  • Thank you so much for making this clip. I could not be at his funeral either. I miss him and always will but then he left me words that comfort me and I will have these all the days of my life. He was my Anam Cara. I am his friend An.

  • john had a spirt who watched his transformation from living to unforgoten

1.04 in coulor on his left photo taken close to his departure time

a one way filght to forever

  • His beautiful books are an inspiration - we have lost such a gifted soul.

  • Thank you for this beautiful video! I cried so much, as I read something written by him that gave me comfort over the death of my partner, and as I wanted to find more about John O´Donohue I looked here and found that he already passed. Made me very sad. And only 52. Why did he die so young? My partner died being only 55, sudden heartstillstand. Oh God, all there is now is hope and pray...

  • I often used to wonder why a person who gifted the world the legacy of a wonderful book like the ANAMCARA had to die an untimely death at a young age of 52. After reading the hindu scriptures of the Upanishads, I understood that the soul never dies, that man lives many lives, each better than the previous. The body goes through the slow deterioration process over time. The fortunate ones are saved this experience. John is in a better place and still very much with us in his works

  • Beautiful - I have read his books - we have lost a rare and beautiful soul friend.

  • his books, words thoughts are so much a part of my life. x

  • I've just met John over the past couple days, then i see this beautiful video by one of MyFavorite People. Thanks for being You Suze...to the inner music...

  • @reliablebow Thank you so much - you're one of MyFavoritePeople also. You are an inspiration and spread joy everywhere you go. Am so very glad you discovered John's lovely and poetic body of work. He has the most beautiful spirit and has had such a positive influence in my life. You are a wonderful friend, Michael. Thank you.

  • i have only just gotten on the internet, and did wonder if my favourite man had himself a website,it seems he has many,i didnt know you had died john,it is a shock and sad.

your books, i have them here right by,always have had them close to hand, always made it so much easier to be a thoughtfull, poetic and deep thinking man, because you made it seem so ok,and in fact so exciting to be.thank you sir.god bless

  • @TheMrYoutubinman Thank you for your lovely, heartfelt comment. John O'Dononue has such a positive, loving influence in the world. He has added to the beauty of the world and his poetic beauty endures for all time. May peace, light and love always follow you ~ Suze

  • A beautiful tribute for a friend that brought inspiration, and read how much you loved your soul friend. Thankyou for sharing this video and writing. Sometimes I miss certain people too. John O'Donohue's dream lives on xo

  • @danceswithcrayons Thank you so very much for this sensitive and lovely comment. Love is our only enduring emotion that lasts past all space and time. The way I see it, John was both a gift from God and a messenger as well. I agree with you that his dream remains alive. Peace ~

  • How do we ever get over such a friend? I never knew him personally but nobody I have ever known or met has had such an impact on my life right now as John O'Donohue. I listen to him every week-end and he is a true friend that I never met but I know he is there whenever I need him. Yes, he is on the other side, TFS.

    God Bless!

    Donna

  • @PrimaDonnaCraft Thank you, Donna, for this truly lovely comment. The thing I learned after my father died in 1988 is that we don't get over people because love endures all other things. There's never a day passes without thoughts of my parents, both long gone from this world, and most days, I think of John as well. All loved ones remain alive within our hearts. May peace, love and light follow you always - Suze

  • i discovered john about a month after he passed on from our world, and hes been my mentor since. 'every heart needs beauty - its not a luxury - we need it'

john provides me with more beauty than i know how to assimilate, but i;m young....

  • @ulcanmcphetridge Thank you for this lovely comment. John O'Donohue has been one of the great influences in my life. He is not gone from the world as long as there are hearts such as yours who find him.

  • John O' Donohue was the greatest writer of his time,... what a truly beautiful human being he was...he is deeply missed.

  • Thank you for these lovely comments. John saw the world as no one else did and he wrote beautifully of his vision. I get to missing him and then am reminded that he's all around, just as he always was

  • that was just lovely... thank you!

  • Thanks so much! So very glad you enjoyed it! Suze

  • I too have only just discovered the Beauty of this great poet, philosopher, priest, and person. His voice is so beartiful and I never grow tired of hearing him. May he live long and be never forgotten.

