I think Busby said he had magic in his feet, warmth in his heart and just as important ice in his veins...he was brave and rode hundreds of tackles that today would be fouls. Messi is often compared to Maradona...the real comparison is Best, both small men with the ball magically glued to their feet. The difference is George faced tackling Messi will never face.

@tigerarmyrule yeah messi and best are more similar to each other than maradona. Maradona was more a passer, with better vision and technique, but best and messi are probably more easy on the eye and natural when dribbling

dont forget best doesnt get to play on such smooth pitches like messi, id like to see how glued the ball is to messi's foot when hes playing on mud

overall though i think maradona is better because he had more accuracy in his technique than any other player

If all games had been recorded as they are now, a compilation of George Best from the sixties would, believe me go beyond anything you have ever seen. I was lucky to see him at Nottingham and old Trafford on several occasions and even when he didn t totally dominate the game you would see his brilliance.

The ideal was for him to be brilliant but your team won !

The air of expectation around the ground every time he recieved the ball was what i remember most. It was unique to him.

I have seen most of the best players of this and a previous generation, and you can throw a thousand names into a hat, and after watching George Best only a blind man would deny he has a uniquely god given talent that makes him the outstanding footballer of my lifetime, and he was doing 40 years ago things that players in the modern game are afraid to do, I love to be entertained as I watch and I liken Best to Jordan, in that they have a game within a game which makes them apparently unique...

No. Maradona is not different level to Best. Don't get me wrong. Maradona was wonderful but not superior to Best as a dribbler. No one was. Maradona was one footed he simply couldn't use his right to any real effect and this restricts his greatness.

Pele and Mar-a became known as best players, not by just winning their domestic leagues, but w. cups as well.. And here we have Best competing with them for the # 1 spot without playing in a w. cup! If you think George Best was just a "good" player, then you haven't seen enough of him play. If he'd been English and made it to the World Cup he would've been much higher in profile.
