There is a difference in people's perception of a Marine vs. the other branches. I'm not boasting, I'm programmed to feel that way from all the praise I get from being a former Marine. People's eyes light up when I respond saying "I served in the military...Marines to be exact"..that reaction doesn't happen for other branches. @Chunbiii Since WW2 we have not issued a declaration of war. The constitution states the government must have support of the people by congressional declaration of war before invading or attacking a foreign nation. We went into Iraq based on UN and NATO decisions.
@Chunbiii Last time I checked Marines are a branch of US military. As such they can only be used to defend from an immediate threat to the United States or in war as long as congress declares it. Or we could ignore the constitution and go to war all over the world and our marines can come home in body bags. UN resolutions and NATO orders are not acts of congress. My AAV unit has since added females to its ranks, not that i'm against it, I just see everyone going nuts because of it, civilian articles allowed for wear in uniform, and NOW, sleeves down all year??? the rolled sleeve is like a symbol to u guys (marines) rolled sleeves are also much more functional than non-rolled sleeves too. whenever im working on my car. rolled sleeves or a t-shirt. the arms can easily get snagged on anything.
in a combat situation sure id prefer sleeves down for safety.

Apparently the guy that signed this into effect has never been stationed in Oki or spent time in Thailand in the summer. Taking all the things away that made us stand out sucks, but hey as mad as I am at this rolled sleeves don't make a Marine.
Maybe it will change in the future. We finally got rid of the black beret in the Army with our utility uniforms. So maybe a future Marine Corps Commandant will change it back. I don't really understand not being allowed to roll the sleeves in garrison.

Here in the UK when I applied a few years back they were a bit funny bout my tattoos and I only have a couple that are covered up easily with a shirt. Im not even in any military,but i do agree with all the guys that disagree about the rolled sleeves. its pretty dumb.
the rolled sleeve is like a symbol to u guys (marines) rolled sleeves are also much more functional than non-rolled sleeves too. whenever im working on my car. rolled sleeves or a t-shirt. the arms can easily get snagged on anything.
in a combat situation sure id prefer sleeves down for safety.
normal day? rolled sleeves. looks and feels better.

Maybe it will change in the future. We finally got rid of the black beret in the Army with our utility uniforms. So maybe a future Marine Corps Commandant will change it back. I don't really understand not being allowed to roll the sleeves in garrison.

When the Marine Corps is eventually destroyed by these higher ups or some future president that will be a very sad and dangerous day for America, and it starts with removing the tradition that makes the Marine Corps so great. Who do you want fighting your wars? Why would you do this to our finest!? It actually makes me sad. Semper Fi Marines, maybe if I go back in as an officer I can one day fix this.

The corps is filling up full of the shit bag generation. First they got rid of the black leather boots so Marines didn't have to polish boots. Then they got rid if the old cammies to these digital ones, where you cant put starch on them to make them look squared away. Last time I heard Marines cant get any tats on their arms. Can Marines get the hard charging horse shoe hair cuts anymore? Nope its considered too extreme of a haircut. Next thing they will do is do away with the pickle pt gear.

This goes back to the early 1990's when we had to put on name tapes like the army. I remember when all you had to do iron on the "USMC" and eagle globe and anchor onto your utilities and thats it.

I don't have a tatoo. I served four years and damn near everyone I served with and know then and now has one. My best friend of 14 years is a sleeved jarhead who was medically discharged. We're both disabled Vets.
In all my years I can't even imagine going sleeves down unless we're in the field. Iron, spit shine, and sleeves up. Sorry but this crap just doesn't even register in my mind. Seems more like the Army than the Marines.
They've talked about this shit for YEARS but WTF?!

@McDogginified actually, I worked with my Plt. cmdr everyday seeing as he was my FDO but he was prior enlisted so we got along. and as far as my NCO's went. They got the respect they earned and deserved. You WP kids need to learn you cant learn leadership from a book, its a character trait you just have. Maybe thats why youre in the army. On a sidenote, I only got out after 4 because i got medically retired.as a sgt.

Here in the UK when I applied a few years back they were a bit funny bout my tattoos and I only have a couple that are covered up easily with a shirt.
