I started reading Jane Austen when I was eleven/twelve, actually because I saw Jane Eyre on TV and asked my mother if she could buy the book, but she couldn't find it so she bought me Pride and Prejudice in swedish. And I loved it so much and started reading her books in english, I have Austen to thank for my good english. Never learned a thing from my english teachers :) I eventually found Jane Eyre, and loved it, too.
i just think jane austen was a wonderful writer and im so happy that Andrew Davies didn't even bother to modernize it because thats what makes it so unique. all the jane austen movies are awesome
His adaptations of Jane Austen novels made me start reading them and now I absolutely LOVE them. Sense and Sensibility is my favorite of all his movies, I adore them all.
Invent scenes!!! Why would you ruin Austen's witty use of the English language? Trim the dialogue down! Jane Austen's dialogue makes her novels wonderful.
A girlfriend recommended this new adaptation movie of Jane Austen's books, but I truly enjoyed the original movies; they stay true to Austen's novels. Jane Austen's novels remain some of the most beloved books because of their wit and charm. Don't change a good thing when you see it.
i've seen all but sense & sensibility so far. looks promising. northanger abbey is an absolute gem, and of course we all know p&p and emma by now. hope s&s lives up to expectations.
love you, mr. Davies!!!!

At first: sorry if my English is bad but I`m German...;o)
I really adore Jane Austen-films and I read some of her books (unfortunatly not in English), too.
Last friday the 2007-version of Sense and Sensibility were shown and I fell in love with that film. I love Jane Austen!!!

I can't say I really like him. Something wrong about him... Although I'm a big fan of his P&P.

FIVE months of this stuff that ALL looks and sounds the same?
A great way to turn the public off to the series, and PBS in general.

Not only inspired me to increase my pledge, but to become a volunteer.

"I always say 'when in doubt, copy it out!'"
I wish more people adapted novels this way, as it makes the most sense. Thank you Andrew Davies, for sticking to the Austen spirit!

Yes, and why ruin Jane Austen's beautiful language. I'm so glad Andrew Davies didn't try to modernize the language. This would've ruined it for sure!

Why don't they mention Persuasion or Mansfield Park?
Bonnieboe 4 years ago
because they are not adapted by Andrew Davies.
