Canadian or with Canadian Influences?!? Nice view on that. Hehe, had to laugh a bit... never heard that Subway were influenced by canadians. Neither do they seem to be influenced by Eisregen (bad comparison), Tyr or Windir. Subways Music isn´t "Folkmetall" like these three bands. It´s pure Rock with german lyrics, most of them modern ones with modern topics. It´s just "black folks music" with electric hurdygurdy.

Don´t compare it to black metall or medeaval folk music...

Well, I think it is quite difficult to find a genre for them, some albums have lots of folk elements while others have no folk elements at all. If you compare "Album 1994" and "Nord Nord Ost", it's hard to find a genre wich includes both, but who cares really as long as they make great music.^^

It's called "folk metal", because of the obvious ties to German, Scandanavian, and sometimes even French Canadian folk music with the keyboards and electric violins, and it can either be power metal influenced, like Blind Guardian, which almost sounds like medieval music, or black metal influenced, like numerous bands like Eisregen, from Germany, Tyr and Windir from Denmark and Norway, respectively, and Profugus Mortis, from Quebec, Canada
