  • OmG!!!!!!!!!!! lovely voice and expression as always <3

  • Rene is a true Diva!!!

Love a dark rich voice..the composer would have been thrilled by this rendition..true to the meaning in this sad aria..this is the way one should say this aria..you must fell the reality of the words and their exact meaning..all other soprano's seem to fail this aria

  • Ms. Fleming sang with more emotion in this version in 2008 than she did in 2011 at Millennium Park. Each rendering is different by a singer, each time a song or aria is sung; listen to the difference here: "Renee Fleming with Stars of the Lyric Opera of Chicago at Millenium Park" For Miss Evancho's fans, here is her latest rendering when visiting Japan: "Jackie Evancho-O Mio Babbino Caro-JTV-January 2012"

  • Ay güey esta interpretación me puso la piel CHINITA!!!

  • luv the way she hold the long note at the end of the piece!!

  • wooooooooow i wish i could sing like this!

  • I am not a huge Renee Fleming fan, but this was done wonderfully. She has the perfect voice, emotion, and passion for this song!

  • too all the moronic Jackie Evancho fans: THIS here is Renee Fleming,a REAL opera singer and this is how a real aria should be sung, by someone who is of the right age and voice

  • Give a thumbs down to all comments about dislikes.

  • why doesnt this vid have over at least a million views...srsly people cant you hear the beauty of this song???

  • @RemonSupaida Classical music videos in general have very few views. There are many great performances here from opera singers both past and present that get under a 1000 views. Same with instrumental music and with ballet videos. People just don't know opera. Number of views on you tube is completely meaningless.

  • She takes the prize! No-one sings this better!

  • Absolutely LOVE this woman-what a legend!!! This song is stunning and she sings it with the most heartfelt passion

  • This is really a comic opera and the girl is trying to play with her father's feelings in order to convince him to help her boyfriend to obtain his inheritance... So there is no drama at all in this aria, only "playing drama" within a comedy. That understood, Fleming's delivery of this aria is completely out of character but she is not playing Lauretta: she only renders one of the most emotional, moving and beautiful interpretations of this magnificent aria I've ever heard.

    BRAVO!!! .

  • one of my favorites =]

  • just sublime. don't care what anybody else says. beautiful beautiful tone. beautiful line. and while this is controversial in this aria, beautiful tempo as well. La Fleming in this period of time was just superior to everybody else. still is.

  • Gives me goosebumps

  • Oh.... what talent! I am so glad I found this recording! Heart-felt and passionate, it is what it should be! Opera is about LIFE! It is about LIVING! This is what I want more of in my life! Thank you, Renée!

  • astoundingly beautiful ending only to have the beautiful moment ruined by the jackass in the audience that couldn't wait 5 more seconds to clear his throat.

  • I play this aria on the piano and the chords are very beautiful and mysterious sounding , Puccini the genius!!!!!

  • Siiiighhhh. I think she sings this aria beautifully. But, it would be better, if she did it topless. ( . )Y( . )

  • Folks... the heavy breathing is intentional. Even Callas, who owns this aria, did it. The character is an exasperated teenager begging her father. One or two teenage girls have been known to do that sort of thing.

  • 73 think Evancho can sing haha =D Renee RULES!!!!

  • @HeidelbergSoprano Jackie can sing and I heard Renee wants to work with her.

  • I play this aria on the piano!

  • I play this aria on the piano and enjoy it immensely ! Puccini is truly a genius ! This aria is gorgeous !

  • did her voice crack at 2:00 or is that just me?

  • wow I love this pace.....it works so well

  • 73 people listening Justin Bieber.

  • I LOVE the dramatism she brings... it colors and highlights the aria wonderfully. You know that in the end she's talking about struggling and being tormented and wanting to die, don't you, guys?? I mean, really. You can't pick a more dramatic song than this. It HAS to be sung in that manner.

  • @shrinerspark I agree with you. I think she sings it well, especially the end of this aria. Okay , it is not a happy aria, its dramatic aria, but It is for lyrical soprano. btw. I like it and she sings it very well.

