  • sinestro wasnt killed by Hal...It was illusions

  • I didnt know lanterns could curse

  • I can catch up on my latern mythology

  • It's a "Big Fucking Sun" LOL!!!

  • I would have had it that he found out about Ion and Paralax etc in issue of the old series 127 battleground OA when he was imprisoned in the battery. What do ya think?

  • Two videos pointing out how wrong Hal was while Kyle comes across as sagely. Youre trying to make him totally at fault when the stories PROVE he was being used by Parallax. But ypure saying he passed the blame like he was some worthless scoundrel.

Not much of a Hal fan are you? WHy do you hate Hal so much you want to make him fully at fault? Johns made a perfect way out, but no, that wasnt good enough for you was it? This video is all just to justify your hate for Hal isnt it?

  • I'm a huge Hal fan. I have every single one of his appearances beginning with Showcase #22. I maintain that the development that came of Emerald Twilight -- even if the story *itself* might have been lacking -- was nothing but positive for the character.

  • But you make Hal into a monster. I mean everything done in these vids of your makes a ton of sense and works like clockwork, but still it makes Hal into this evil being. The damage is still not really repaired in your version of the universe, the comics on the other hand have been slowly trying to move beyond and heal the damage that Ron Mars caused.

That said, I must admit this is well done and very interesting take, I've watched it a number of times.

    Thanks!

  • Except the Geoff Johns version has continuity holes large enough for Mongo to fly through: Yalan Gur, WillWorld, Gathnet's Tale, the GL battery being destroyed ("The Last Testament Of Sinestro!") much of Action Comics (including Lord Malvolio), and Emerald Dawn II. As much as I like the Geoff Johns version there is just too much wrong to get it to work.

  • i grew up reading kyle as GL...no offense to Hal fans but DUDE??? stay dead or the spirit of vengence or something your GL days are over god damint!!! LET GO!!!

  • And how can that possibly NOT be taken as an offense?

You little Kyle fans are so fucking selfish. For eight years I put up with your ilk saying "No Hal or Corps, Kyle and Kyle only, Their time is OVER". Even when Hal fans expressed willingness to let Kyle co-exist with Hal and the GLC, all we got was "No, Kyle only!" We lost our favorite heroes just so you little bastards could have yours. Dont you FUCKING tell me "Let it go"

So no offense, but SHOVE IT up your ass sideways without lube.

  • WHY the fuck are u getting so angry???

i never sed i hated Hal, i jst hate having fuckwits who cant let go of the past incessantly protest against a characters progression...Hals sacrifice as parallax was honourable and his time as spectre mite not have been the best....but him becoming a GL again that was BS! it makes all his past transgressions mean shit. Why dnt we jst bring back Barry Allen while we are at it!!! SO NO Offense but "LET IT GO!" and i aint a "Kyle Only" fan, im a GL fan!

  • In fact... yes, you are right...

I really like Hal Jordan as a character, I like the stories where he is involved, and I really love Geoff John's story about his origin, and the idea of Parallax was great. But I prefered Hal as the greatest Lantern who became crazy after lost his home, his city. And, after he realized that he was wrong, and sacrificed for the Earth, he became the new Spectre. I liked that way. That made Hal more human, but well. Everything changes, everythin returns. Who cares?

  • I liked that way too. Thank you for watching. If you liked this two parter, you will probably like the arc in Episode 16, 18, and 19.

  • Hey Kyle Hal's back, get over it. We all wanted him back to. Deal.

  • great theories, when are you planning write some Green Lantern stories? Big fan of your work by the way.

  • Way cool. Interesting theories.

  • There were 6 Green Lanterns from earth:

    1-Alan Scott the original.

2-Hal Jordan the most famous, and most powerful who later became evil after being possesed by parallax & destroyed the GL corps and killed all the guardians except Ganthet.

3-Guy Gardner the Lead GL Honor Guard commanding all GL's on earth and off.

    4-John Stewart the African American.

    5-Kyle Rayner the Mexican.

6-Jade the Female GL, daughter of Alan Scott the Original GL.

