I knew a 747 pilot and he said thats the only time they use the rudder due to the massive strain it puts on the fuselage. Was it me seeing things or did the whole plane bend slightly when it touched down? They are designed to but never seen a fuselage do that before!
are pilots trained to aim adjacent to the run way that sharply turn the rudder to face toward the run way again. this way it would be smooth and safe. probably a stupid question but ehh i like to ask them. also is airbus a cargo airline company or passeger as well and do they fly in america because i havent seen any at airports and i go to jfk

Depending on how you put it. An225 is the longest plane, but Howard Hughes spruce goose has a larger wingspan. Some say the spruce goose doesn't count cause it only technically flew under ground affect but you choose
The AN-225 however is a freight plane, maybe Patronique was referring to passenger jets? And - opposed to the A380 - the AN-225 was only completed once. And btw, the AN-225 is 8.3m wider and 11m longer, but the A380 is 6m higher. AN-225 is heavier though. Let's say, the AN-225 is the biggest plane overall, the A380 is the biggest passenger jet. Everybody happy now? :)
Hate to say it, but I'm just waiting for one of these things to crash. Every loaded A380 that takes to the sky is the worlds worst air disaster waiting to happen. Perhaps even worse than Tenerife, and that was pretty fuckin' bad.
@LateNightCable Just an American anti Airbus person thats all you are! And an American who can't stand the fact that Europe has built a plane which is a massive improvement on the largest Boeing aircraft (747 Jumbo) at every single level, be it engine efficiency, fuel efficiency, flight envelope, passenger load! Sorry pal! Europe built the better machine on this one!
@MovieMad007 A380 is not a massive improvement on anything, just massive and costly. Your envy of both the 747 and my nation is apparent in the arrogance of your response. If you did your research, you'd know that Boeing is not losing any ground to Airbus, which is inherently trouble prone. In fact many carriers have canceled A380 orders for new Boeings (777 and 747). After 40+ years, the 747 remains King of the Skies in ways you'll never know... Keep sucking on that one you British prick.
@LateNightCable See Americans just cannot make an argument without resorting to obnoxious statements and abusive language! Yes Boeing is losing ground actually! So what if its got teething problems you tell me an aircraft which didn't have teething problems! If you even have the gumption to say that the 747 (all series models short and extended) did not have teething probs you are deranged! I do not envy the US in any shape or fashion! You in debt to the tune of £3 Trillion dollars!
@MovieMad007 Abusive language. You're a hypocrite who is prejudiced against Americans, you're just not saying it outright. Fueled by your obvious jealousy of our dominance. The 380 has had more than teething problems, Airbus makes inherently flawed aircraft, and the market for a 380 is not solid at all. 747 is tried and proven, that matters. And national debt is relative. The UK is 1 Trillion BP in debt and your population is nearly 1/4 of ours, so I'd say you're seriously screwed yourself.
@LateNightCable erghh not wasting my time with you matey! Right ok then do you remember about 8yrs back at the Paris Airshow the Airbus (small version) had a problem with its Fly by wire system and unfortunately the plane and its crew were lost right. Airbus and Aerospatiale have learned from that and now most airlcraft (including Boeing have included that in their systems). Right? The Airbus which crash landed in the Hudson is testament not only to the skill of the pilot but the way in which
in which the Airbus was built. Airbus have a superb history of building outstanding, strong and successful aircraft - and I know that because I have very close friends who have worked as engineers for Rolls Royce Aeroengines who supply Airbus and Boeing. If we look at the history of Chinook (built by Boeing if I am not mistaken) its safety record is just awful! 25 British personnel where killed in Northern Ireland 9 yrs back when it plummeted into a hillside killing crew, and Government people.
@MovieMad007 The Chinook is a military aircraft often flown under treacherous conditions. Therefore cannot be judged the same as a civil aircraft. But it is a proven design - still in production after nearly 50 years, and operated safely by many military forces around the world, including the RAF. The crash in that you refer to, (which was 17 years ago, not 9. And in Scotland not Ireland) occurred under dismal visibility, with fatigued pilots. It was never directly attributed to the aircraft.
@MovieMad007 The crash of AF296, which flew into trees in 1988 and claimed three lives was determined to be pilot error, even though peculiarities in the fly by wire system definitely played a part. Boeing built no comparable FBW system at that time. Most Airbus accidents have occurred under puzzling circumstances and suspected design flaws - computer and otherwise. Note the inordinate number of operational engineering bulletins issued by Airbus. Or how the tail just broke off of AA587 an A300.
@LateNightCable and besides this video is about European Airbus (and friends of mine work on this aircraft!!!!!!!!) NOT Boeing ..so I am from Britain (which is in Europe ..in case you were unsure!!) and it is my right to defend it! You coming from America have a right to defend videos on Boeing - and yes I would be in the wrong speaking out like that BUT YOU are in the wrong here not me!
