I'm not an expert on Olympic lifts and I would love to try them if I can find a gym which has some bumper plates so I can practise more. But I think what sets Pat Mendes apart from the others is the speed at which he gets the bar into position. He is really explosive.
completely 100% correct sir.when the press was eliminated from competition the bench lost favor with the olympic lifters.powerlifting also branched out to focus on the 3 big lifts.excellent job sir!
this guy is a junior?... wow i'm truly amazed if this guy is under 18 this is really impressive. Do you play football or anything cuz you would run through people
@bobbyoty genetics gave him the ability to train harder and he did exactly that.... i would say a combination of genetics, training, nutrition, and etc
every video I see of you lifting is highly impressive. Seriously, anyone who hates/dislikes these amazing feats of strength is retarded. keep it up man.
i tried to snatch the bar with 70 lbs on the other day, I can easily deadlift 405 lbs, but I couldnt snatch miserable 105 lbs, I lack technique and explosiveness
As always, impressive feats being posted by the Average Bros. I can't tell what kind of straps Pat are using here so I'll ask the question:
Do you prefer the one-piece straps (just a piece of leather/cotton), or the ones that have a sewn loop? Never liked the second one myself, feels like it could latch on if I wanted to drop the weight.
fuck cheap gyms in mexico (and the US) we dont have bumper plates, I just one some cheap not calibrated bumper plates. I hate throwing those iron ivanko plates, everyone stares at me. Iron plates should be illegal.
@wwtdd1 HA-HA-HA-HA!! *wipe tears of laughter away* You will be after trying to snatch 225 for 3 years and still can't. Next, there are GIRLS, under 16, that weigh 50 pounds LESS than you that out lift you!
Just so you know... 400# Snatch has only been done by about 7 Americans in history...EVER. Guess we should recruit more cyclists since you seem to be so athletically superior.
Btw, I had a bike, and it was very easy for me to ride fast in a circle...then I grew up. No offense taken.
@slimjamie1991 something like "I weigh 175 and snatch 185. If I snatch 225 it's like the same as Pat doing 400. Not impressed" He was a sprint bicyclist.

i dont understand the point of snatches besides just displaying a feat of strength, out of cleans/squats/bench its the least applicable to sports or any real like application.
Prior to 1972 there were 3 competition lifts: clean&press;snatch;clean&jerk. They were chosen for 3 very different reasons. The C/P was for 'strong' guys, the 'snatch' was for 'athletic' and the C/J was for a bit of both. The Snatch favored quick, flexible, powerful athletic types, where the Clean& Press was more of a brute strength lift. Whoever did the best in all 3 won the meet. best overall athlete. Bench? LOL.
@slashrulesslither - The movement does seem odd initially, but both the snatch and C&J are sports applicable due to the combination of power production, and neuaraoogical/musclar recruitment. Both are full body movements, both have elicit strong neurological adaptions to help recruit more muscle fiber much more quickly to produce power, and helps build strength on a biological level (you actually grow muscle). Also, it teaches an athlete to use their legs, hips, and back as a unit. There fun too
@slashrulesslither yea, the snatch doesnt apply to anything except for jumping, sprinting, full body explosive strength, balance and flexibility. thats all. MORON
@TurboLemur5000 I believe he's (Hossein) retired, but his predecessor is just like him, but he's banned for competing for a certain period of time for roids. I'm not sure if he'll be there for the 2012 Olympics
With bad form perhaps. Snatch is dangerous if you don't have excellent form. With good form, it is a great strength builder for your whole body. He looks solid during his lift.
@QCJTF2QC you can hurt your back playing a bitch "sport" like bowling. just gotta train raw and perfect form is all. if you need a weight belt and gloves, youre not training realistically and beyond your means. just gotta work up to the stress levels of your aspirations patiently and consistently.
@eskieclunge For anabolics? It's not like it would prove anything. The kid is good because he works hard and is genetically blessed. As far as PED use, doesn't it just make him on par with everyone else in the super heavyweight class?
Hi, this kid is a beast. Broz, do you think the snatch is as useful an exercise for increasing vertical leap as say, power cleans or clean n jerk? Thanks.
how much does it cost to be trained like that? i mean i always wanted to do olympic lifts other than at a normal gym. where can i find a gym like that? and how much does it cost?
@MrMuffins1000 because he's smart? american handegg (aka football) is only good for fucking up your knee or your back. I used to work for a former pro (SF 49'er)--he was in constant pain.
Wish there was a gym like this where I live. All we have is a CrossFit with 3X a week O.L. classes. Would need a lot more time in than that to get proficient at it.
Guys like these are the reason I quit bodybuilding and switched to Olympic WL. Bodybuilding is for weak-ass vaginas. Olympic weightlifting is the real deal. Thanks for providing motivation.
His technique isn't strict, he can do alot more. He rips the bar off the floor and then lets it come in to his body... thats extra energy. You can tell thats not a max lift. I won't be suprised if we see 190kg+ in another video few months from now.