  • @bpetii1 Why would this be a dramatic aria? It comes from a comic opera, it's sung by a teenage girl not a dramatic tragic heroine. Depending on the interpretation it's either a heartfelt plea of a teenager in love (who wants the boy but doesn't really care that what she is asking is for the father to commit a fraud) or a brat who is manipulating her father and has no intention of throwing herself into a river. What is so dramatic about i?

  • shes too dramatic for this aria...but she did take the last A nice! thats about it.

  • @operafreak100 its a dramatic aria lol shes suppose to be dramatic lol

  • @immature0916 Read the plot of Gianni Schicchi, then say it is a dramatic aria.

  • @immature0916 This is an aria from a comic opera. The heroine who sings is is a teenager who is trying to convince her father to help the boy's parents steal the inheritance. How is it dramatic? She has no intention of throwing herself into the river, she is just trying to convince her father.

  • @jewelmarkess But in that, it IS dramatic, because she is her father's intellectual equal, and she knows that he is very adept, so she is trying to do her very best to convince him, by being dramatically convincing.

  • not bad...but not super

  • No. But 67 peoples heard how Maria Callas and Montserrat Caballe sing this aria.

  • I agree that the breathing is distracting, but then her voice...it just pulls you in. I also wonder if she was doing it on purpose. I've seen her do the same when she sings violetta. Not my favorite flavor of La Fleming, but honestly, after her Manon, this woman can do no wrong (to me). lol

  • To all the people talking about her heavy breathing: I think it's just in the expression of the song. If you look up the meaning of this Aria, you'll understand what I'm getting at. While I do agree that it's a bit much, it DOES bring a lot more emotion to the piece.

  • @AvidMusiQBukworm I'm sorry, but opera singers shouldn't be audibly gulpinhg for air, even for emotional effect.

  • @pucciniverdi777 I agree, but I don't think that she's inhaling so audibly for emotional effect, it's more likely that she's simply not a strong enough singer and has to compensate for a weak diaphragm by doing this.

  • ¡Qué voz!. Esta mujer tiene un vozarrón.

    Simplemente espectacular.

  • Stunning

  • Hey there!

    I'm a 14-year-old girl and I have a dream:

No, I don't want to be a famous singer yet, but

I want to share my music with you and maybe I can inspire some people.

Maybe there are some other piano players and singers out there who have the same dream as me.

They play and sing with passion and with heart, the same as I do. And they want to inspire other people and give a little love to them :)

Or they want to get inspired.

Anyways, I would be so happy if someone would listen to my music

  • GTA 3

  • She is one of the top three alive today singing.

  • I adore renee, she is by far the best vocalist female in the world! Nobody compares to her..end of subject

  • This is all very interesting. Jackie is just a kid...doesn't have great technique,

can't sing as powerfully as seasoned pros like Rene, and may never be able to sing an aria like this one. And yet, she's already sung this aria...and in the opinion of "many" much more beautifully that most. Just goes to show, we all have a different idea of what beauty is.

  • She is using to much straight tone in this aria.

  • @dessi8100 I hope you are being sarcastic...

  • What a beautiful aria as sung by this soprano. It is nice to hear a really mature full voice sing thand still be youthfully convinicing in the role. Her breathing is immaculate and those notes, she just seems to pull them from place deep inside. This is so moving a performance by Renee Flemming. What a wonderful singer, truly a great singer. Thanks for the post.

  • @heavensjewels1 How CAN you say her breathing is immaculate? I have never heard such loud gasps by a professional singer before... She has a glorious voice but her technique is not quite perfect.

  • @Woelfin001 Iagree.

  • 67 peoples doest know anything about this delicate aria. STUPIDS

  • @NachoxChile90 Now there are 72 of them

  • That is correct singers such as Deanna Durbin, Sarah Brightman and even Aretha Franklin performed "Nessum Dorma. Hypothetically speaking

"if" Jackie decides to become a opera singer, she has the intellect to acquire the vocal technique to do so. She could start training at Julliard at age 14 and age 19 maybe audition @ the NY Met. Today she is a Classical Crossover Artist. By the way are there any Karaoke singers that match Jackie's talent at 11 , if so have them upload it on YouTube! (LOL)

  • I love her big turd voice !

