Thanks so much for this. Haven't heard it for years! Love it. It hasn't dated at all. I used to have it on a mix tape with "Nothin' goin' on but the rent" by Gwen Guthrie/"Work it to the bone" by LNR/"I say yeah" by Secchi ft. Orlando Johnson. In my opinion, none of these tracks has dated. Thanks again.
Classic NYC, the city that served as the incubator for house, rap, hip hop, eletro..Way back when I bought this at Music Factory on Times Square John the Garagehead pointed out quite correctly that the drumz are right from the Colonel's Music is the Answer. Great track.
Yeah thats how it used to be in England, then everyone started putting music into boxes. There was really one really good radio station in England, say at the time of 1980. It was run by a guy called Robbie Vincent - on the Radio station calle Radio London. He just didn't care he would play all types of music on his show - from Soul, to Jazz Funk, From Disco to funk. What a show that was!
Takes me back to hearing this for the first time on Radio. I heard this on a Show called "Boogie Down with Dave Brown" on Ipswich Town,(England) Radio station.
Great memories. This is when Dj's within clubs played all different styles of Dance music under one roof as well.
You didn't go to HipHop Club, or a House Club, Or a Soul Club, or a Jazz Funk Club.
All the Dj's of that time played everything and had really good ears for music as they were listening to everything not just one style.
So good to hear someone echo my own experience. I grew up in NYC and started going to clubs in 1988. The best DJs were not Hip Hop DJs or House DJs or anything They played CLUB MUSIC. Everything was fair game under that umbrella. Sadly, it got so segregated by genre in the middle 90s that the whole thing just died. Miss the old days.
Great mix from Yvonne Turner. Respect to Mix Engineer Bob Blank, too...Wax The Van! A 2 bar pinch of Colonel Abrams is no bad thing, either!
I'm sure the original arrangement was a bit jumbled. That's the luxury of a) Creating a 12in Ext. Mix b) Making the mix specifically for the clubs. You get to pace to the arrangement over 7 - 10 mins, create builds, add and subtract etc.
François Kevorkian did a fantastic mix of Dinosaur L's "Go Bang". The original mix, though great, was a mess, too!
The only reason Yvonne was able to make this a good jam is because it was a extraordinary track. With some of the greatest musicians that ever walked the Earth (Charlie Palmieri, Barry Rogers, Marc Quinones, et al.) and the great Willie Colon as producer. Willie Colon didn't need Yvonne at all.
The Orignal was a mess until Yvonne Turner got her hand on it. She worked the mix, using the drums from Colonel Abrahms "Music is the Answer" which she also helped mix. I know, I was there. FIERCE..remember us bringing it to LArry Levan and the rest was FIRE.
why was it a mess? because it was recorded in Willie Colons basement?? Oh wait, u wouldnt kno becuz u DEFFINETLY werent there for that, and the Mixing and making the quality of a song better DOES NOT TAKE talent....at all....sorry.....id have to say the mothrfuckers who played the music and sang the damn song would be the talented ones. Mamaguebo.
Oooooooh yes,at last,i first heard this tune played on soul train way back in the 80s,and now its here,in its full 12" version.BIG THANX for uploading this classic. Can we burn onto cd from here?????
I have not heard the mix that I rememebered for over 20 years now. This is a classic dance record by far. It is the only time that I have ever heard of this artist.

Last year in the middle of January it was -30'C one night. I come home to unwind and I'm freezing my ass off.
Then I play this track, sit back, and it feels like a hot summer night. Amazing song.
