Hydra is one of the few games i got addicted to one the Lynx, but at the same time its almost impossible to drive! You never know the distance to objects, or how much you should turn to avoid them..
You definitely want to get the likes of Roadblasters, (Road Rash on 4 wheels basically) and Blue Lightning (A brilliant After Burner clone). Both of those are brilliant. I also recommend Ms Pacman as well as that is an excellent port
You'll love Chips Challenge as well, in my view that is the best and most addictive game on the Lynx.
also make sure you chekc out Blue Lightning and electrocop, my 2 faves when i was a kid.... think i'm going to have to dig out my old lynx some time soon
Atari Lynx and Game Gear have 2 things in common, they were both superior to the game boy because they were both in color and the game boy wasn't. But the lynx and game gear shared 1 flaw, they devour 6 AA batteries in a short amount of time
If you like your 3D games look out for Blue Lightning. It's a bit like a flight sim sort of game where you have fly your plane and take out targets. I think that one will be up your street! :-)
I still have my Lynx in my wardrobe. I played chrystal mines 2 upto around level 150 and wrote down all the level codes as I went. I have them written down in a notebook somewhere. It showed no sign of ever ending. Does anyone know exactly how many levels the game has?
Hydra sounds really cool! Hydro Thunder is my favorite arcade game, I didn't care for the Dreamcast version, but Hydro Thunder Hurricane was amazing, one of my favorite XBLA titles
Great video Pete, I'm surprised you didn't already have a Lynx in your collection. 2 games I definitely recommend getting is Blue Lightning & Warbirds.
Play Chips Challenge it's really fun I played the Windows 95 port that came with the Microsoft Best of Windows Entertainment Package and i had a blast but ive herd that the amiga and lynx version are better because they have much more animation. Once you play chips challenge you will be hooked it's an addictive puzzle/maze game.
yo petedorr, i actually have the same hobby as you, and i was like ya i have a lot of video games then i saw your room and i waz like O_0 but ya i only have a nes w/ 4 games, n64 w/ 5 games, a gc w/ 4 games, an xbox w/ 19 games, an xbox 360 w/ 18 games, a wii w/ 7 games and a ps3 w/ 10 games i just wanted to tell you mine BUT ITS PATHETIC COMPARED TO YOURS ill try to work on it lol
Another +1 for Chips Challenge. Used to have this on the Atari ST and have played the the Lynx version also. I always remember the level consisting entirely of conveyor belts.
I wanted this so bad back then but the gameboy had way more games (not all great) but the Lynx has left it's mark in the handheld market when it came to some really good games. Like the GameBoy the Lynx also had some ghosting / scrolling issues on some titles.
P.S. When you go head-on with another enemy on Joust you bounce off them not lose the life, if you are facing away from them at the same height with your back to them that will kill you.
The best games for the Lynx are 1) the early Epyx titles, and 2) the Atari Games coin-op conversions. Ninja Gaiden was also quite good, a little slow, but very tough. I'd say Todd's Adventures in Slime World and Blue Lightning are the Lynx's best games.
Chip's Challenge!! From what I remember it's a simple yet challenging puzzle game. To be honest, it's been years since I played it and puzzle games tend to frustrate me the most... still, I would take the gamble and open it up and try it out.
Ah some Lynx love my first handheld as a child and truly ahead of its time console , gates of zendocon, Chip Challenge and Cali Games being favorites for me.. Only 4 more and i am there with the full collection.... great to see some Lynx affection :)
WOW. Just over $100 for a boxed system and 21 complete, sealed games? That's pretty unbelievable! Great stuff, Pete.
A very impressive looking system. The quality of the graphics are quite stunning! And to think that this came out in 1989?!? Xybots especially looked awesome. The graphics looked on par with a PS1 game. Steel Talons reminded me a bit of Pilot Wings on the SNES, but with a nice graphical update.
Congrats on the new system, Pete. I'm glad you're enjoying it, man! :)
I've always wondered, where does pete sleep with all those games, does he sleep on the couch. Maybe in the future he'll sleep on the couch when his collection becomes over 9000! games
They actually tried to sell in the Lynx to Nintendo, they got a meeting with Miyamoto. But the sales pitch was "too american" so they flopped and insulted the host instead. Plus they were shown the newest, unreleased system by Nintendo, The Gameboy. And all their dreams were crushed then and there. Even though Lynx had a colour LCD, the battery time was vastly longer on gameboy, plus alot smaller. Nintendo didn't want it, so they pedalled it themselves. Not a great success..
