idk how each state handles criminals but i do know that in CA you only get 3 chances before a life sentence. so #1 could be when you are young and stupid but over 18. #2 could be serious. and you might get your life on track but since you now have 2 strikes if you get into any trouble you get life.

The American 'justice' system is set up against minorities and anyone without money. The harsh punishments for minor drug offenses (I'm mostly talking about marijuana) are unnecessary. While jails are called 'correctional facilities' but there is no rehabilitation. Think about it, if you're poor and need a roof over your head, three meals a day and all the man ass you can handle I can see why so many brothers become institutionalized.

Because the US has a horrible social divide between the types of people we always see on TV living the amazing American Life that everyone seems to want and the types of people who live in shitholes where a lot of them have turned to drug trade, theft and gangs for money. That is how the US has one of the worst crime rates on the planet but also manages to be rich. The same kinda goes for the UK and France.

It's the reason why if I was ever to leave London I'd go to Canada or Australia.

@picorettte Have you seen the film District 13? It's all in French but It's a very good action film set in a shut off, poverty and crime struck district of Paris. It's a bit of an exaggeration but it really does display what France is like. Most big cities have a total divide between the areas tourists flock to every year and a jungle of concrete where violence occurs frequently. France is very socially divided.
