@seeker111168 Just one actually, I don't like the Radiohead cover she does. I don't like Radiohead and I don't think Sarah can make it any more palatable. But lots of her generation seem to be profoundly influenced by that band (Chris Thile to name but one). I don't see it bringing anything relevant to Americana or Bluegrass.
Somone posted a comment stating this song sounds like Nick Drake "day is done". Not even close to the same. Drake's song is in a minor key, and never transitions to a major, her song is completely in a major key. Huge difference, yeah the instrumentation, as in the way they play the strings sounds sort of similar, but this girl is a force of music to be reckoned with, and did NOT steal from Drake. Just wanted to clear that up.
Sarah- I play your CD in my truck every time I drive. I find your voice and stringed instruments to be the perfect combination to delight my earbones. Actually, it makes me a bit emotional if that makes sense. I heard you on PHC a month or so ago and ordered your CD straightaway, well, 2 CD's actually. I would love to hear you in concert some day. Thank you for so much listening pleasure! Can't wait for the next CD!
Just a guess ...but it may be an octave mandolin. If you capo your mandolin at the 3rd fret like she has, you will be exactly an octave above her and can play along with her
@wwwgraham saw her in London tonight and I thought exactly the same thing.I've seen so many people live but I knew I was in the presence of something special from the first song. :o)
I like everything about this song and her performance.
I stumbled onto the Music Fog channel about five hours ago and am truly impressed by their competency at producing music videos. Thank you, Music Fog...and Sarah Jarosz, Sons of Bill, Catherine MacLellan, Carrie Rodriguez, Terri Hendrix, subdudes, 11 Bones, The Difibulators, and on and on and on...
i almost cant even watch this anymore. it is one of the most incredible songs i have ever heard - And ive been at it for many years.whats more, im more of a definate rocker, with my roots in classic rock/early metal. She has totally floored me.
LOL man, you sound like you've got a shrine in your basement with her picture surrounded by candles and a romantic table set for two down there just waiting for the day when you two can be together :)
@humphreytech ...lol i wouldnt go that far... but i wouldnt aske her to leave, thats for sure. ... But all joking aside, I was just amazed at her ability to capture such emotion and he playing ability, cuz likei stated i am a musician thats been at it for years, and u rarely come across such talent at such an early age - That's all. :) ....
Cant quit listening to her. She is like an unbelieveable person. Has to be. no one can sound like that, and play with such heart and not be extraordinary. I wish i was "her muse"....
Sarah Jarosz knocks me out every time I hear her perform. Her album 'Song Up In Her Head' is completely wonderful and everyone should buy it. I`d also like to congratulate and thank MusicFog for presenting such beautifully recorded clips.
She has, in all of her songs, an immense grasp on dynamics. I think that's one of the marks of a great musician, that they can absolutely control everything about the dynamics of the song, being very deliberate.
Such a wonderful, mesmerizing tune from Sarah. Thanks, MusicFog, for capturing so many amazing performances, like this one, in superb audio and video quality. It is greatly appreciated.
1) What kind of insturment is she playing? Is it a cross of a Mandolin and Guitar?
2)What kind of pickup is on that guitar and where can I get one. I have a Godin 5th Ave. Acoustic and i am looking to put a small pickup on it like that.
@RedCedarRiverBand Sarah is playing an octave mandolin. Not sure on the pickup, but you're not hearing any of it in this recording---strictly microphones on this one.
Outstanding - creativity flows through Sarah straight from the source

That instrument is often called an Octave Mandolin.. and Sarah plays it masterfully.
Her performance of this original song is soul-touching... it's so utterly beautiful.