  • Thank you for your lovely comments here. Am always so pleased when someone newly discovers the gentle beauty and wisdom of John's teachings. I'm thinking that because of his astounding poetry and writings, he will be with us always.

  • I am so grateful for this. I have just recently started to read his writings and hear his voice via his recordings. I can tell from how my heart feels at this moment that he will lead me to my next step in this life as has his friend David Whyte lead me to where I am today. Thank you. Kevin

  • Thanks, Kevin. So glad you are reading and listening to John's writings. He's had a huge positive impact on the lives of many people, and he was truly the most spiritual person I ever knew. Peace ~ Suze

  • Thank you for posting this beautiful tribute. I am blessed to know my Anam Cara. Thank you John, enjoy the rest of your journey.....peace & blessings.

  • Love your comment and I'm sure John loves it too. Thank you for stopping in. Suze

  • Wow Suze....this is most intrigueing....I must google this man...stunning images from Ireland......love to visit there..faved....

  • I'm very sad today, Richard. John died exactly two years ago today. He was such a wonderful friend and so influential in my life that I just don't have the words. I hope you do study his writings and poetry. John had a brilliant mind, and he definitely saw the world through a rare lens. Hugs.... Suze

  • Did you know him online?.....yes...I will look more into him...see message comming

  • John was very dark in a very bright way, I

wonder if not all his great joy in nature was not a cover for his dissapointement in human beings -no reflection on anyone who loved him!

    The Kid

  • Thanks so much for your lovely comments here. I never found him to be dark, only possessing of a brilliantly poetic and deeply spiritual nature. Perhaps had too much empathy for his own good at times. :)

  • I am reading the book as of now. Very inspiring!

    RIP John

  • Thank you so much for your comment. So glad you are reading this lovely book! If you can also lay hands on the original voice recordings John did by the same name, it will enrich your life immeasurably. Peace, love and light ~ Suze

  • Your beautiful tribute made me cry. I've read Anam Cara and I love it... often post quotes from it on FB... I didn't realised he had passed on... Thanks for sharing. He is deeply missed. Love & Light, Lisa

  • Hello Lisa, thank you so much for this beautiful, heartfelt comment. I agree that Anam Cara is worthy of many quotes...it's a wonderful book and if you haven't heard the audio recording in John's own voice, you're missing something truly special. :) I would miss him if he weren't so close, but I know he hasn't truly gone anywhere. Peace ~ Suze

  • Thank you so much for stopping by and for leaving a comment. Much appreciated! Glad 2009 was a good year for you.

  • Go ndéana Dia trócaire ar a anam. ♥

  • Amen! Thank you for this blessing for him.

  • Bet that was absolutely stunning! Thanks so much for dropping in and for sharing that. Suze

  • I have just yesterday heard J O'D for the first time, he was speaking about fear and told a story about an Indian man whom was sentanced to spend a night in a jail cell with a snake, which turned out to be an old rope, I was inspired by the little snippet that I heard. If someone could post a clip of this speech or could give me details regarding it I would be very grateful. Much love and peace to you all!!

  • Thank you for this lovely comment. I wish I knew where to guide you to find the speech you are looking for. Where did you hear the speech? If it was on NPR, I will need the station's call letters and approximately what time/date you heard it. Will try to help you track this down. May peace, love and light guide you always... Suze

  • Suze, thanks for your kind words, I bought myself a copy of Anam Cara and found the story J O'D was talking about. The book is an inspirational read, incidently John was from Fanore Co. Clare, which is only about 30 miles away from my home. Peace and Love.

  • So glad you found the story you were searching for...that is wonderful! It's easy to understand why John's words appeal so much to you... countrymen and of like minds! Best always... Suze

  • What a great marn ..... Beautiful to hear such exquisite words....

  • Thank you for your beautiful comments and for caring so much. That is very special and so are you!

  • This is a time of great change We are waking up.I.e we are realising just who we are.Now is the only reality.

  • A time of great change...

    waking up...

    realizing just who we are...

    now is the only reality...

You, my dear, are a true poet!

  • Thanks suzie I recognise his brilliance and at the same time his ordinariness.

  • That is so beautiful that you tapped into that. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts!

  • Was this the dude who sometimes popped up on Liveline talking about religion ?

