The thing about being in a democracy is that you don't always get what you want, that does not justify forcing your opinion on others though violence. It's true that some catholic areas were abused by protestant paramilitary, that's why the troops were sent in. Civil rights issues (on which most will agree with you) are not to do with the murder of soldiers and civilians for a united Ireland.

@keveydaking That's because nationalists were the ones who committed more violent acts and the ones attacking British troops, therefore making it the British Army's concern to stop them. Also the Army at first had greater presence in the Catholic areas it was meant to be protecting, therefore it came in contact with more nationalists.
You must remember the only reason such measures were introduced were increased and unhelpful PIRA attacks on the Army, which deteriorated the situation.

Many Unionists think of Ireland as a catholic theocratic shithole, and TBH I find myself agreeing with them on that matter. For economic reasons it is not a good time to unite with Ireland due to the recession, and for cultural reasons they just like being part of the UK.
They don't want to be part of the Republic, deal with it.

The thing about being in a democracy is that you don't always get what you want, that does not justify forcing your opinion on others though violence. It's true that some catholic areas were abused by protestant paramilitary, that's why the troops were sent in. Civil rights issues (on which most will agree with you) are not to do with the murder of soldiers and civilians for a united Ireland.

I do understand what you argue about civil rights, but attacks only embittered communities. You mean 'population' not 'pollution'. Yes Bloody Sunday was a massive cock up but it was not ordered and increased PIRA membership and murders afterwards only made the situation worse.

The Army was sent in as a neutral force to protect catholic communities; they were even cheered in. The attacks on soldiers by the PIRA illustrated their resentment of Britain; they came out of nothing but a childish urge to through of the 'imperialists', not a civil rights campaign.
The civil rights issue and was not imposed by Westminster and was worsened by violence.

@keveydaking That's because nationalists were the ones who committed more violent acts and the ones attacking British troops, therefore making it the British Army's concern to stop them. Also the Army at first had greater presence in the Catholic areas it was meant to be protecting, therefore it came in contact with more nationalists.
You must remember the only reason such measures were introduced were increased and unhelpful PIRA attacks on the Army, which deteriorated the situation.
