a HYPOTHESIS is an unproven statement. A fact is an observation. You can use facts to prove a hypothesis. A theory is the next level, and is a structured way of explaining the hypothesis. I coudl say "all swans are white." First off, apes are the closest genetic match we have to any other species. Our genes differ by somewhere around 1% (still a significant number of genes). Second, our cousin species and the oldest known human remains are found in the same region of the world. Third, our anatomy is a modified version of theirs. Fossilizing a creature and having that fossil survive to present day is such a rare occurrence it's a miracle we find any at all, save for clams in claybeds. With all the scavengers in the savannas and jungles of Africa, a creature your size has almost no chance of remaining intact enough to fossilize unless you die in very odd circumstances.

Also, natural selection has a prejudice against compromises. Like minerals in a piece of heated rock, only certain combinations of traits are stable (promote survival). Any large advantage in a member of a family of species will result in the extinction of the mediocre ones and the dominance of the specialized member. This weeding out of intermediate species is what makes transitional fossils so hard to find.
