nice vid !!! i have one question... (i'm a beginner so ;) )
you said that you can program the 16f88 with micro C but how can you connect that chip with the PC? :p because with the arduino you just need to replace the chip etc...
For the PIC the Mikroelectronika forum is excellent...and the free programming books on their site are great. They do basic, pascal, and C. They are great for learning from.
I have recently taken to ripping apart old stuff that doesnt work anymore to get motors etc out. I am trying to make use of what I can in them and im pretty sure there are a few microcontrollers in a phone and dvd player I took apart and I dont want to waste them coz they look pretty cool. might be a stupid question but is it possable to reprogram microcontrollers and use them for different things?
@gaypotter typically no. Those companies don't want you to have access to their code, so they make sure those chips are code protected, which usually means you can't get in at all, not even to reprogram
@tlfort what??!! I have heard about some of there stuff. The problem with them, motorola and the other big names, is that there just isn't a whole lot out there for support. I'll check that out though.... look for a video! haha
at my school we use only use PICs, the 16F877A, 18F4620, and the 18F4685 (just like the 18F4620 but with more program memory space). I ordered some 18F1320, and I like them a lot cause of their size (18 pins). I dont mind MPLAB (with the C18 compiler), i've been working with it for 2 years now :)
@arnXboxElite yea, the PIC isn't bad. My only real problem with MPLAB is configuring the PIC. MikroC allows you to just check boxes to select them, and there is no need for linker files
2 years and no dislikes! nice!

ATmel (arduino) does have an 8 pin chip. It's called an ATtiny.