Nice one Pete. I have almost every Lynx title. Slime World is a must and Scrap Yard Dog is good. Chips Challenge is very addictive too! Gauntlet 3 is an interesting game to play. It plays verticle... nice to see the Lynx love!
I never had one of these when it came out but it was definitely something that I wanted. The high price and incredibly low battery time stopped me from going ahead and getting one. It looks like something that would make an interesting feature in any retro collection and its reasonably priced too.
I agree that the mark II is much nicer looking than the original. I normally like the original versions of most consoles but this is definitely something that benefitted from a remodelling.
Pete do you play many indie games on the PC, a lot of them remind of SNES games as they often have a simple but unique idea and feel to them. Great ones would be, Super Meat Boy, Cave Story, Nimbus, Aquaria, Bit.Trip, VVVVVV, NightSky and many more. :)
Great system i had one years ago, and got another one, your deal was incredible for new sealed games, some great arcade conversions, and original games.
Todd's Adventure in Slime World - Best game on the system IMO. Adventure game with multiple game modes. Multiplayer is a whole other game entirely. Super addicting and fun with friends.
Warbirds - Biplane simulator. Multiplayer is really fun.
Zarlor Mercenary - Best Shmup on the system.
The Gates of Zendocon - Decent Shmup.
Electrocop - Great adventure game. Similar to Xenophobe.
Nice how they had lefty flip on the handheld but being a lefty myself have never seen the point of it since we all use left sided d pads.
CHIPS CHALLENGE: was an amazing game and was one of the featured games on windows 95 pc's. I'd always play it in school and when I got home. Definitely one to open.
Oh, and I had Toki on the Mega Drive and loved it, used to play that game more than anything else back then. Hard but once you get used to where everything is it all comes together. Underrated little platform shooter.
I remember playing this concole alot around 89/90, Todd In Smile World was one that I loved back then but probably would see the flaws in now. Nice haul Pete, some good stuff there.
Hey Pete if you like Shadow of the Beast make sure you play it for the Amiga versions if you ever get a chance. Easily the best versions of those games, such amazing music. Plus the exclusive and best game in the series in my opinions, Shadow of the beast 3.
@250cosmic Never played that version, but what a system eh? I loved Turrican and the Last Ninja series off the top of my head. Oh yeah and Speedball :)

I have own a Lynx II since launch, my Gauntlet card is missing (still have the box - lol), so out of the games that I have now, my favourites would be Toki and Joust.
Pete, If you like Battle Wheels check out Cyber Virus. it uses a similar graphics engine with an all new game. This is made by Songbird-productions com . Its run by Carl Forhan. Nice guy out in Rochester Minnesota.
Pete. I've been a lynx gamers since release-day. Out of the ones not opened.. I would open pinball jam, rampart, klax awesome-voice. Now you need to hunt down Gauntlet, Electrocop, Lemmings, Xenophobe, Dracula, Rygar, Ninja Gaiden 1, Gates of Zendocon, Slimeworld,.. There are a lot of good Lynx games but my favorite is XYBOTS and no other consoles has it that I know of. Also checkout ALPINE GAMES (Incredible smooth scaling) Battle zone 2000 also includes a hidden vector line BattleZone.
Awesome haul Pete.....I was a big Lynx fan back in the day. I still have my unit....although the screen is dying out. I only had a handful of games (but most games are so hard you only need a few) but my favorites were Warbirds, Cyberball, and Batman Returns....I am convinced the latter is impossible. I would say Warbirds is a must.....it starts off easy and gets progressively challenging.....and the graphics were better than Genesis......again....conrats
Hey Pete, this is the first time I got a look at the Atari Lynx. I didn't know anything about it until now. Awesome that you made a video introducing this system and its many games.
An actual STARGATE/PORTAL-THING was caught on film in New Mexico. The footage can be found within the short-film entitled "SUDDEN PORTHOLE", which is parked at the PROJECT CAMELOT YouTube page (it's under the George Noory video).
I'm not selling anything…I'm just trying to spread the word about the unseen-dimensions we find ourselves embedded in.
My BLOG @ samzurick*dot*com contains peripheral data regarding the movie and is where I reply to the "debunkers". THANKS!!
definitely open and play chips challenge! its one of lynx's best games!

THANKS!!
