"Commando" Deneys Reitz. He was a boer joined at the start aged 17 and lasted right till the end. his personal story through lots of action, was a front line man.
One of my ancestors was in the battle of the spion kop, it annoys me that people think liverpudlians were the only ones in the battle of the spion kop. I sit in the spion kop at Deepdale every homegame.
@PrestonNorthEndFan i agree mate, iam a liverpool fan meself, i live in maghull on the outskirts of the city,i think people from liverpool are mainly thought of as the men who fought on spion kop but there was poor men from all over lancashire, yorkshire and most of the north who fought there, my great great uncle billy fought there he was from liverpool, he got the victoria cross after world war one,
@FamineHead10 My great Grandad or great great grandad fought there (cant remember which) to be honest it was mostly the places with alot of Irish immigrants like Liverpool and Preston. (wonder why they chose the places with high irish immigration to fight in one of the bloodiest battles at that time)
Wow what a coincidence, i was just reading about this battle and wondered if it was on youtube. Thanks for the upload (only a few days ago!) ps I'm a United fan.

WE ARE THE MEN OF THE ANFIELD SPION KOP
Our team is Liverpool FC.
We like to sing and shout,
Because we know,
We'll cheer the team to victory.
For it's a great team you'll agree,
And we'll go down in history.
We've won the cup, been champions too,
And today we'll murder you.
We're the Liverpool FC.

As a non Liverpool fan, I have been to the Kop and loved the atmosphere.
An excellent mini documentary. Very moving.

I believe the song "the Reds(Kings (regiment) are coming up the hill lads..."
was adapted by the Liverpool fans to commemorate the event.
Quite a few of the lines in it are very similar to the original regiment song.
My Dad used to sing it in the 60's and sometimes still today.
Scouser Tommy became more popular during the late 70's my dad again, remembers handing out the song sheets at away games.

What a story... It suits Liverpool FC perfectly. Who could have imagined... I´m wondering if Bill Shankly knew this story? Almost sure he did....

Wow, Ghandi and Churchill were there!!!
It is as if the soldiers had ditched victory that could have been theirs, in exchange to give Liverpool eternal victory.
