hey cud not reply earlier.....the lepcha priest or the Bongthing is calling upon the ancestors of both the bride and the groom to witness the linking between the clans. the ancestors' spirits are believed to reside on the banks of the lakes below the mountain peaks (each clan was assigned one unique peak and one unique lake).....so on this day the spirits are requested to accept the clan of each other so and bless the union so that they can flourish on the earth.