  • Hello I am 13 and have listened and listened to Renee singing this beautiful song and I have attempted it !!!! Please take a look ive put link above, I know i have loads of work to do but its a start. I hope you all enjoy.

  • My favorite ! All, the song and the singer ...

  • My favorite !

  • I admire Ms. Fleming for always seeming to be at ease within her performance; her voice rises up out of her seemingly effortlessly, although that can't be the case. She was born to sign this.

  • this is simply stunning.

  • The only thing Jackie Evancho has on Renee Fleming is that Jackie sounds better, Fleming has better technique though.

  • @richardoky WHAT?!?!?! Jackie has nothing on Renee. Jackie is not an opera singer. She is a person who sings arias. Totally different. Renee is who you watch if you want a truly fantastic performance.

  • @animepopstar101

You could make a list and Renee would win hands down against Jackie, Technique, volume, just about every category but to the average listener I would dare to say they would think Jackie's has a better voice. No she couldn't sing in a opera but that is such a small percent of the people who purchase music.

  • @richardoky Oh well that's fine then :) Sorry I overreacted. I was in a bad mood :-/ You do have a good and correct point. Sorry once again :D

  • Really? Jackie fans??? There is NO comparison between Renee and Jackie (?). Pleeazzee.....are you serious?????

  • @brideamar YES

  • @billphilpott Well then Bill, your code name is appropriate you are definately "philled with pot"

  • For better or worse it is a great honor for Little Jackie to be compared with Renee Fleming Looks like they are both very good and remember Jackie is a classical singer not opera.

  • @billphilpott

Then she shouldn't attempt to sing opera arias.

  • @vivsters96 Actually she is very successful with opera songs. This being a free country she can sing anything she wants to.

  • Jackie has never called herself an opera singer and she has never compared herself to any of the great singers. She is who she is at this particular point in time; a very talented young lady. We who enjoy her singing and her lively personality are aware that while the talent may still be raw she does amazing things with it considering she has had no formal training. Her mother has said that she needs training but not till after puberty. During the wait I intend to enjoy what she can do now.

  • this was at misic memory copetition 2011

  • @poptropica12165 ya thats why it was uploaded in 2008.

  • Renee is one of my favorites ever along with Montserrat !

  • Before you compare an 11 year old girl to the likes of a poised and talented, let alone experienced opera singer, maybe you all should give her a chance to excel and grow into her choice of genre. Come on, why even waste the time! Personally I perfer Anna Netrebko, but that is a personal choice, there is no one that is perfect in every aspect of pronunciation, delivery, structure, Renee is certainly a wonderful operatic singer, and what a great performer!

  • omg... she really feels what she is singing ◕‿‿◕

  • why i can't watch it?

  • I'm not a music or opera major, but I can hear depth and annunciation in Renee's singing compared to Evancho. This is beautiful. What AGT and Evancho do do well, is get people (like myself) listening and being exposed to an art of singing that is not popular. I'm no Jackie fan. Came here via an excellent article and discussion.

  • Her voice is very heavy. I love that

  • She is lucky that both of her parents were singing teachers and she has the physical assets to sing that powerfully. Fantastic singing and presentation.

  • Renee is one of my all time favorite sopranos. Also like Eileen Farell, Edita Gruberova, Joan Sutherland, Lucia Popp, Beverly Sills and Kiri Te Kanawa.

  • Nobody"s racking on Jackis skill at such age, it the people who go crazy over her and act like it the best opera anybody's ever heard it is just ridiculous. Renee Flemming proves that.

  • Nobody"s racking on Jackis skill at such age, it the people who go crazy over her and act like it the best opera anybody's ever heard it is just ridiculous. Renee Flemming proves that.

  • @sweetapples97 I think opera officianados or rather opera enthusiasts don't understand where the general public is coming from when they are head over heels in love with Jackie Evancho...Its not about opera...its about the most beautiful voice ever heard on anyone let alone a 11 year old... That's the fever about Jackie and her amazing voice. The general public really doesn't care about opera (unfortunately ... though I do), but just what is so pleasing to the eye and so wonderful for the soul.

