  • lol my bad i just read its the nose cone lol

  • whats in the sky 1:04

  • @pro50ryder its just an other rocket, if u watch in the beginning there was more then just this rocket that went up.

  • thats how I get home from school everyday. :D

  • Would be great if it went like 10,000 more feet and would be in space :)

  • it went so high you could see the rotation of the earth, friggin awsome!!!!!!!!

  • @mnmcbm1 ... the rocket is spinning

  • next time launch it off from a balloon

  • Gosh, you people are stupid. If you read the description it tells you that the object at 1:04 and 1:09 is the nose cone to the rocket which separates and has its own parachute.

  • What's the speed of this rocket?

  • 52,000ft? I believe that's what I counted from the beeps. Correct?

  • 1:04 is that an alien ?

  • You could almost see the bend of the earth!!!

  • seriously was that an airplain? what the hell?!

  • What was its peak height?

  • OMG! I can see the curvature of the earth!

  • what is that at 1:04

  • its at 1:04 and 1:09 its not a ufo its another piece of the rocket.

  • Since when is an M1550 the biggest permissible motor in California?

    Great video and rocket though!

  • thats sick it went over the clouds like 40 thousand feet great work guys you rule

  • is that a plane i see at 1:05

  • why the crap was it spinning

  • 1:05 UFO.......

  • Oh, hello, atmosphere.

  • thank you for getting back with me on my questions

  • What is the beeping for?

  • @davidt2468 the beeping is from the two flight computers. Before launch it signals which of the four pyro channels are connected (in this case, just the 2nd one, for main parachute deployment at apogee). On the way back down, the beeps signal the altitude, one digit at a time. But there are two going at the same time. =)

  • Real life cinematics

  • This looks higher than a mile??

  • dude 1.05 is fucking creepy

  • What the fuck was that in the sky between 1:04 & 1:05?!!?!?!? :o

    Omg

    Omg

    Omg

    Omg....

Its President bush coming to rape our children.. :(

  • How high high did it go? how did it cost? and where? And how far?

  • it seems like it takes longer for it to got down, Where did you buy it ? How much? and where would be a good place to launch it in nevada?

  • @brenn702 I bought the first development unit of the sledgehammer kit from giantleaprocketry and modified it. You can find it if you search for those two words.

Black Rock Desert is the place to launch in Nevada. I'd go to an event, like Mudroc next weekend, or XPRS, or my favorite, BALLS.

  • @brenn702 thats cuz theres a parachute

  • cool i must have seen you there then because i think i talked to the person with the sledge hammer. very beautiful rocket

  • Yes. Snow ranch. I just launched it again yesterday on a aerotech mojave green M1500. Will post photos this week on flickr

  • is this launch at snow ranch?

  • where did you launch this? It looks like snow ranch

  • LoL UFO at 1:04!!! I KNEW IT!!! LMAO

  • @mrrepeat fuck yeah!

  • Comment removed

  • @mrrepeat There's something called an airplane.

  • firing the parachute that high seems a bit risky incase it drifts away, does it have a locator build in just in case?

Would it not be better to place the chute in the base of the rocket and allow it to free fall to a lower hight before deployment?

im interested in building something is all.

  • you can add tracking from Big Red Bee or G-Wiz. When I fly high, I would use dual deployment off the flight computer (small drogue at apogee and the main chute at 800 ft.)

  • Ahh right, cheers :D

  • high up...

  • wait a sec i say dots were they meteors oh they are stars oh that s not a strange object that s a cloud

  • make that a three stage

  • decent:). Interesting vid.

  • Holy fuck fuck fuck fuckfuck at about 1:00-1:05 u can see a strange small plane and it's on the corner left side and it's going kinda fast

  • its the rockets nose cone.

  • the strange object is at 1:04 on the mid to upper left. I don't see anything at 1:10

  • genial!

  • your in the fucking ozone layer

  • did you build that rocket engine or did you buy it?

  • at type of camera are you guys using?

  • In this case, Sony PC-1 with wide angle lens. There is more info on all this at the link I added to the bottom of the "more info" section on the top right of the page.

  • I have been launching rockets since 1971, I have been doing Astronomy since 1976. That sure looks awfully suspicious that strange object at 1:10. Sure looks like a UFO to me!

  • This was impressive. I have been looking for home made rockets with rocket cam that can reach high altitude. The video you showed me is the best I have seen. Is there any better than this?

  • jeeezzze u can see da curve o da earth!

  • that was a strange sounding cricket at the start of the vid..

  • two more UFO's at 1:10 :S if you look to the left of the screen...

  • I like the UFO theory.

The nose cone is quite heavy and returns on its own chute. The video cam is mid-body and captures glimpses of the nose.

  • I think its another rocket under chute

  • what the heck is that at 1:05? I saw it before I read the last comment

  • pause at 1:05 its a ufo

  • great view up there

  • AGL

  • Was the altitude 5,204 feet above sea level or was it 5,204 feet above the ground

  • wow

  • Great job Steve! Sitting though the long recovery was actually interesting watching the fog come up and the ground slowly resoving as it passed through. It reminded me of the video from the Hyguens probe landing on Titan!
