  • for a 2011 derby thrill, check out the video "derby_bapper"

  • hes a cool horse

  • Mine That Bird deserved to win. That last stretch was amazing.

  • Gotch, fluke horses or one trick ponies aren't capable of going that far. They usually burn out before the 3 furlong pole.

  • Mine that bird is great example of arabian breed mix Love that horse

  • i saw the race haha :D !

  • I've been reading pittpeas crap for MONTHS now, and have'nt copyied and pasted a damn thing! And I'm still here. So much for your silly crap.

  • I thought the same thing after the derby, but he showed a lot of class and talent in in the Preakness and Belmont.

  • aww im glade that mine the bird won

  • Not very many geldings win in the KY Derby. The last was Funny Cide in 03 and not sure of who else before?

  • Ashado19,Clyde Van Dusen won the Derby in 1929. A gelded son of Man' O War. Funny Cide was the first to do it since 1929.

  • tenaciousTY - many names are combined from the bloodlines of the horse. Mine that Bird is out of Mineshaft and Birdsong, I think. Pioneer OTN has a background in Egypt, etc.

  • ahhh, gotcha...thank you for straightening that out for me and not being a bitch about it =P

  • Hes one amazing horse

  • Then he would have been considered a "pony" because of his height.

  • 18-20 hands.... whoa. most of these horses are no bigger then 17 hh, with some very fast powerful thoroughbreds standing around 15.2. Of the 30 that I ride, one might be 16.3, and she is the tallest.

  • Thoroughbreds' official height will show that they generally range from 15hh and up... not a Quarterhorse at all. Look at the Biscuit, he wasn't any bigger than 15 hands.

  • thats not true i saw a purebred thoroughbred and he was only 13.2 and he was an adult.

  • Why do the horses always have such retarded names? Why not name it Bill or Steve?

  • Because that's how there registered in the Jockey Club System. There's certain rules the owners have to follow.

  • haha, that was quick

  • umm sure

  • WTF? your a fucking sick ass freak. No horseback riding is my passion. So shut your mouth. Sick ass weirdo

  • hahahahahah, well im glad you have a passion for horses

  • sure

  • alrightttt : )

  • Mine That Bird IS NOT a quarterhorse. Look at his pedigree please!!! He may look it but is not

  • I would have to disagree. In order to be entered in this race all horses must be a purebred thoroughbred, and this is traced down through their family tree. Not all thoroughbreds tall and muscular, he just so happened to be small and lean.

  • You're right, but, he's the SIZE of a quarter horse. 15 hands is tiny compared to the 18-20 hand horses he's up against.

  • Maybe 1 or 2 hands shorter, but certainly not 5. Do you even know what the measurement of a "hand" is?

  • if this was the second biggest upset in the KD what / when was the biggest upset

  • im friends with the owner mark allen

  • As usual, exciting and heart-wrenching, I have been watching the Derby since I was 13..When Secretariat won..I am so glad for the owners and the jockey..What a wonderful feat for this colt.

  • Yes. But he is a GELDING! Even more impressive!

  • i agree! :D Also for example in the olympics for dressage Anky van grunsven one twice with her gelding Salinero IPS. This really does proove that mares, stallions and geldings are all three truely amazing! :D

  • Why would him being a gelding make it more impressive?

  • Ohhh okay. I see.

  • so..are jockeys like midgets or what?

  • heavy jockeys don't do well. think about it.

  • i picked General Quarters, hubby picked Atomic Ray&my daughter picked Mine that Bird(she thought about changing her pick but didn't).It was a great race & we were not disappointed.

  • wow -- congratz ... amazing story for an amazing horse.

  • so tired of hearing that the horse was juiced and the race was fixed.

  • I second that ....

  • Look what his daddy did in 2004. Not as big a surprise if you factor that in

  • The jockey is that was riding mine that bird used to live about a mile from me before he started racing in big races.

    Congratulations!!

  • This was the most beautiful "Cinderella story" of sports! My congratulations to Mine That Bird and jocky Calvin Borel. I watched that race and bought happy tears to my eyes especially when they interviewd Calvin at the end. Great teamwork between hourse and rider! Again Congratualtions!!!

  • Bird? I've had my fill of that damn word this week thank you very much

  • mine that bird? what kind of name is that

  • A Thoroughbred racehorse name. They have the oddest names sometimes. There's cheap claimers sometimes called "Too Cool ForYou" and stuff liek that, and then you just laugh when they come in last. Mine That Bird isn't as odd as some names are.

  • told my mom to bet this horse no one listens to me I just liked him because he was number 8 my lucky number and ended up being and 50-1 shOOOT :X

  • Considering all the cameras there, did anyone get a shot of Jerry Jones the moment he got the call that a tornado/high wind storm collapsed a 100yrd+ tent on half his football team.

  • Damnit I had all my money on Cut That Meat.
