nice work i have my house plan and i will like u to do it for me the same way u are doing it, this is my email address philipking11@yahoo.com send me your contact on how to reach u
at about 8:00, when making the wall, your extrusion still has the image on its faces. Mine doesn't. I can't figure out why. Its like its a new object. Thoughts?
can you drive the features with dimensions alone > draw a square and type in the exact dimensions and it changes size to the dimensions you just typed in? please advise :)
@gmodesike yes, you can input dimensions for just about anything that you draw in SketchUp (lines, circles, polygons, and rectangles). in most cases, you can enter the dimensions either while drawing something, or after having just drawn it. for rectangles, you would need to separate the width and length using a comma. e.g. type "24,36" and press [enter] for a 2' x 3' rectangle. the first dimension will be the length along the red axis, and the second dimension will be along the green axis.
great video helped alot but when i draw a rectangle onto the image and bring the wall up, on occasion it will make part of the surface, or where the floor plan is, dissapear. it makes it so that i can not continue because i can not see the lines
actually, sketchup is for real measurements. your best bet would be to use Layout, which is a separate application that comes with SketchUp Pro V7. otherwise, you need to first turn off the camera perspective, and then set up the print scale under File > Document Setup. when you set up the print scale, it works just like an architectural scale notation such as 1/4" = 1' (i.e. 1/4" in the drawing equals 1' in the model.
i have a busness that requires my drawings to be printed to TRUE SCALE. so whenever i print the real measurements arn't the size they should be, please help me printing true scape.
we made a tutorial that illustrates a pretty decent method for using the Follow-me tool to model roofs. check out episode #6 on The SketchUp Show. just about all of our SketchUp Training DVDs include stuff about modeling roofs. You can watch all the DVDs we've made on our website now for just $29/mo.
not too familiar with Home Plan Pro. can you export your plan from HPP as a PDF? if so, PDF is one of the image formats that SKP can support. in which case you'd follow this tutorial and import the PDF as a starting point. if PDF is not an option for HPP - you could try exporting your plan from HPP as a DWG or DXF file, and bring those into SKP instead. we've got a Pro Series Training DVD on our website go-2-school(dot)com called SKP + CAD which would probably help you out with that process.
Yeah, I did the screen shot thing to go along with Mike's example tutorial re 2D to 3D Floor Plans. Obviously deciding to use the video as a lesson and using a screen shot added a little prep time to the exercise but did do the job. You'll get a good taste of the versatility of SU in this situation and as is mentioned during the tutorial, this is more an eye ball job than 1/64th job unless of course you use a PDF. I'd say any supported format is good for 1/64th accuracy if needed...MTD
there must be limits to what formats it can had Or your photo has been renamed to another format ...best thing i can say if that's the case press print screen and paste it in paint.exe from windows then save it as 16bit color bmp at least if you don't want to loose quality
there are 3 different ways to import photos into SketchUp - depending on the situation. You can either import an image object, or a texture, or import an image to do a photomatch. check the import settings. depending on which settings you're trying to use i can probably provide more specific feedback. for this tutorial, we used the import option for 'use as image'.
Why not have the program outline the floorplan itself by examining the imported image and convert it to grid? Not impossible to do I think, would be nice feature.

@habboretroful to export to CAD, yes you need Pro. To export images (e.g. JPEG), you can use the free version.

@themadmallard... I had the same problem. To make it like his, make sure to explode the image right after it is imported.