  • kyle rayner the mexican? more like kyle rayner the best and strongest green lantern ever

  • Parallax can also attach itself to peoples souls. As it did to Hal when he went Evil. It can remain dormant and undetectable for a long time. It also did it to Kyle and at one time Sinestro.

  • This takes place after Kyle's Parallax time. And -- for the purposes of the story -- makes the revelation that "Parallax the Living Incarnation of Fear" was created by Hal during Zero Hour when he remade the universe to retroactively take the blame for his actions.

  • I always thought that DC was corny. Sounds like some deep stuff is going on in the GL books. My comic budget is a challenge to maintain; to take on title with such an extensive history would impoverish me.

Fuck it, where do I begin?

  • Begin with The new GLC (Green Lantern Corps) series Than Re-read The old JLA books from the late 90's also Find More info on Kyle Rayner. I can start you are that for a decade, He was the Last green Lantern. Find out how Hal Jordan Came back and How superman-prime (Cough "super-bitch" prime) Read the new sinestro corps as well

Oh and one more thing: "Welcome to the corps"

  • I just finished reading "Re-Birth", and I hadn't read GL in years! (...or more!)

Anyhow, "Re-Birth" has awesome illustration and will spin you up on a lot of what's happening in GL storyline, plus resolve a few things.

I'm going to take my time reading the back stories, but will probably get to them eventually.

Note the fan-made GL trailer by sector1014 got me back into reading GL, it's on YouTube as "Green Lantern The Movie".

  • Oa and Kiliwog were brought back in the "last will and testament of Hal Jordan" Story.

  • Oa was, Kilowog wasn't brought back until a few issues later, when Kyle rescued Kilowog's soul from his race's afterlife.

  • Wow! Looks like a couple of fanboys are upset over a retcon... :-( Try being a Superman fan...

    (yeesh...)

  • I hear you. If you're referring to the people behind the episode, though, you're wrong. It just seemed pretty topical, and otherwise can just be chalked off as being "for fun." A what if.

  • Part 3 is way better.

  • And yet no one except you and the guy who made this video cares about that.

And actually Hal was wearing a ring, several actually.

  • Not when he entered the battery.

  • Nevermind Hal was not wearing a GL ring when he went crackers. Go to google and look through the rec.arts.comics.misc archives. Emerald Twilight (Emerald Toilet in many posts) and Rebirth have continuity problems out the wazoo and MANY people complained about them. Deal with it.

  • Continuity should be fluid, not fixed. Otherwise you end up in a fucking hole creatively.

  • Continuity should not be fluid to the point MAJOR points of development are thrown out the window. Emerald Twilight and Rebirth did that in spades. The battery had already blown up once and yet why Parallax chose to stick around waiting for the Guardians to rebuild the thing so it could cause Hal to go crackers is never explained. This was no minor plot point but something that ran for YEARS.

  • It didn't wait around, it was contained in earths sun and then KYLE freed it accidentally when he became Ion. Read the Hand of god Storyline from Vol.3 and it's explained. That little peice of Parallax was in the Ion Core, the one he took from Nero.

  • Wait, what? I don't recall Kyle freeing the Parallax symbiote when he became Ion the first time... or any explanation to this end.

  • Re-read green lantern 141-148, secret files # 3 qnd GL rebirth.

  • And you need to reread ever mind that it ignored what Post-Crisis continuity there was (Yalan Gur saga, Gathnet's Tale, Lord Malvolio story aka Action #632-#635, WillWorld, and Emerald Dawn II and see why Green lantern 141-148, secret files # 3 and GL rebirth are all talking nonsense. You can't say continuity, doesn't matter and then cite books because THAT'S CONTINUITY. :-P

  • You know your stuff. :)

  • Yep, I am a long GL fan. I personally hold to the idea that somehow Lord Malvolio was involved in the whole mess. Lord Malvolio could internalize his power just like Parallax and his power worked against yellow just like Kyle's ring later would. Also it was Lord Malvolio's ring that Gathnet remade into Kyle's which promptly went off and created Oblivion.

  • It doesn't matter because the Battery on Oa blew up the first when the GLC killed Sinestro long BEFORE Kyle became Ion. Furthermore Kal was NOT wearing a GL ring when he went nuts so Parallax couldn't be effecting him!

