I think the main reason for this is because units move and shoot so fast that you cant control them well enough to change the outcome.

At my first play i was surprised that there is no lower speed setting and no control of the game speed at all.

this is awesome. sometimes i would find 1 guy and we would not really battle each other we would build bases till we covered the entire map[custom 1440x1280 maps]

in skirmish or on my LAN it was a 4 on 4, me and my bro and 1 cpu vs 5 cpus, and so on and so forth.

One of the most advanced games of its time. I used to build up like 1,000 troops and just Zerg my enemies to death.

Doesnt work so well against Imperials with Hard setting......Soldiers just get ripped apart before they get the chance to hurt anything :(.

@ltsonic1 Lol their troops are cheap and they can get Taelon(green stuff) really fast so they can build faster than the Freedom Fighters lol. And their defenses are even better.

I like to use Snipers when i get the chance. They can kill anything in 4 shots. So i make groups of 4 snipers and 2 medics to attack a base :). 0 casualties. 1,200 kills. Eat that Simo Haya!

Dark Reign consumed a large part of my life. Not just playing the game itself but chatting with a couple of players, specifically, Lando and Render (if either of you read this, let me know)...we all devoted ourselves to this game, in defiance of TA, which had a better soundtrack...but there was just something about DR that got us hard...But the magic was destroyed with Pandemics "Dark Reign 2"....the magic is gone....sad....so sad....

This remains one of my favorite 2D RTS games of all time, up there with Starcraft. Even though the units' response time between giving an order and the unit carrying it out was slower than I normally like, I can give it a break for being one of the first RTSes, and truly unique and one of the best at that.

@chaosgreyblood Hell yeah, keep in mind it was released in 1997. But hands down beats Starcraft. I love having freedom to win with a pure soldier army hehe. There is a cheat where if you save when upgrading, after save you can build with other facilities as if the upgrade has been complete :)

Go to the .exe file for launching the game, right-click, go into Properties and set it to run in compatibility mode for Windows 95. That worked for me

One of the first things I do is scout with a scout runner or spider bike. Also, I'd go with infantry first as FG, they're much tougher to stop in numbers in this game.

Put the disc in the drive and look for an executable named SETUP.EXE. Right click, Properties, and Compatibility tab. Check off "Run this program in compatibility mode for..." and set it to Windows 98, then run it. The trick also works on Vista.

That is the Power Plant. It uses Taelon (the green patches) to produce power to keep your production speed at full and your turrets functioning at full power. It starts half full (or half empty if you will) of Taelon and you may fill it to get more energy from each plant.

Dr2 world is way back in the past in a time when there was a still a planet a Earth. Back then on Earth, the JDA, prison guards turn Military police, controls the planet and is resisted by the Sprawlers. The JDa centuries later becomes the Imperium. I'm not sure in the Sprawlers later becomes the Freedom fighters. Freedom fighters are more likely prisoners that have escaped mining prison facilities. Some sprawlers manage to escape Earth destruction. Perhaps they are still around on some planet.

Some sprawlers were deported and would become the early members of the Freedom Guard, most of them were exterminated.

The info is found in the Dark Reign Archives that one unlocks as one progresses.

Again, in single player tactics versus AI differ from those used to counter rushes, Typically I like to use a mixture of Skirmish Tanks, Mercs and Spider Bikes to begin for their rush-stopping abilities. Later game I tend to use phase tanks (though how and why is my dirty little secret)
