This video doesn't make any sense. And they have an agenda? Yeah, to teach people to be more skeptical. Skepticism/disregarding superstition is the whole point of their group, so of course they have an agenda. An agenda isn't bad. It is an objective.
Lol. You so dumb. At least, if you are really interested in knowing the truth, you can go and see Brian Sapient in person and see that he is real. I'd like to see you do that with Jesus or God. hahaha.
a HYPOTHESIS is an unproven statement. A fact is an observation. You can use facts to prove a hypothesis. A theory is the next level, and is a structured way of explaining the hypothesis. I coudl say "all swans are white." T oprove it, I could travel the earth taking photos of thousands of swans (though that can never proove there isn one green swan somewhere) the theory would be looking for a gene or something to explain why they are white
this is of course (to the scientifically minded) retarded, as gene theory is the real theory here. In reality, finding a gene that gives swans their feather colour would be evidence to support gene theory. Im just trying to break down the process for people who have been fed hovinds nonsense
if you r referring to Isaiah, an OT book which mentions unicorns, in that case it refers to wild bulls. Then again, there might have been horses with a horn on there heads, so maybe the unicorn, as most of us see it, may have existed.
Well you can't argue with that. The point I think he was making is that many theists are happy to accept most of science except the bits that clash with their beleifs, which is silly, rather than accepting their religious texts as a philosophical ideal, or moral code. Were talking about laypersons writing in the times of witches and mega superstition. Doesn't make them any less valid in a theological sense. Im wrong, aren't I?
by accepting science I mean using a computer, electricity, lightbulbs, nylon, TV, phones, etc. Most of those who refute evolution will happily use chunks of it when it suits them- ei, their sister gets murdered, but the killer gets caught via DNA traces- no problem there...
As you can see from people's comment there's a fair bit of venom in those comments. This is consistent with many of my dealings with people who deny God's existence. Thats all.
TRUE, PLENTY OF ATHEISTS ARE ASSHOLES. whoops, fullcaps. You get dickheads on both sides of the argument. "You're going to hell!!!" VS "you're a delusional idiot" etc.Its just creationism that I have beef with really.
I can't imagine why we'd have any reason to resent the faithful. I mean, you've only been burning, excommunicating, libeling, murdering, and generally harassing us for as long as we've been around. And that stuff about you getting to raise our children with your values and endangering the economy by subverting our educational system and your contribution to the spread of AIDS because of your dislike of condoms is so misunderstood.
While I do not have, and can never have, any proof that God does not exist, I now have proof that your sense of rationality does not exist.
BTW to you always telling scientists to prove that God doesn't exist, prove that there is not an old woman named fred living in a mansion inside a black hole at the center of our galaxy, who is completely immune to the laws of the universe and therefore lives there happily.
hey ass dumpling, your a fucking idiot that doesn't live in reality. You have no cognitive thinking ability and you suck at life. congrats you piece of shit.
boydysurf-Great video. I agree with you wholeheartedly. Atheists don't have a leg to stand on. There rational is full of "theories" and outright made-up lies, with just a nugget of truth to pull in the unlearned, gullible, younger crowd, and guiding them to eternal torment. The Bible talks about you people and it's not good.
Well, if you don't know what a theory is , its a bit like saying "their rationale is full of bimstok. Now, I don't know what a bimstok is, but I sure as hell don't like it."
You realise semiconductor physics, the body of learning that has lead to developing semiconductor components that created the computer you are using is a "theory" as well? Also, gravity is a theory. What are these outright lies, and why do I need to have, let alone lack, a leg to stand on?
Your "theories" are unproven statements. Take the theory of evolution. It has never been proven even a little bit, yet we put it in textbooks and teach it to our children. Atheists foundation of belief is built on suppositions and secular popular opinion. A man built foundation. It will not stand up to the storms of Truth. There is no basis for being an atheist. An atheist's foundation is error.
Why do you believe it's never been proven even a little bit?
Do you know why Penicillin isn't used very much anymore?
And if we're intelligently designed, why do we have an appendix which serves no purpose to us but can get infected and potentially kill us? And before you answer that it's God's sinner-B-gone button, remember that all sorts of people get appendicitis.
How can you say that the appendix serves no purpose? Every body part has a specific purpose; God designed us in perfection, Adam sinned against God and God cursed man; Jesus came and paid the price for sin. The curse is still here but we Christians have authority over it. Salvation is the theme of the whole Bible. I can't talk much science with you because I don't know a whole lot, but I am not unlearned either. Penicillin, why not used?
You are making some serious logical fallacies in that post. In fact, you missed the point of just about everything I said. Unfortunately I have little ground to work with here because, as you said, you don't know much science, and 500 characters is too small a limit for the amount of background info I'd need to give. Still, you should be able to realize that if you don't know a lot about science, you might not be so fit to criticize it.
So, I suggest that for every issue in science that you debate, you do a bit of research on it first so you can identify the strengths and weaknesses of your opponent's position. Otherwise you're wasting both your time and theirs. You won't persuade anybody of anything by ignoring their arguments, but you might actually undermine your own side.
Believe it or not, the only reason we don't believe in God is because we have no logical reason to. It would be nice if there were one, but I can no more justify believing in God than believing there's an invisible gnome living under my bed who creeps up on me every night to nibble on my nose hairs while I sleep.
