this was in every way out, the first few steps that bell took for the "4th run" confirm that he was first thinking of running, then his mind tells him okay, let's go for tea, so he stops and then starts a casual walk to the park. that's not how you do it. What sportsmanship are you people demanding from India? morgan was indicating bell to go back, but bell had his own ideas. Unfortunate for India that the whole "be a sport theory" came to hit them. BELL YOU WERE OUT
The umpires body language suggested to both Bell and Morgan that tea had been taken. He was handing the sweater back to the bowler, and if he thought the ball was still alive, he wouldn't have done that, because he was inadvertently making the no ball signal. Good sportsmanship by Dohni.
@ParubalouMan - First of all kudos to England! You deserve to be number 1 .
Bell is NOT a cheat. He played well and just on an excitement to go for tea and make it quick he simply committed a mistake. Thats it. The decision was reversed simply to prevent the unnecessary chasm in the relationships between the two camps.
there was no question of touchdown.....it is clear that Bell was going for a fourth and Morgan stopped him mid-way because the latter thought that it was four already. It is clearly the mistake of Bell and Morgan. But no harm done, as he was out after adding only 22 more runs. India had lost the match even before that incident. Congrats England, but we will ressurge in Third and Fourth match of series.
This is primarily an umpiring mistake - the Umpires should remain in place until they are sure the ball has exited play, but it is also Bell's fault as he admits he assumed the ball was out of play and left his crease. It's out by the laws of the game and the only people to blame are the Umpires and Bell.
Even the umpire at the bowlers end is waiting to hand over the sweater back to the bowler. If the ball was in play he should be standing side on of the wicket to judge a run-out. Dhoni thought he could pull a fast one and was found out. End of story! Instead of being called a cheat he quickly reversed the decision so that he could in fact be called a "sportsman".
bell is such a ididot after playing cricket fr so long he dont know the rules properly,n england fans like always started behaving like babies.england players r bunch of idiots .well in hindi they r chuts
Dhoni knew to start with that bell had no intensions of taking a run.. so dhoni shouldnt have appealed to start with lack of sportmanship frm indian side.....
@203jay I absolutely agree with you, it's all Dhoni's fault in the very beginning, being the smart guy he is, I'm sure he knew Bell wasnt going for the 4th run, and then they were trying to hide it all through the so called 'sportmanship' from the Indian team later on, thats pathetic
@amitnelluvely Noone is arguing over the rukes.. but as a sportman u should respect the other players and try not to b skanky.. which dhoni was obviously being.. again since dhoni and the whole indian team knew that he just walked for tea break and not to take a run they shouldnt have appealed.. So again lack of sportmanship frm indian side. and the only reason the reversed the decision was coz they being hammered by the crowd and they knew that they would last an hour
No excuses for Ian Bell, it's very much his mistake, he's just lucky that India agreed to recall the appeal. It's absolutely the batsmen's responsibility to make sure the over is complete and the ball is dead. Eoin Morgan does exactly the right thing, holding up his arm, directing Ian Bell back, then grounding his own bat as he appears to look to the umpire. That's what Bell should have done and he didn't. His mistake. FFS, this isn't a weekend social game, it's international test cricket.

Watch the umpire start getting the jumper ready as if the end of the over had come.

@203jay its not just about the "intentions" of the batsman to take the run. He needs to stay in until the over is called. Basic rules.

Bell should have been punished for his laziness. Good sportsman spirit shown by Dhoni though.
