Excellent video! It can get confusing with all the various flavors of 1911's! I pick up a standard 5" 1911 and it just feels like it custom made to fit my hand is just feels good. I am 6'-2 1/2" & 205 lbs. on a good day! LOL! I own a 6" long-slide and a 4 1/4" Commander as well and neither of them gives me that "just perfect" feel that a 5" does. I think that the 1911 is a preference thing. I know that the newer polymer guns have a lot to offer, but just don't feel right to me.

John Moses Browning designed the 1911 while working for Colt he personally went to the Colt factory in Hartford CT and oversaw the production of the first 1911. @trip4201 Still a myth. The only type of modern pistol that's bad to dry fire is a rimfire gun because it will wear on the firing pin. All modern center fire handguns (semi-autos and revolvers) are fine to dry fire until the end of time.

@limalife The czech CZ 52, despite firing a centerfire cartridge, the 7.62x25mm, it has a fragile firing pin, so it's not recommended to dry-fire it, not without something in the chamber, being a dummy round, snap cap, spent casing, etc.

Also, could you explain why it is bad on a rimfire pistol and why/how it wears on the firing pin? I am curious to learn. :)

@MrSatanica On a rimfire the firing pin pinches the rim of the cartridge between itself and a steel plate to ignite the primer and fire the cartridge. Because copper is softer than steel it does not damage or wear on the firing pin. When no cartridge or dummy round is in a rimfire and you dry fire that firing pin strikes the steel back stop and can start to wear down that firing pin.. eventually it will wear down enough to where you don't get a good "pinch" and you start to experience misfires.
