Pretty outstanding they would still want to do this and still do it so well. Probably some of the finest harmony of any early Rock song. Thank you Elegants!
Nice to Vito still out there performing. He's lowered the key to this song to "E" (I believe the original was in "G" - 4 keys higher) to where it doesn't really sound like him anymore, but we all get old, don't we? It's still his song, anyway.
Doo Wopp Explosion Live starring Vito Picone And The Elegants, The Crystals, Shirley Alston Reeves original lead singer of The Shirelles, Charlie Thomas Drifters all performing in one night (4 separate bands) on Friday June 24, 2011 at the Chevalier theatre Medford MA (Boston area). I have my tickets.
During the mid 50's and early 60's it was not unusual to take a nursery rhyme and converted into a Hit Record. Vito and the Elegants did just that along with The Reflection's Just like Romeo and Juliet, and The Devotion's Rip Van Winkle. Innocent times with simple lyrics and great Harmony often produced great hits and wonderful memories. It was the best of times for many of us. Ron--Hightway Stars Magazine.
I loved the group and the record for the memories , but folks they sound like old guys singing, nothing like they used to sound, just the same song, with old guys with low voices not really rock and roll anymore it is sad, and don.t give me shit about my opinion I am an old doo wopper my self, not a real first tenor anymore that's life, but to pretend they sound the same that's just lame!!,
I agree! At times it's best to leave well enough alone and this performance is a perfect example. Vito I love ya, always have, but it's time to consider just sitting back now and reminisce.
@rakeuiff I have to agree... i'm 68 and from that Era and still singing... But I do have to sing in a lower range....It's kind of sad when I remember what Vito sounded like on Please believe me
When you get so old you will be proud to sing so well. We will have been gone and have only left a trace. But trust me on this, our trace is your trace....
Takes me back to the old juke box days, The Dell Vikings and so on. The Searchers have been playing this as a background track at their shows. Good songs never die do they?
damn! i wish i was born during the early 60s so i could hear these.
Favorite song.

@hyonrty
Actually, we can enjoy each version equally. The expressions are collectively lovely and the music communes.
Meanwhile, I AM a fervent Dion fan.

True. Vito's voice went from tenor to baritone about 15 years ago. He still sounds good in his new range but he can't hit the high notes.

Half right. Lead and baritone are original (far left and second from right). Other two have been with Vito for 30+ years.

You are right. It's Frank Allen's CD and there's very little he doesn't know about the 50s. Happy days. All we had to worry about were the Russians!
