Something to add. I have been bitten badly by a total of 6 dogs. One was a German Shepherd, the other a Belgian shepherd (malinios) who "leaked drive". And the other four times by several different small breeds (chihuahua, Rat Terrier, Maltese etc) I have been rescuing pits for the last several years and have never been bitten by any of them. This includes the starved and beaten, along with the true, down and out 'feral' street dogs...

Please there's no such thing as jaw locking in any breed. The reason why that myth exist is because the Pitt bull was originally breed to control bulls therefore a way to do so was by biting them in the nose and not let go at all.. My baby got kicked out of doggy day care for this reason. They had a 6 foot fence with another foot of barbwire. He cleared it and took off in the woods. I understand your dog isn't hurt but you shouldn't have to tap his nose to get him to let go. A simple 'leave it' or 'drop it' should do the job. Nice looking dogs.

But if I give them the command "stop" they let go. They guy here could very easily do this.. but he chooses physical punishment instead, which I find completely unnecessary.

Please there's no such thing as jaw locking in any breed. The reason why that myth exist is because the Pitt bull was originally breed to control bulls therefore a way to do so was by biting them in the nose and not let go at all.. They have very strong muscles and they are very stubborn in letting go of something. That's why is best to trained them to let go instead of hitting them

Ignorance amongst people is why these dogs get a bad name. This is a great video to show the physical strength of a pit. And if the dog is still close to a pup/"young adult" a break stick is necessary for propper traing. Duke is listening awesome for two other dogs being in the picture all he wants is to play. @xdirt3 APBT does not really get over 60 pounds max. If it is 90 pounds it is a mutt or extremely over weight. Apbt are slender dogs and are built like sprinters rather than body builders. "Pitbull" is not a breed, it is a category including over 30 breeds of dog that match a description with a wide margin of error.

My baby got kicked out of doggy day care for this reason. They had a 6 foot fence with another foot of barbwire. He cleared it and took off in the woods. I understand your dog isn't hurt but you shouldn't have to tap his nose to get him to let go. A simple 'leave it' or 'drop it' should do the job. Nice looking dogs.

@Graywolfea6b Gotta tell you, your pup needs some training. You shouldn't *need* a break stick, nor should you need to smack them on the nose to get them to release. If they've gotten so amped up to need either a breakstick or a nose-smack, you've let them get out of control and haven't adequately trained them to not lose control.
Vids like this make life for pit owners, such as me, to take our dogs out in public. People see this and it just reinforces the "angry, mauling pit" stereotype.

You guts need to learn how to train your dogs. Ours all do this but hitting them is un necessary. With correct training they WILL stop. My dog only requires one command and she will drop. Idiots. NEVER hit your dogs.

@madelynbost Or it could just be that my dogs respect me and do what I ask of them. My dogs, at least my youngest one anyway, could hang there for hours if I let them. But if I give them the command "stop" they let go. They guy here could very easily do this.. but he chooses physical punishment instead, which I find completely unnecessary.