  • Renee is among the very best. Don't delude yourselves into thinking otherwise.

  • IN ANSWER TO THEM WHO SAID THAT JACKIE EVANCHO INSULTS ARTISTS LIKE RENEE ARE WRONG. FIRST BECAUSE SHE HAS ONLY 10 YEARS AND SHE DID IT VERY WELL. I WANT TO SEE HOW MUCH OF YOU CAN SING IN THAT WAY. AND IF YOU HAVE KNOWLEDGE ABOUT CLASSICAL SING, THE INALATION HAS TO BE IMPERCEPTIBLE, WITH NOT NOISE LIKE DO RENEE IN SOME PARTS OF SINGING. THAT MEANS THAT SHE DOSN'T INHALE VERY WELL, BECAUSE SHE LEFT WITH NO AIR.. IM NOT PERFECT BUT I HATE PEOPLE WHO TALK ABOUT THINGS THAT THEY DIDNT KNOW!

  • @Manunightwish OMG ....SERIOUSLY?! ... wow ...

  • @Manunightwish Like you? You do realize that Jackie hasn't perfected pacing her breathe, can't bellow half as well as this, slurs when she sings and sometimes even mispronounces them? Of course you didnt, but ITS FINE since she's ten. The point people are trying to make is that saying Jackie, who has not spent years upon years perfecting everything, is better than real opera singers like Renee is just ignorant. She has a lot of raw talent and in the future with practice she could surpass so many

  • @SelestynaArpa364 Amen to that! Or any other singing show on TV. I personally am a professionally trained opera singer and think those shows are bogus! While I respect others opinions, Opera is what I consider true music. It takes great control and technique to sing opera its just astonishing! And MOST people don't realize that or respect the fact that opera is a beautiful form of art. In fact most people laugh or make fun of the fact that I am an opera singer...even before they hear me sing!

  • Thank you Renee :)

  • Loved it very emotional...I like the drama.

  • ANGELA GHIORGHIU, the best of all !!!

  • So beautiful. SO beautiful.

  • I love Renée. The best.

  • Jackie Evancho is just a kid still. Who knows if her voice will keep when she is a woman?

  • this is magnificent.

  • Merveilleux!

  • Fleming does this quite well, but no amount of training and musical skill can give a voice the natural beauty of tone that Anna Netrebko's voice has.

  • @davehshs how could you possibly think that Netrebko's performance was better than Renee's? Netrebko viciously attacks every note in this aria and her diction is just god awful. Have some better taste. Please.

  • @hsif1029384756 Sorry, I simply can't hear the 'vicious attack' on each note that you're positing. And not being an Italian speaker, I don't notice the poor diction, but good diction has little bearing on beauty of sound. And I didn't say Netrebko's 'performance' is better. Her VOICE is better. If the singers were violinists, Netrebko would be playing a Stradivarius and Fleming a lesser-quality instrument. Of course, singers, unlike violinists, are stuck with the instrument they were born with.

  • @davehshs it's hard to really know who has the superior instrument because netrebko manipulates it so much and is not always on tune, so that gets in the way of really getting to know her instrument. renee is a magnificent technician with a beautiful instrument. in my opinion, netrebko is the opposite of ms. fleming.

  • @davehshs That is not true. The problem is people stop training as soon as they are good enough to make a living. There isn't anyone singing today who couldn't sing better with some good lessons...

  • @MrJoeh1234 I'm sure you're right that any singer would benefit from more good lessons. Apparently, no sopranos around have had enough lessons to give their voices the beauty of tone of Netrebko's. Her beautiful tone is either somewhat natural or she has had more lessons than any other soprano around. Which do YOU think it is?

  • @davehshs First, calling her the "best" is entirely your opinion. At the level of the "candidates" differences are entirely subjective and arguing who is the best is patently absurd- there is only who YOU like best. Since I don't know what it is about Netrebko's voice that you particularly like I can only guess as to why you do. Given that you have no technical training I would lean towards you liking the natural colors of her voice rather than anything to do with her technical expertise.