In a large enough group of bacteria, there will be some who happen to be resistant to the drug. These survive the treatment and multiply. After several generations, the resistant strains become more common because they have a better survival rate. In large animals, these changes happen slowly. Bacterial generations are measured in hours though, so natural selection works annoyingly fast for them.
So, most bacteria today are descendants of the survivors, and tend to resist penicillin. This is a serious problem, because bacteria can reproduce as often as every half-hour. For every one of our generations, they get at least 150,000. Small wonder that they can evolve so quickly when subjected to environmental pressure.
If you want details, look up antibiotic resistance or superbugs.
Natural selection, but NOT evolution. A bacteria cannot mate with a flea and produce offspring. An ape can never "evolve" into a human. It has NEVER been proven. There has never been a transitional fossil found. I wonder why? Hmmmm...because there aren't any? Yea, that could be it.
Your last comment is why you need to learn science before criticizing it. Natural selection is the mechanism that turns mutation into evolution, by filtering out the random element. What's this about bacteria and fleas mating? Is that what you think we think? Who is telling you what evolution is? Imagine if I said Jesus created - and died in - the Flood because he was turning wine into water, and you'll have an idea of how poorly you understand evolution.
Evolution is the cumulative alteration of genes over many generations, caused by random mutations that are filtered through natural selection. This filter weeds out the bad mutations and promotes survival of the good ones. A species splits into two or more branches when enough mutations have occurred in separated groups to make breeding between groups impossible.
But why are you asking me? I'm limited to a mere 500 characters per post, hardly ideal for explaining such a complex concept. I have to gloss over quite a bit in order to get the most important points across. Either ask me to make a blog about it where I can explain it in detail, or go watch a lecture on natural selection. A good one is titled "waking up in the universe" and is here on youtube. It's Richard Dawkins before he became as enraged as he now is with the ID crowd.
I must not be doing a very good job of explaining this.
First off, apes are the closest genetic match we have to any other species. Our genes differ by somewhere around 1% (still a significant number of genes). Second, our cousin species and the oldest known human remains are found in the same region of the world. Third, our anatomy is a modified version of theirs. (and actually, we are both modified and optimized from our common ancestor for our separate lifestyles)
I see that you believe that you "evolved" from apes, or their "common" ancestor. Actually it has been recently discovered that the difference is about 5%; Which is way to much difference to even have an inkling of being related to man. I see that you are very smart. I will give you that. But believing that you "came' from apes and ours non-existing ancestor makes you a fool in my eyes and further discussion would be >>>>
>>>>fruitless. Pity, it would have been a good conversation over many days, as I am not as ignorant of science as I led you to believe, but have not practiced in a while. It's not your practices or way of life that I am concerned about, it is your "belief" that you think you come from apes' ancestors. That is what makes you a fool in my eyes: That and only that.
But what is more foolish, to reject it out of hand, or to examine the evidence first?
What you have said in this discussion indicates that you understand science as well as a 5-year old understands personal finance, so you haven't taken a serious look at the evidence.
Can you do me a favor? I've invested a lot of time explaining things to you, so explain something to me:
I want to know how people can think that way, and why they think it will work for their benefit.
Fossilizing a creature and having that fossil survive to present day is such a rare occurrence it's a miracle we find any at all, save for clams in claybeds. With all the scavengers in the savannas and jungles of Africa, a creature your size has almost no chance of remaining intact enough to fossilize unless you die in very odd circumstances.
Also, natural selection has a prejudice against compromises. Like minerals in a piece of heated rock, only certain combinations of traits are stable (promote survival). Any large advantage in a member of a family of species will result in the extinction of the mediocre ones and the dominance of the specialized member. This weeding out of intermediate species is what makes transitional fossils so hard to find.
there is so much that is wrong with what you just said. You prove my point exactly. How can you say evolution has no evidence? Theres so much of it that your statement is flabbergasting. there is an awful lot of misinformation out there. All scientific discovery is theory. And there not mine, there yours too.
Did you know that "Sapient" really isn't his last name? He uses that last name for all the religious nuts out there who use violence in the name of their personal imaginary friend...
You're kind of playing off the fallacious "I'm angry at God, therefore He doesn't exist" argument. That doesn't really work, especially when you have positive evidence for the existence of those with whom you're angry.
I deny them as well, but that's just because I think they're a bunch of regular people who are just more outspoken than others. They are a microcosm of atheistic society--just people with their own views. They are not spokespeople, in my view.
People have talked to them, met them, had conversations with them online. You can see the encrypted time stamps of their emails and videos. There is no such evidence for God. How are you using the same arguements?
Surely that is nonsense! All testimonial evidence for the existence of Brian Sapient has been discredited. Are you even sure Sapient is his proper surname? Videos of him are not authentic and must be treated as myth. Any video recording of him is only someone who looks like the Brian Sapient you have made up in your mind!

Transitional fossils:
Fossilizing a creature and having that fossil survive to present day is such a rare occurrence it's a miracle we find any at all, save for clams in claybeds. With all the scavengers in the savannas and jungles of Africa, a creature your size has almost no chance of remaining intact enough to fossilize unless you die in very odd circumstances.

Also, natural selection has a prejudice against compromises. Like minerals in a piece of heated rock, only certain combinations of traits are stable (promote survival). This weeding out of intermediate species is what makes transitional fossils so hard to find.