  • Not at all sure. Don't know what Liveline is. Must be TV.... :)

  • John Donohue we are you thankyou I and others like me will carry on our work. But I suppose you already know.

  • Thanks so much for your beautiful words... so glad you stopped in.

  • Dear Suze, I had only quite recently purchased Anam Cara, and am so taken by every sentence on every page. And to find he is gone from our earthly world... I've been crying all morning. He was a mystic for our time, a Sufi-christian, embodiment of love. You are fortunate to have known him. Love and peace, Nan

  • Dear Nan, Thank you for leaving such a wonderfully personal comment! Please don't cry. As John would say ... he is just on the other side of the air. :) You obviously have great spiritual beauty and that alone will connect you to him for all time. I honestly thought I would miss him more but I've found that he had instilled such a peace inside me that it's like he's still here. Biggest hugs!! Suze

  • When I read John's book Anam Cara I felt like I was home. I knew all he spoke of...and he put it in such eloquant beautiful musical words. I didnt know he had passed. A touching tribute, God bless!! *

  • What an absolutely lovely comment you have left! John had that effect on everybody who met him. He was the most spiritual person I ever knew and also the most inspirational. He was just like his writings. I am so pleased you liked this video... Suze

  • It's probably not so odd that your friend a nd your tribute can reach across the impossible distance between now and forever. Those spaces are inside one another aren't they?I don't know you and bearly the poems of your friend but the ripples of your pebble toss into the pond of love & loss have touched my lifes own shore.

  • Hello ... thank you so much for your lovely comment. I hope you are not dealing with the loss of a loved one yourself. If you are, then John's writings and recordings would likely be of great comfort to you. John is one of those people who is a beacon in the darkest night. Thank you again, so much, for stopping by.

  • Is that you with the hummingbird video in the blue mountains?

  • Yes, one and the same... :)

  • A lovely tribute.

  • Thanks so much... it was a pleasure to do!

  • Thank you.

  • You're welcome! Thanks so much for stopping by and watching this video.

  • Suze you have a great heart,i'm proud to have a sister as you.

    Pepi

  • It means a lot that you think so, Pepi, it really does! It has amazed me and it's been so validating to have wonderful people like you take me into your circle. It makes me do better things and be a better person ... I don't understand real well how this works exactly, but that's how it feels. I love all the lowlifers... they're great friends and you're the bestest bro ever! HUGGGGS!

  • he spoke which is almost unmentionable.

    the divine

  • He belonged to himself and to the heavens in a most loving way. Thanks for your commentary.

  • Beautiful! Suze my friend you are very loving & wise God bless!!!! ~rajesh

  • Thanks so much for your lovely comments. May God bless and keep you!!!

  • Suze... it is obvious that you understand "The Light" !

    -Basement Bob

  • Fire and drums ...

  • Thanks for this, it's simply beautiful. I found John O'Donohue just days after his death (from this world), when an interview he had given was rebroadcast on CBC's Tapestry program. It was the luckiest day of life. I ordered 4 of his books immediately knowing that at last I was understood, and would now have an Anam Cara to help keep me steady and moving forward for the rest of my days. Thank you John for sharing what you knew with the world.

  • This is one of the loveliest comments ever! Thank you so much for sharing your story. Continue on your journey...you're now better armed than you were, yes? HUGS! Suze

  • Thank you Suze. Yes, I am - and a big HUG to you!

  • Entropy; the first (or 2nd) law of Thermodynamics states that energy can neither be created or destroyed, it can only be transformed from one form to another. John, your dear friend has transformed and is now enjoying what we seldom realize we all seek...eternal peace. We shall traverse life as it is dealt to us now and one day we too will have peace of mind.

  • Do you think eternal peace is just nothingness? Do you think we are still individuals and retain our memories?

  • There is such thing as peace of mind as we know it while we are alive, but that is not eternal....somewhere along the way and in time, some sort of turmoil comes into play. Our passing from this life marks the beginning of total exclusion from the two extreme opposites that has to co-exist in this universe. There is no proof of memory after death so I don't even count that in in my way of thinkong...this is not to say that you have to adopt this as your doctrine, think how you want but do good.