  • @MrJoeh1234 You're right, of course, that it is my opinion. And I thought I made it clear that her technical expertise (or lack thereof) had nothing to do with my preference for the rich sound of her voice. Preference for a particular sound is ultimately subjective, even when you compare two singers with equal technical skills. As to my own lack of technical training, one doesn't have to be a trained violinist to recognize the difference in sound between a Stradivarius and a lesser violin.

  • Puccini is was at the best of times already the most indulgent of composers, so this drawn-out interpretation makes it unlistenable to my ears. I do like Renee Fleming, but I'd forget this and click on the superb version Maria Callas posted by Genic in the righthand column.

  • She tried to reach a musical note but could not. Tune in the first seconds.

Why not start all over again.

  • Ms Fleming sings with such passion. Time and time again I find myself in tears when I listen to her. Exquisite! By FAR my favourite opera singer.

  • i love this song and she sings it better - renee and kathleen sing this song's butt off. but renee has the "renee scoop" that is wrong for classical arias that she cant get away from. but i aint hatin on her lolol

  • Exquisite. I am such a fan of her work. Classical, Lord of the Rings, modern. She is simply exquisite...transcendental.

  • Ms Fleming does a beautiful job. As a student, I have listen several times. Excellent and a Blessing.

  • Soooo awesome.

  • gosh brings tears to my eyes

  • :o was not expecting such a rich soprano voice to come out of that woman

  • i was tearing up through this entire aria. oh my lord. soooo gorgeous.

  • HEARTBREAKING!!!

  • Ms Evancho IS ONLY 11 or 12 remember...lots of time to work on the technique thing!!!!! There's so much ill-informed snobbery on these threads. I bet Ms Fleming herself would concur.

  • Great ,great, great song ! The beauty of her voice is breathtaking! I wish I could sing

    like that!

  • THE BEST of all stars.

  • THE BEST of all stars

  • Hun har jo bare en fantastisk stemme og hvilken pust...

  • Hello everyone! If you are studying this aria I have an accompaniment and a diction video done by a professional company for study on my channel here on youtube. I hope you will take full advantage of it! =) Cheers!

  • Oh my God! Someone sings this aria with attention to the text and genuine feeling and understanding!

  • Best advice to anyone who wants to sing well, don't go for American Idol.

  • @SelestynaArpa364 LOL. Fleming cited American Idol in her LOC press conference this week as showing that singing is popular - while calling herself a "gleek." Funny.

  • @toobusywriting lol! My sis loves Renee Flemming and is also a gleek. 8D I hope some day they will sing on the same stage together...

  • Oh, my goodness. I don't know what it was, but wow...Her interpretation...it just left me so emotional. It helps to know what this song is about (duh). But, wow! Brava!

  • @sopranoluna Oh my beloved daddy I love him he's so hansom I would go to Porta Rossa To buy the ring Yes, yes, I love him And if my love was in vain I would go to the old bridge And throw myself in the Arno I Fret and suffer torments Oh god, I'd rather die Daddy have pity, have pity Daddy have pity, have pity
  • @lepidodendron grazie. :)

  • @lepidodendron Grazie! ^^

  • Oh, my goodness. I don't know what it was, but wow...

  • She is fabulous!

  • MI SONO VENUTI I BRIVIDI

  • @jwellin33 lol you're right it means "cough very silent here"

  • Just wonderful.

  • Beautiful!

  • The Louise Blouin Foundation is thrilled to offer a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet Renée Fleming at her final dress rehearsal for Strauss’s Capriccio at the Metropolitan Opera in New York this March. The proceeds of this online auction will support the Art+Hope initiative.

  • Sir(s): Outstanding in All Respects. Thank you, Madame. Et Merci beaucoups. Have a Nice Day. Godspeed. --JAMES HOWARD DAY (JR.), SATX 78202 U. S. A.

  • Wonderful!

