  • i really feel like i'm walking through a chinese village where everyone is wearing traditional chinese clothes. its summer time and i can smell the sunshine.

  • kinda modern! Love this piece

  • good job

  • this song just makes me so... just plain happy :)

  • This makes me want to go to China, get my orange chicken, and never come back to America

  • @bachopinmozart have to remind you there's no such thing as"orange chicken" in China... It is purely an Ameican style Chinese food

  • you play very very well

  • I find it really hard to place this song in any category. Kinda Asian, but not really. Kinda classical, but not really. Kinda gentle, but not really. Kinda slow, but not really. The only category I can safely put it into: Too short. Anything that awesome should not end after 2 minutes and 30 seconds.

  • @cutthroooat

i would put it under classical structure but chinese tune. i dunno, but i don't have any trouble categorising it.

    vladimir berezovski ,lang-lang

.and others. They are continuing great tradicion

of wladimir horowitz and arthur rubinstain.

    igor marich,koncert pianist

  • is this song easy?

  • nope, he just makes it look that way :)

It's not in a Western scale (i.e. not major or minor). Makes it difficult unless you're familiar with the key it's in.

  • i see cause i dont know why , this tune somehow repeats itself many times in my head when i doing things. =)

  • it's sort of pentatonic that gives it the "Chinese" feel, but not totally, so it seems a bit normal.... don't think that makes it difficult though

  • @coffemuse I think the harder part is just how fast and precise the piece has to be.

  • it's not so hard. I think that all is difficult since you have to work to master a piece.

It's not as hard as a Beethoven Piano sonata, but i'ts harder that For Elisa, for example.

  • yeah it is

  • Well at first glance, if you look at the sheet, it doesn't look too bad. But as you start to play it, you realize that unless you have the fluidity and speed and dexterity of the pros, it just doesn't sound right. The hard part is not learning the notes. The hard part is making it sound good.

  • on that note... the part from about 0:20 to 0:25 is damn near impossible to get the articulation right for me.

  • @andrew33323 So true....the song needs that delicate, bouncy, quickness to make it not sound like a "dead" sunflower. But all the speed and dexterity problems can be solved if you practice alot. After, Yundi Li may be a prodigy, but he is still a human, and if you practice enough, you can get close to his level, can't you?

  • @ItzThatAznJonny

    yes, one can! ^.^

i practiced it a lot of times.. ^^ i think after 2 month i could play it this fast.. *-*

it's so beautiful that i can play it again and again. xD the most songs a annoying with the time..

  • @greenily so do you think it's veery difficult to learn or is it not?

'cause I would really loooove to play it, but I don't know if I'm good enough at the Piano.

  • @andrew33323 It's a pretty good introduction to the chinese classical music though :) Most of their music is composed pretty much the same way.

  • @andrew33323 you have the sheets? can you send it to me? would be great! :)

  • Perfect Chinese pianist!

Maybe caucasians can live in China and experience the culture before learning this song.

  • Beautiful!!

  • great!!! i love it soooo much! i'll never be able to play it that well!

  • breathtaking

impossible not to listen to without smiling from ear to ear

  • ☺☻☺☻☺☻

  • Don't overdo it ^^

I heard this song and instantly tried to play it...

Now I practice for about 3 weeks and play it quite well... (I'm 15 and got piano lessons for about 1 year now (I'm not asian, lol))

  • I spent a whole weekend trying to overcome the technical aspects of this piece (i.e. playing all the notes correctly). I'm Asian LOL

  • wow :|

  • So beautiful, so lovely!

  • Wow, fascinating - you can hear how he's matured when you compare this recording with the way he played the same piece at the Chopin competition in 2000. That's on you tube too - scroll down on right, it's called 'Yundi Li plays Sun Flowers by Wang (piano), posted by CleverDjembe. I never thought it was possible to improve on perfection, but he has! :-)

  • > Yundi Li plays Sun Flowers by Wang (piano), posted by CleverDjembe

why not just post the link ???

  • playing a non-Chopin in a Chopin competition?!

  • Correct me if I'm wrong, but in the Chopin competition, you are only allowed to play pieces by chopin. :)

  • i think it is just a motto (like the chess tournament, the Right Move)

  • That's what i thought. ofcourse this has nothing to do w/ the competition

  • Sorry, I guess youtube formatted my comment differently than I intended. I was replying to a guy that said something in the context of "Yundi Li has matured so much... Check out him playing this song in the chopin festival by clicking (one of the videos on the right)

  • there is NO WAY that a non-Chopin would appear in a "Chopin festival".... I think you're talking about his concert; Yundi Li live in Concert, it's a DVD

  • I think they play lots of pieces by Chopin, and one or two by someone else. Didn't Rafal do a Beethoven??

  • Sorry this is a noobish question, but what is this "grade"? (in this case, not school grades) I've never even heard of it. Plus I am not that experienced in piano, but I have overcome many hard songs. :)

  • Does anyone have the sheet music. I need it!!!

  • Haha

I'm Asian, but I'm not a music student. I've seen other people, who weren't Asians ask, "What grade?". I definitely agree with what you just said. If you know how to play the piano, you have the technique down, and you can play it aesthetically and emotionally, then you can play the God damn song.

The "grade" doesn't make the pianist; unless, if you suck that much to rely on lessons to learn a song, and you can't practice independently.

And yes, I know how to play the piano.

  • I love this song so much!!!!!

  • LoonooL playes this song very good search profil LoonooL =O

  • anyone know the approximate grade of this piece?

  • Stop thinking about grades. Just because it's a hard grade doesn't mean you can't learn it. You either can, or you can't. But, I don't know. I just had to say that because Asian music students always ask "what grade what grade?"

  • ok, that was a little racey, but I agree with you. I was just wondering if it was worth my time to improve my skill, or if it was a song I could learn on my off time for personal pleasure.

  • A song is whatever you make it : )

Don't ask others what you're capable of.

  • not SO difficult, to LEARN, but awfully difficult to actually PLAY this.

To keep it together as one piece, in the right mood and the right intention, without leaving out all the facettes of the song, THATS the real WORK you have as a player of this song, and this is, what yundi li did.

  • So refreshing!

  • This piece is awesome.

    His hair is coool...=)

  • When I'm down or troubled about something I always listen to this song... Yundi Li is incredible. I absolutely adore his hands technique. So smooth and elegant. And thank you for sharing this video.

  • this piece is really spirit-lifting

  • @ vincent, to play it the way he does - belive me it is as difficult as it sounds;)

  • can you please send this to me?!

    it's absolutely beautiful

  • it's not as difficult as it sounds :)

  • Beautiful! im totally in love with this music. Can u please send this sheet to my email please? i really want to play this music

  • 真的好喜歡李雲迪詮釋的方式

  • where did you get this video? can you upload it somewhere so i can download the higher quality one, or just the mp3 would be nice.

  • that'd be cool to be like him, having every piano technique at my disposal, that way i can play every piece and any piece whenever i feel like it.

  • must be so fun to be able to play like that.. :)

  • woooooow he plays it so well!!! im learning this atm and getting 10000 audial orgasms(just thought you'd like to know) each second because i've always wanted a chinese sounding piece(being chinese) and this is so chinese

  • ahh..you mean eargasms
