  • o jakiś polski film o ajmaxie xD

  • Capitalism good njet?

  • so this annoying sound is of the platter.the imax in kolkata, india makes this stupid sound.when we saw harry potter 6,it was our first imax experience,so we got the recliner seats, just below the projection room which was around a 10 by 40 ft square like structure.i have big ears so i heard this annoying sound so you can imagine how my whole experience was.

i wish all theaters were digital.

  • @dipu94321 you dont get the same clarity in digital as that in analog

  • @91dheeraj no wonder why the music record studios still use analog instead of digital recording

  • @dipu94321 well yeah i guess so but that's why if it's a film that you really like you go see it opening night . But at the sametime you don't see a movie that you really want to see in new theater. you see a so so movie there in miday if you can or on night that's not busy check the seat that you think is best and if its you and few people move around between acts. And even then if it's a movie i really like I'll go see it few times in a few different theaters around town.

  • Subtitles, please!

  • Doesnt Imax projectors with Imax movies run at 60 frames per second ? I know Imax DMR movies run at 24 FPS ... Thats why i figured the film was moving extremly fast !

  • it's 24fps, but when you account for the fact that one frame is the length of several 35mm frames, yeah, it's hellafast.

  • This is actually bad news as currently, only 2K is being adopted. I expected them to at least try Sony 4K projectors, but from my understanding, thy have huge issues and probably could not do what IMAX needs. Size of Lamp, Lens requiremnts to archive IMAX requirements are likely not possible using the IDLA DMD technology in the Sony projectors. So, until TI brings out a 4K DLP, (Not even on their road map) IMAX as a questional path forward.

Pitty, Love IMAX tech, always so over engineered ;)

  • Im in middle of converting the old Charleston IMAX to convetional 35mm. Its amazing to see the amount of planning and detail that goes into and IMAX theater. Like uoe siad, EXTREMLY overengineered.

  • It is good to see this video, considering.. Film based IMAX is pretty much dead. Its just becoming far to expensive to make the content. So much so the business model is starting to fail. Digital is being developed quickly by IMAX engineers to replace FILM based IMAX in the near future.

  • digital imax projectors

  • i'm goin to my 7th year working with Victoria5 from Cinemeccanica. lol

    peace

Saludos

  • yea that looks cheap

  • batonik69, you're an idiot, buy a life and add to my account, looser

  • simplemente, expectacular, que calidad de imagen, en cuanto lo digital quiere ser el proncipe, imax se consagra como el rey de la imagen.

  • ITS TOO SMALL

  • I love IMax. I saw the remake of Poseidon there, I thought it was amazing and wasn't even in 3-D! And when I saw Superman Returns, it was in 3-D and I loved it!

  • Anyone ever been to an IMAX Dome theater, There's a great one in tampa at MOSI. Best picture you'll ever see period!

  • Yeah, I live in Tampa too, but I prefer a rectangular screen b/c it can play 35mm movies b3tter than a dome, like Star Wars II.

  • yws me have one in portland Oregon very buetiful kinda hurt syour neck lol but its awsome!!! its in omsi

  • I'm a projectionist in one. :D

  • Cool! I always wanted to work as an IMAX projectionist considering I could never afford one in my home lol. But there's not any IMAX theaters near where I live now. I've never actually seen how it works, But I know from Wikipedia about the vacuum that holds the film on the pins & the rolling loop technology which is really cool & causes almost no film wear.

  • My 2 cents, Imax is far from old fashioned film. If you read about the technical achievements & the rolling loop technology used to handle the film you'll find that it is a pretty sophisticated system, As far as digital goes we are a long way off from seeing digital equipment that can truly rival that of 70mm film or even 35mm prints which are still used in most every theater. Simply put currently pixels are huge compared to film grain & you get much better quality with film.

  • I like the minute and a half of just the outside...

  • What do you mean they wouldn't be happy about this? At our IMAX theater at St. Louis Science Center, the projection room has glass walls and the line loops around it so you can see inside all the components and the people at work.

  • The one I work in has an enormous glass wall as well, so that people can watch me thread. But you'll notice you can't see the front of the projector through those windows - and that is no accident. IMAX is very strict about keeping their technology under wraps.

  • Rofl, You can get a lot more image quality in a printed negative than an image that can be loaded by a projector in the same time.

  • y am i a minute in and still watching the parking lot

  • they still use old fashioned film... WTF. i thought they were using some sort of high density disk or something like maybe like blue ray but better than blue ray

  • keep in mind the date on the shot in the projection room was 3 - 27 - 01....2001...6 years ago...didn't have blue ray then

  • well the digital cinema's in australia use hard disks playing HD (1080p) video... don't know bout anywhere else...

  • They do here in the US as well

  • wow, that was a really long video

  • I'm an IMAX projectionist, too. And as mrflippant said, IMAX would not be happy about this video being out. Just be careful. Great video though, I enjoy seeing other IMAX setups. Ours is a 3D system, so we have twice as much work to do! XD

  • iv never worked in a movie theatre at all, but isnt this a 3D or at lest one part that can be used on a 3D syste, because if you go right to 4:17, doesnt it say "IMAX 3D"

  • You are right. After I posted that, I even noticed that the projector is set up for 3D, it has two rotors. :)

  • for the imax presentation does that presantation come from the film

  • there was an Imax theater that i went to and they had stage lights that created the presentation

  • Sorry, should also have said, great video. I've seen the IMAX in London. It's amazing. Puts my 16mm Bell and Howell into perspective!

  • Let's hope alienfetus was stillborn

  • Note the speed in which the cake plate is rotating a whole lot faster than 35mm and regular 70mm. IMAX 70mm is larger 15perf and heavier so it needs to turn fast to roll of the film.

Note Co2 that is used to clean the projector this is common in most cinemas.

    Thanks for sharing.

  • Note the air sound that was so loud and got less and lesser when lacing up the IMAX projector the film floats on a cushion of air inside the projector so I was told. It's a whole lot more complex than the 35mm projectors I've worked on in the past.

  • I'm pretty sure IMAX isn't keen on people publishing close-up video footage of someone threading their projector.

  • does the film run faster then a standard 35MM film projector used in commercial movie theaters

  • yes and no - it runs at the same frame rate (24fps), but since each frame is 15 perforations long rather than 4 perforations like 35mm, it has to move almost four times faster in order to do it.

  • Actually YES, IMAX is suppose to run at 60fps. 2D, not sure about 3D. Why do you think the platter is spinning so fast. 60fps is used as temeral perception of a human is about 60fps. Ie faster then that and, in general, a human cannot tell the difference between it and real life. IMAX is suppose to be as real as it gets..

  • IMAX 3d runs at 24fps just like 2D. The platters move so fast because the 15/70 film has 15 preferations vs the 4 on 35mm

  • Cool video! I always wanted to be an Imax projectionist. Such neat technology, I got a few film videos of my home setup you may be interested in.

  • ok, I get it, your at a cinema..., ok yes now we're in the projection room.

  • I'm feeling slightly anxious at the moment.