  • Excerpt from The Great Valerio "High up above the crowd The great Valerio is walking The rope seems hung from cloud to cloud And time stands still while he is walking His eye is steady on the target His foot is sure upon the rope Alone and peaceful as a mountain And certain as the mountain slope ..... we learn to watch together, And feed on what we see above 'Till our hearts turn like the seasons And we are acrobats of love"
  • This was an excerpt from Richard Thompson's The Great Valerio.. I'm all snarled up with trying to post the lyric excerpt as I kept getting told I was over the character limit even when I wasn't.. and had to delete parts of what I wanted to post above.. Sorry ! Please Google The Great Valerio lyrics for complete version if interested...

Feeling Grumpy with Limits --- Rainbow

  • Ahhhhh...so very beautiful!! I love the concept of these lyrical words and thank you so much for posting them here and for your comments that continue below. HUGS!! Suze

  • Suuzzee- My friend, Suki just wrote today to tell me that she and I BOTH ordered Anam Cara at approx SAME TIME (last week) without either having said anything about it to each other.. she had listened to Christa Tippet's program about John and had been planning to order a Sounds True tape of his before learning of his passing!! Perhaps all our inner Irish drops of blood and morphic field co-'memories' have been rippled and stirred by John's Departure-Arrival... so mysterious... Rainbow

  • John's life centered us and his death will also lead the way...of that I have absolutely no doubt! Will be very interesting to see what the Catholic Church does with this growing situation. You won't believe this but...the Sounds True tapes are the ones I have. Bought them many many years ago...stranger and stranger... :)

  • I'm not sure what the 'growing situation' is or refers to in re: catholic Church... where should i look to find out?? As for believing in coincidences.. I think they are the very fabric of being and we tighten our focus thru abstract intellect so much that we lose sensitivity to and/or overlook that inner river of knowing and connection so often that we are taken by surprise when an UNUSUALLY attention-grabbing coincidence piques our interest. Meanwhile untold legions of coincidence flow. R'bow

  • So many signs we miss along the way...I wonder how many it would be in a day's time if we could count them. Dogs and young children don't miss signs...I agree that the big brain gets in the way of experiencing. Some amazing studies have been done on morphic fields in dogs and cats. Are you also a writer? You certainly do it well enough to be... :) PM'ed ya on the other... Bean Blossom

  • Rupert Sheldrake's book(s)-- yes- I have had some peeks re: his morphic fields- and did see/read the book (eg) about pets... A friend introduced me to Rupert's work way back in the mid-80s .. but other than those peeks and hints I have not actually STUDIED the morphic fields matter... (there's too much more of similar/expanded interest to me [and in somewhat->considerably more accessible/readable form in Jane Roberts works]... (Seth pretty much cover 'the territory' for me!) Rainbow

  • Oftentimes when I learn about some amazing phenom like morphic fields, I deliberately don't study and research it ... ever notice how sometimes you can see things better at dusk if you don't look at them directly? It's like that... exactly. :)

  • Had a dream last night which blended an amazing web of coinklydinkly things--eg an Irish tune (Mary's Wedding) from a movie called Passed Away (which we watched the other eve).. a 21/2 story high bridge-like structure resembling (somehow?!) an umbilical cord and people from the Passed Away movie blended with yr Anam Cara standing on the bridge..plus - my friend Suki tending her 's Mom and sister-in-law trajectories like comets leaving.. wd like to tell you more somehow! How I wonder? Rainbow

  • Because of your lovely tribute to your friend I decided to order Anam Cara (it arrived today).. I had been drawn to this title several times without acting on the impulse to purchase... but now we shall feast well on John's wisdom I'm sure! Thanks.. Rainbow

  • Hope you got the recorded version so you can hear John's lyrical accounting...Anam Cara is the most spiritually satisfying thing I have every read. Everyone who met John felt the same way about him. Lovely lovely man ... I talk to him when I walk the mountain ...

  • Aaah, no, we got the book... but perhaps we shall take yr advice and add the audio to the library, too after snuggling up to read this version first... thanks! Rainbow

  • oops- forgot to sign myself as Rainbow when wrtiing abotu Jane Roberts books...

  • PS Does yr mountain have a name? (Or is it a secret??) (our nearest high thing(s) are east and west Rainy Buttes- with li'l ole Baldy Butte in between the two) Also- I'm just curious enough to ask- have you ever read any of Jane Roberts books? If I had to pick one author (or even one book of her 30 some titles) to have as my only book companion for the rest of life-- it'd be one of hers, most likely The Nature Of Personal Reality.