  • Except this creates the problem of Sinestro stating Parallax was in the BATTERY not in the sun. Reread Rebirth where Sinestro reveals where he met Parallax. Also Kyle became Ion AFTER Hal went crackers so where was Parallax when the battery blew up the FIRST time? (second time was when Hal blew it up as Parallax).

  • So what if Hawkman started out as a reincarnated egyptian Prince and then became an alien police officer from the Planet Thanagar? What does that have to do with telling a good story. Nothing.

  • The Post-Crisis Pre-ZH LSH, who cares? The editor and writer decided to try something else. It happens all the time in entertainment, you want to keep the property going but some of the ideas no longer reflect the times, you change them.

  • The problem was that to address all the winging it the Pre-ZH Hawkman's history became nearly as convoluted as Jean Grey's and gave anybody trying to figure out the character a major headache. The fact that Hypertime (which allowed editors and writers to basically ignore continuity) did a major crash and burn should tell you something.

  • No the reason hypertime didn't work was because it was trying to explain the existence of Elseworlds tales. They felt the need to make it part oof the existing DCU which it diodn't need to be. That's how much of a crutch sticking to a fixed continuity can hamper storytelling.

  • Hypertime wasn't trying to explain the Elseworlds tale but rather how you could have alternate timelines ala Armageddon 2001 in the post-ZH DCU ("It's ALL true."- Mark Waid) That DC used an Elseworlds title to introduce and explain Hypertime is irrelevant. What its function was is what is important.

  • this story makes absolutely no sense.

  • And the one DC wrote does? lol

  • Actually yeah it did. Making Hal still be Parallax, orchestrating his return and the return of everyone else doesn't make sense because it negates Hal's entire personality. Hal Jordan was always a flawed man but when it came down to it he knew the difference between right and wrong. wholesale lying is wrong. THe actual comic makes much more sense because corruption of the soul, possession makes more sense. Especially since Kyle was Parallax as well recently.

  • Emerald Twilight not only negated Hal's entire personality but had the Guardians act like idiots as well never mind that it ignored what Post-Crisis continuity there was (Yalan Gur saga, Gathnet's Tale, Lord Malvolio story aka Action #632-#635, WillWorld, and Emerald Dawn II for the short list)

  • The biggest problem with the Parallax thing in the battery is that Hal was NOT wearing a GL ring when he went crackers but Lord Malvolio's which worked on yellow. Furthermore the Yalan Gur saga, told shortly after Crisis, showed the Guardians could change the weakness of a GL's ring invalidating the whole Parallax in the battery idea.

  • Let's not forget about how the GL Kyle created in the Ciricle of Fire saga still had a problem as did the time traveling Hal despite using Kyle's battery to recharge. Face it, the Parallax parasite idea has more holes than this does.

  • This video still sucks and makes zero sense. Continuity is a crutch that should be fluid and changed to suit the creator.

  • Continuity is NOT a crutch. Too many times I have seen that used as an excuse for writing that would make Bonzo the Chimp look like Shakespeare. Post-Crisis Pre-ZH LSH, Hawkman, Marvel's Spiderman, and Civil War are all examples of where not following continuity resulted in a botched up mess.

  • A writer should not be hampered by the crappy storytelling of the past if it makes for a great story in the present. Strories need the room to manuever, in order to evolve the art form. I couldn't give a shit if continuity matches up exactly and I shouldn't have to beholden to using story elements which, particularly in Hawkman for example, just didn't work.

  • I would hardly call Gathnet's Tale, WillWorld, and Emerald Dawn II "crappy storytelling". Furthermore the whole Parallax thing ignores that fact that shortly after Crisis the GL battery blew up. Why didn't Parallax escape THEN? As Kyle says in the video the Parallax story in the comics has too many holes and inconstancies.

  • Never read any of those, couldn't careless about it, shouldn't be beholden to it.

  • Sorry that is the whole point of Continuity.

  • 5 million stars!

  • Awesome work, dude! Keep it up!

  • I'm just gald the Highladner score is geting to be used in something that doesn't suck, lol.

  • nice
