This was arguably one of the best shows ever made and my personal favourite. People talk like it flopped also, it didn't flop, it just didn't make as much money as other shows. HBO can be annoying for cancelling shows when they don't appeal to mainstream. I would have thought going after niche/varied markets to cater for more was a strategy in itself.

I find Rome quite enjoyable to watch, there are decent acting performances and the script is fine, costumes and sets are superb, but the editing and directon (Apted) is technically inadequate.
All you people who are sad aboud fall of tv Rome, you should watch I, CLAUDIUS (or read the book by R. Greaves). It's like city of Rome itself - timeless.

No, the creators intended from the beginning to only make 2 seasons (this is actually standard operating procedure for the BBC, which co-produced the show with HBO). They set out to tell the story of the rise of the Caesars, from the death of Julia to the ascendancy of Octavian Augustus, and they did just that. Sure, they could keep the story going into the Principate and Imperial period, or they could do a prequel season about Marius and Sulla (featuring the rise of Pompey), but they wont.

Cleopatra was a great woman, and her portrait in this series is good (one of the better i´ve seen), but the circumstances in her time were against her even if she used all her weapons (beauty, inteligence,etc), and that was sad, very sad.

This is NOT ROME's final season. They were thinking of getting rid of it. Also too when Deadwood was axed it was talkd about that this too. Since it does cost lots of money to make historical shows. Yet, majority of this show is funded by European studio's and backers. Very few money goes into it from HBO where as HBO was flipping the bill for Deadwood majority of that show. Comes back 1/7/06 and I can't wait.
When I found out the entire first season was available on DVD, I immediately ordered it and watched it again. ROME is probably as true to what the city, life and times were as any film made to date. I can't wait for the second season to start. It's a shame that it will end with the defeat of Brutus but then, we've all seen "Cleopatra" and I am not really sure what else can be added.
well if this season takes you up to the battle of actium, the end of the war between antony and octavian, there aint really any dramatic events in roman history in the reign of octavian (augustus) so it will most probs be the last season
i would still love to see the series continue on with octavian's rule. he was such an interesting figure. just finished Everett's book on him and i think there is more than enough to pull for a season 3. i guess we will just have to wait and see how season 2 goes
well there most probs is enouugh drama to fill a third season but season 1 and 2 are about cival war and rome being divided down the middle. A third season would probably be an anti climax with no such wars and would most probs turn people off cause the rule of augustus was known as a great time of peace and prosperity, people would want to see action and strife
you do have a point there. and i guess it might throw people off if they decided to skip ahead to get to the next group of really interesting rulers of rome...

I really hope they change there mind and make season 3! Rome to me is such a in interesting time and place I love all the characters and how they recreate Rome.

This is NOT ROME's final season. They were thinking of getting rid of it. Also too when Deadwood was axed it was talkd about that this too. Since it does cost lots of money to make historical shows. Yet, majority of this show is funded by European studio's and backers. Very few money goes into it from HBO where as HBO was flipping the bill for Deadwood majority of that show. Comes back 1/7/06 and I can't wait.

When I found out the entire first season was available on DVD, I immediately ordered it and watched it again. ROME is probably as true to what the city, life and times were as any film made to date. I can't wait for the second season to start. It's a shame that it will end with the defeat of Brutus but then, we've all seen "Cleopatra" and I am not really sure what else can be added.

well if this season takes you up to the battle of actium, the end of the war between antony and octavian, there aint really any dramatic events in roman history in the reign of octavian (augustus) so it will most probs be the last season

i would still love to see the series continue on with octavian's rule. he was such an interesting figure. just finished Everett's book on him and i think there is more than enough to pull for a season 3. i guess we will just have to wait and see how season 2 goes

well there most probs is enouugh drama to fill a third season but season 1 and 2 are about cival war and rome being divided down the middle. A third season would probably be an anti climax with no such wars and would most probs turn people off cause the rule of augustus was known as a great time of peace and prosperity, people would want to see action and strife

That was a false rumor. HBO said in a statement that it will decide whether to continue with the show based on the second season's ratings, so WATCH IT! The show's run depends on your interest!
