Claymores looked good in Braveheart, but were shit in close-quarter combat. Dirks and battle-axes were the rule of the day. The enlisted sword is based off of the old Army Officer calvary saber from civil war era. The officer sword is a replica of the Mamluke sword presented to Lt Presley Obannon after we kicked some Terrorist ass in Tripoli, but you'll learn that in boot camp.
The Marine sword is patterned after a Mameluke sword given to the Marines after the Battle of Derne in Tripoli. Though I'm not really sure why they made such a big deal about it. It was mostly foreign mercenaries that did the fighting against the Ottomans in that battle, less than a dozen marines actually took part.

Claymores looked good in Braveheart, but were shit in close-quarter combat. Dirks and battle-axes were the rule of the day. The enlisted sword is based off of the old Army Officer calvary saber from civil war era. The officer sword is a replica of the Mamluke sword presented to Lt Presley Obannon after we kicked some Terrorist ass in Tripoli, but you'll learn that in boot camp.

The Marine sword is patterned after a Mameluke sword given to the Marines after the Battle of Derne in Tripoli. Though I'm not really sure why they made such a big deal about it. It was mostly foreign mercenaries that did the fighting against the Ottomans in that battle, less than a dozen marines actually took part.