  • Have not read Jane Roberts but am researching her based on your recommendations. Cayce is mentioned...intriguing! My mountain...yes, it has a name but because the area is so rural, I think perhaps not to post it here...no rudeness is intended! It's just that I'm the only person who still lives here except for a very old man who lives in the shadow of the east ridge. Let's just say I'm somewhere between Lexington, VA and the TN line ... :)

  • Hi, Suze; a beautiful tribute/remembrance of your friend; the Shadowfax song I recall from listening to KEZX in Seattle in the early '80s. Finding a special place to "be" is wonderful as well; where we are now would qualify as well, tho not so remote as your location; we're in "the middle of Everywhere" as Susan (Rainbow) likes to say. I just glanced at Anam Cara this morning; I shall enjoy it immensely, I'm sure!

  • Yes, I somehow knew the mountain was meant to be private .. I think I asked to see if that hunch was correct.. but didn't mean to worry you about any intrusiveness! We all need our private mountain retreats- whether inner/outer or both directions at once!

Jane Roberts books are mentioned/acknowledged as foundational by many authors- Deepak Chopra, Marianne Williamson, Louise Hay, among others.Perhaps you will feel the instant click of recognition should you decide to explore!? Rainbow Hugs

  • If I were to have only one book companion for eternity, I would choose one of those 50-lb. coffee table books on the history of art. Or maybe a 75-lb. one ... :))

  • A wonderful tribute. What a lucky person you are to have known him.

  • Thank you so much for your lovely comment. John was a special special man, beloved by all all who knew him either in person or through his work. The world is lighter and more loving for his having been here awhile. HUGS to you!!

  • I only found out this morning he had passed, and I'm so sad. I would have liked to have met him. His writings touched me at a time I could hear no other voice.

  • Thank you for your sensitive and insightful comment...what a perfectly lovely thing to say! You have captured exactly what John did for each of us. Everyone who ever met him or read his writings just loved him because he allowed us to connect to ourselves and to the greater world around us.

  • What a beautiful tribute.. Im sure he will love it! He has a wonderful face....

  • Thanks, Nancy! I appreciate your watching and taking time to make such a sensitive comment.

  • im so sorry about your friend John.i know he`s in heaven now.this is very nice tribute for him.i know he loves it as he watches from above

  • Thank you for such a sensitive comment. It's much appreciated.

  • wow!what a beautiful song and video!has a Celtic vibe thats really cool!outstanding!!!

  • So glad you liked it, Dan. John was a Celtic mystic, very spiritual...and as close to a Druid as walked the modern earth. He influenced my thinking more than any other person in my life...he had that effect on a lot of people. I always smile when I think of him ...

  • absolutely beautiful tribute..

    *****

  • Thanks, Gerry. I appreciate your taking time to watch and comment. Always means a lot ...

  • I can't say more than everyone else has said so beautifully.I'm glad I watched your video.

  • Thanks so much, Katie! I'm glad you stopped by and hope you'll return soon ... :)

  • I've learned...That everyone wants to live on top of the mountain, but all the happiness and growth occurs while you're climbing it. I know you will miss him greatly.

    Kind regards,

    bear

  • That's a lovely sentiment, bear...truly it is! Thank you so much for stopping in and taking time to watch the video. HUGS to you!!

  • awesome video. I love contemporary celtic.

clannahan rocks. The Corrs? Thanks for sharing this. My last name is Shaw, so there I definitely have some nomadic barbarian people who fought with every other clan around them in my DNA somewhere. Ha!!

  • Thanks bunches, Jason! Our relatives may have fought along one side one another in centuries past...or maybe they tried to club one another over the head. lol Either seems entirely likely! The tune is credited in the description...it's a 1982 Windham Hill Records song by Shadowfax from their self-named CD. It's called "A Thousand Teardrops."