@MovieMad007 For someone who says you don't want to waste your time with me, you're certainly wasting an awful lot of it here. Anyway, I don't dispute your right to defend Airbus - even though you defend it as though you were French... But I should also mention to you, that I never directly criticized the A380 just for being an Airbus. It's very large, and unproven, and there lies my reservation. I would have expressed the same reservation were it a Boeing!
@LateNightCable LOL calling me French now......no I don't think I am wasting my time because you are responding to my posts with thought out logical replies and I have no problem with that .....it was just initially maybe I was a little quick to judge! I thought (a bit sellfish this I know...) that you were just "another American" who was just going to mock Airbus or any European aircraft for being European. I didn't realise that you were making points which were shall we say only reservations
And the cross wind here was testament to the agility of the aircraft and the superb training of the Airbus pilots! So if anyone is going to "put down Airbus" on an Airbus video SOD OFF!
Britain and France for 40 years pushed the boundries of Supersonic theory and put it to the test with Concorde. Yes, it was very expensive and yes it never did actually generate enough cash to pay for itself. It did however, wow a generation - not only that we were the only countries to have a passenger jet aircraft capable of flying faster than a bullet from a gun! Concorde was banned from NYC JFK initially;officials claiming it was too noisy - WRONG it was jelousy!
It had a superb safety record - systems on board which could out-perform still, some of todays aircraft systems for example the landing gear assembly is still technically more advanced than any jet flying today! Concorde was only permanently grounded because of a fire which was caused when it was taking off from CDG Airport Paris when it kicked up a piece of FOD on the runway left by.....YES An American Airlines Boeing aircraft prior to Concorde's take-off!
What a monster of a plane! That pilot deserves a salute. I wonder though if the passengers looking out the windows noticed that they were flying almost sideways for a few seconds.
its mandatory during test flights to land with crosswinds up to 50 knots an this baby has a hughe body to challenge the winds. crosswind landings on the 737 into lhr where the most fun landings ever.
The A380 is the BIGGEST AIRPLANE in the whole world pilots have had an 3 years study only about the A380 just to fly these things, so if it has crosswinds you cant see it has double impace then just a regular plane.
@Patronique0107 Its the biggest AIRLINER in the world, the biggest aircraft of all time in the world is the Antonove AN225.... The A380 is the largest airliner, not the largest plane.
@Supershanker123 lol wrong, the biggest aircraft of all time is the Ekranoplan KM Caspian Sea Monster by the russians, or the Hindenburg if you include zeppelins (I hope I spelled it right)
And don't forget the Hughes H-4 Hercules. It has more wingspan than a AN-225 and is as high as the A380. It's made of wood, has 8 propeller engines and it can fly (did fly only a mile or two).
Specs: 66.6m long, 24.1m high and 97.5m wingspan.
@the4clusters You're right, but it is more of a hovering thing ;) an incredible one. Poor it was just a concept.
@Patronique0107 Just for the record the BIGGEST AIRPLANE in the whole world that is flying now is the Cargo Aircraft AN-225 at 290ft 2in wingspan and 275ft 6in Long. The A380 is the largest passenger airliner right now.
@Patronique0107 No, it's the largest passenger airliner in the world. The largest plane in the world is Antonov An-225 Strategic Lifter with 6! Engines.
@Patronique0107 Hello. The Airbus A380 isn't the biggest plane. It's the biggest Plane for Passenger flights. But it has planes, who are bigger than the A380, but no passenger flight :)
The Airbus A380 is NOT the biggest airplane in the world! It is the biggest PASSENGER JET, but the REAL biggest airplane in the world is the Antonov An 225.
@Patronique0107 Ever heard of the Antonov AN-225? Pilots know how to fly aircraft BIGGER than this. This is the Worlds largest passenger jet. The largest aircraft is the one I posted above. Thumbs up so the guy at the top can read this..:3
@Patronique0107 I hear ya pat. I can relate because I was married to a big old girl once. She went about 390 pounds. She had to wash herself with a washcloth tied to the end of a stick because she couldn't reach her nether-regions. There were times when the smell was unbearable. In the meantime, I want you to keep on posting useless information that you have no knowledge specifically about. Good luck in your continued struggle with literacy.
@Patronique0107 FAILURE ARSHOLE, the A380 is the 2ND BIGGEST PLANE IN THE WORLD! THE ANTONOV AN-225 IS THE BIGGEST PLANE IN THE WORLD! DO YOU RESEARCH!!!
AAwww... look at the little baby plane saying 'Are you alright?'
Anyway, I can't believe all these test pilots deliberately seek these conditions to test the aircraft. I guess it makes sure it's safe for the rest of us.
One heck of a pilot.

Very often crosswind landings work better than standard landings without crosswind - the same happens when you land in the night with papi approach.
The PIC concentrates more and therefore the landings are very often better.

Anyway, I can't believe all these test pilots deliberately seek these conditions to test the aircraft. I guess it makes sure it's safe for the rest of us.
