down his back. But I'm 99% sure he doesn't have anyone feeding him information, he doesn't need it, he is such a powerful practioner of hypnosis and nlp,and mentalism.

The secret is in there you have to "find" it tho. The true lesson is EVERYTHING is BS. Just remember that. EVERYTHING. I know it may hurt in a couple of places when we finally remove the blindfold and wake up to the BS, then and only then can we see how all magic is preformed. This is true of all things in life.

I tried to get into Criss Angel but he bored me to tears. Blaine's dry personality sucks ass and is just a "hip hop" magician. It's the same tricks presented by someone who will appeal the "urban" group.

Brown on the other hand makes a mockery of the performers here in Canada and the US. There are many other skills he has attained that are put together in such a way that looks fluent.