  • Thank you for putting this video together, I appreciate it. Loved John O'Donohue's writing very much, it helped me touch a deeper place inside. My Irish Roots have been nourished deeply from reading what is written. Kimberly Leahy

  • Thank YOU for appreciating this video, Kimberly! I also had that experience with John...of sensing the Irish side of me to be alive and well. One of my favorite stories he told was about the bushes that are allowed to grow in the middle of crop fields throughout Ireland. People don't cut them down because they believe the bushes are home to the fairies. If you cut the bushes, the fairies will leave and take their luck with them. Being a mountain farm girl, I love that!

  • Such a beautiful and touching tribute to your soul friend! Seriously -- you spoke right to my heart. namaste, cherie

  • Thank you, cheriebibo...then you have a good heart! Thanks so much for your heartfelt comments.

  • I loved it. So tranquile and pleasant. May your friend find peace in the afterlife. LOL

  • So glad you liked the video. Thanks for taking time to make a comment.

  • My pleasure.

  • You're very welcome. And DM has many good friends. I'm not always sure if the vids he sends me are to my liking because we don't always agree on some things. This is one that I am very glad he sent to me. If you would like to be friends let me know. This vid really brought out my Irish roots and reminded me that rock wasn't the only music I loved.

  • Thank you, Ray. What a sweetie you are! I appreciate the honesty and sincerity of your comments. Have found that many times I learn the most about myself from the very people that I don't agree with. Go figger, huh... :) Am glad DM sent the video to you also because now I've met you! Would be glad to be friends and have sent a request your way. IMHO...all music has merit even if it's not the style we prefer...all music is painted on silence... HUGS to you! Suze

  • Hugz back sweetie. I accepted your invite though i should have been in bed 3hrs ago. have a good nite and let me know if there's anything I can do for you.

  • This was very touching and your friend must be loved by many from the way he has touched your heart an soul I'm sure theirs many thats left behind with pain with in their heart for the lost of this great man!! DMARKETTE sent me

    xoxo Fran

  • Thank you, Fran. I appreciate your kindness and am so glad DMARKETTE sent you. I encourage you and everyone in this modern, hectic world to get some of John's works and either read or listen what he says. He truly speaks to the deepest longings within each of our hearts. HUGS!!! Suze

  • May the road rise up to met you. That is so beautiful. Loved it so much it brought tears to the drought plagued eyes of my heart. Thank you for making this, I know without a doubt he does to.

  • Your words brought tears to my eyes! Thank you so much for this sensitive, insightful response. Am sure John appreciates it ... but in truth, he'd probably rather I had brought him a glass of good Scotch whiskey! :))

There is no end to eternity.

You honor John with your beautiful video. My family name is the same. We are from Ireland too. Thank you so much. Liz

  • That's a very beautiful sentiment, Lori... holding is how it feels, exactly. So glad you were touched by the video and took time to share your thoughts...truly appreciated.

  • I'm very sorry for your loss. We should all be so fortunate to have such influence in our lives. Treasure the memories, and never forget the times you shared.

    Thank you for sharing.

  • Thank you for your sensitive comments...very much appreciated. John always said that "endings seem to lie in wait" for us, which is a profound truth. He was a very spiritual man, a Celtic mystic and as close to a Druid as walks this earth today. He is a magical and inspiring presence to everyone who ever dealt with him. I was thinking about attending his next retreat... what a loss this is for us all. I never could wait to see what he would come up with next... :)

  • Suze... it is touchable video... and I hardly belive in these words... "nothing is ever lost or forgotten"... this what has deepest and most beauty meaning lives in us... in our hearts and souls forever... being simply a part of us... people whose we met in life and have meant a lot for us always have their place in our hearts also... they live there... by all our feelings and remembrances... I read the poems... are deep and so meaningful... Warmest hugs Suze!!! Joanna

  • Thank you, Joanna...you are always so kind and wise. Am so glad I know you! I cannot tell you how much this wonderful man has meant to me over the years. To know him was to have your life changed forever...it was that simple. And my experience was not unique nor was I any more special to him that everyone else he met. He made each person feel so important and special, like you were the only one that mattered. Everyone I know had the same response to him.

  • Stunningly beautiful tribute. You have allowed me to feel some of your love for this man. Thank you, -Dennis

  • Thanks for your comments, Dennis.

John O'Donohue is my heart. He has stunning insights into the workings of the world and has influenced me more than anyone else in my lifetime. I had not spoken with him for several months and he was in good health...his death came as a complete shock to everyone.