  • Beautiful voice, yes, but she's singing this all wrong

  • @poisonandantidote all wrong? I don't care for the way she sings anything, but specifically what do you mean? You want the tempo faster, slower, or other?

  • What is the heavy breathing all about? Is she supposedly crying?

  • most of the versions of babbino are fine but i think Sissel's version, her voice, her everything is the best. check her out.

  • Stupenda La Diva Joan et Rene. Il Due Stupendas Divas Grande. Vive Il Due!

  • absolutly awful for her class. compare muuuuuch better versions te kanawa, georghiu. very often only noise instead of clear singing.

  • Aimee Elizabeth on Australias Got Talent does this so well If you like this you got to see Aimee... Just type her name to see on youtube... Find her on facebook... Enjoy...

  • She looks like an adult version of Jackie Evancho! Jackie sounds pretty darn good for being only 10, so I imagine she will sound something like Miss Fleming here when she's all grown up.

  • There is just one word to describe this ........ AWESOME!!!!!!

  • Звук очень хороший! Но некоторые гласные сильно вылезают.

  • YOU can prefer whoever you want. But, I have seen her sing this aria live and she just blows your doors off. Say what you will you wannabes, but this singer is divine in a class ALL BY HERSELF!!

  • Please listen to Mirella Freni's version. She owns this song. No one can sing it better than Ms. Freni. The one of very few magnificent classic sopranos in the last 2 centuries.

  • @jwellin33 I wasnt paying attention to that until your ruined it for me :P ... :)

  • I've heard Renee in concert and her singing will make you you feel like you are in a different universe. Powerful voice with unbelievable control. Other sopranos sound a little thinner to me. Most sopranos are "milk chocolate" whereas Renee is definitely "dark chocolate".

  • I listened to Gheorghiu's version; it's vocally powerful but lacks the finesse and control of Fleming's,particularly the diminuendos on the high notes. But both are beautiful.

  • @pleyel- Amen to that. It does not have one tenth the emotional depth or enormous strength of tone that Fleming's version does. There is no comparison between the two.

  • Renee Fleming seems to be a "love it or hate it" singer. Personally, I love her. She's very different from other sopranos. I would describe her as a singer that has all the elegance and power of a soprano, but has the resonance and richness of a mezzo/contralto which is what I love about her.

  • I'm no professional ---but LOVE her voice and the way she sings. I am saving this to my favorites and will enjoy---over and over!!! Would love to hear in person. Thanks for posting!!

  • As usual, Renee Fleming gives me goose bumps!

  • I don't like her version that much. I have heard better

  • she pisses me off

  • i invite you to watch to Jackie Evancho ( a ten years old girl) performing this song, she will be one of the most amazing opera singers in the world.

You can watch her performance in america's got talent 2010

  • @Meteorix25 Jackie's version is classical crossover which is very much different that Opera. Opera the voice is connected and female singers must know when to close the cords. Crossover singers are more floaty and heady with the cords remaining open.. This is not the way your typical Opera singer sings..

  • @Meteorix25 Jackeie Evancho is talented, but she lacks the technique required of this aria. She is a crossover artist and nothing more, which is more than appropriate considering her age. But frankly I find any comparison relating an opera singer of Renee Fleming's talent and intellect to a crossover artist, extremely insulting. A true opera singer of this caliber has dedicated their life to this craft, with years of intense vocal training.

  • @JordanSean Thank you for the reminder that amateurs ( no matter how cute and how poised) cannot be compared to professional opera singers, who have the technique, control, phrasing, proper pronunciation and other important factors, due to years of training and practice. Everyone wants to be an instant star/millionaire today. I'm not a Sarah Brightman fan, but she gave Jackie great advice to get the necessary training and not ruin her voice by overuse without it. She is learning languages &

  • @JordanSean Not to mention that it's a bit creepy to listen to a little kid singing about how she's going to kill herself over some guy...

  • @JordanSean ; Chut up ignorant sac. First respect people who are professional and not a scam like you.

  • @JordanSean Jackie is an operatic prodigy and i predict will rise to the greatest in history ask Renee and David Foster.
