my dad met jack in london in the 60s, He used to be drinking in alot of irish pubs there. He was declared bankrupt in court and when leaving the court he tiped the doorman a 20 pound note.A reporter asked him how he could tip someone after been declared bankrupt .Jack replied "Style boy style
Doyle fought 28 fight in the army as well 27 were ko in the first round last went 3 rounds. He lost his way and lots of money after the army as he said himself fast women and slow horses . He wasted his boxing talent to sing on stage act and drink. He said himself he was a coward but i dont believe it as he was beating grown men up at the docks in Cobh from the age of 14.
My granfather used to drink with him in Blarney in Cork. Doyle drank an whole bottle of brandy before stepping into the ring with Baer. He ended up pennyless in a bedsit in London - a very sad end.
A bit of useless info... 1. Doyle married Movita Castaneda and she ended up marrying Marlon Brando but she would always send money over to Doyle who was sadly lost in a bottle of booze.
2. He is burried in Cobh. Co.Cork Ireland and his famous saying when asked did he regret wasting all his money on drink, women and gambeling....'twas never a generous man went to hell.".
Here's to you JACK. A true Irish and Boxing Legend

A bit of useful information: Jack hit Movita when she was pregnant and she miscarried. Jack was a fat Irish bum who got drunk before he fought as he was afraid.
Yes it did. He came back drunk with some dame, she confronted him, and he hit her. She miscarried. He used to get loaded as he was terrified of fighting.
Hi my name is Thomas Crane Age 53 I married Debby Doyle Age 47 her dad is Terry Doyle Age 80 His Dad Peter Doyle The brother of Jack Doyle. We have only just learnt about Jack Doyle. As a mater of fact my son age 14 is boxing and his achievements are.
Warren Crane Liverpool Croxteth Boxing Club
Merseyside & Cheshire ABA Campion
We are very proud to be related to Jack and my son has gained strength on learning about Jacks achievements
He was my uncle, and I met him in his later years (through the 1970's). Unfortunately he was a heavy drinker in later years and died in London in 1978. He was 6 ft. 4 1\2 inches, and his boxing weight would have been about 15 and half stone.
@Doyle1958 How ya, I met a man at the Galway races in 76, he was dressed to the nines and huge, very elegant, surrounded by loads of people, I told my dad and he said, straight away, that was Jack Doyle. I never confirmed it but I'm confident it was.
The voice is brilliant, I think he had a huge self belief, with an occasional self doubt creeping in.
Baer hit him low and I've seen a picture of the buckled protector (cup) to prove it.He was brave enought to get up from this, but never recovered enough to win the fight. Also, my father was at ringside and saw this.
And, no, he wasn't a wife beater, but he did like a drink.
i just did some research on Doyle. When Baer, who was only 20 completely destroyed Doyle in 1935. And Baer was really not a good fighter. Also, I heard Doyle was a wife beater and always drunk. But I really only heard this from one old timer that was around during that time. Hope it is not true though.
ebeneezzr: I actually have never seen the fight, did you? Baer really was not a good fighter as his brother was. Please write more information about Doyle, as i am beginning to research him. Tks.
ebenee: Did research on Doyle. Doyle was 6ft.5 won 17 knocked out 16. Only lost 6 fights. It seems like he was a good fighter? But only fought 23 fights though. k.o. average was 69.57% very good. Wonder why he never fought longer?? Could be his drinking, but only guess. Old timers told me that he did drink too much. PLEASE ONLY RUMOUR.
Oh thanks I'm a nephew of Jack who had exchanges with you before. The nasty comments were painful to behold. Well done to censor this as the one who put on the terrific video.
Irish youtubers may be interested to know that RTE 1 television will be showing a documentary about Jack Doyle on New Year's Day, Tuesday 1st January at 10.35pm. Includes dramatic reconstruction of events, archive footage and interviews with family and friends.
My poem cont'd.He'd proffer his hand this giant paw/ His grip like the vice of crane grab claw/ I also remember Jack at my father's funeral and his hug/Encircling me me and my three brothers/ We all enclosed by this mighty lug/He said; "boys look after your mother."
I met Jack a few times only as a family mourner/He stood out like a giant in our cramped front room/Ironically not pushed into a corner/Above the general din of voices Jack's would boom/Six feet five of Cork bred power/This former pugilist would tower /Over all of us who could never have ever felt much smaller/My siblings and I being average height and he a half foot taller.
Uncle Jack/ Who came from Ireland way way back/ Emerging from poverty like so many a tough young lad/ Joining the Army the only job to be had/ That promised betterment but meant life abroad/ But only that narrow hop to England cross the heaving Irish Sea/The very place his manager reckoned for an aspiring champ to be.
does anyone know a William O'Shea who was an irish boxe in the 1920/30's if you do can you please tell me where to find him and if there is any pictures of him... his my great great uncle
Read more about Jack Doyle on his Wikipedia page. I live in his hometown of Cobh where he is a legend. I know some of those who remember him and knew him well.
I like your video clip and have rated it as awesome. Please view my clip of some 1930's boxing tobacco cards. They include Jack Doyle, Jack Dempsey , Joe Louis, Jack Johnson and many more.
We have the cigarette card in respect of my uncle Jack Doyle in our family archive. I saw it on the wall of a pub and valued at £70 in a specialist shop. Your's (creamof...) is an impressive collection alright. Cheers Frank E Gibbard (do google me for poetry links)
Thank you for sharing that. It really brings the cards to life when I find people who are actually related to the sports and film stars depicted on them.

What difference does that make - everyone knows the biography of Jack Doyle - his drinking habits and his demise are common knowledge???

@RedRebel8 Common knowledge is the basic problem, in the interest of arseholes every where, lets denigrate every one who ever did anything of merit.
My town is full of drunken idiots, yap yap yap yap yap an' on an' on, they never do anything but talk about the irrelevancy's of life.

There was book written on Doyle by Michael Taub that you can get on amazon. It will give you all the information you need.
Doyle didn't fight longer because he was making more money as a singer and tried to be an actor.
