Make the lower bearing bolt holes into slots for adjustment. Drill and tap a 10-32 hole through your 1" square stock into the slots for the lower bearing bolts. Insert a 10-32 screw after you put your bearing and bolt back in. Now you can tighten the lower bearing against the lower side of the rail by simply tightening the 10-32 screw and tightening the bearing bolt when the slop is gone.
