  • This song was number one the year I was born. I remember listening to it on the radio.

  • I Guess for Decades, I thought I was Dead. But all the Rock-In-Roll is STILL ALLIVE -- And So AM I ! Ha! Ha!

  • the buckinghams do the best cover

  • Love this!!!!

  • I'm reading the Fats Domino biography, "Blue Monday", and just read that although not credited, he played piano on this record and got paid session price for it $50+. He was under contract, so not allowed to do so, but he wanted to enjoy playing with his friends and backing Lloyd. Love this music! Always thought Fats was the best from the first time I heard one of his records, when I was 12 or 13.

  • I thought this song was from '55 (newer than '52). What other songs were comparable to this hit?

  • @MrGotsquashed Fat's Domino's "the fat man", Smiley Lewis's "i hear you Knockin".

  • I thought this song was from '55 (newer than '52). What other songs were comparable to this hit?

  • Thanks for posting this. It's so important to remember where Rock and Roll came from.

  • I couldn't even find this for all the Elvis Presley versions. This is the original. Thanks. ORIGINAL!

  • I get really frustrated when people say Elvis was just a ripoff artist. If you read any biographies of him or interviews, he makes sure to always stress his background and that he loves the originals and the music he grew up listening to influenced him greatly. This song is so badass.

I can't believe nobody got all up in arms over a girl who like to "ball"!

  • @glortw I agree about Elvis. Elvis was not a rip off artist, he truly loved black artists. He was nowhere near a Pat Boone who WAS a rip off artist. Bill Haley is another white artist like Elvis who truly loved the music.

  • I always thought the Larry Williams version was the original.

  • The original and best version. Thanks.

  • that's a good version

  • Can anyone tell me if a movie has been made of lloyd and if not.....WHY THE HELL NOT!?!??

  • AWESOME LLOYD PRICE!! THNX FOR SHARE!!! RESPECT!!!!

  • The Original in essence...

  • check this version too! tUmIpRB0Fi4

  • I think Elvis liked Black music you can even see it in his gospel singing.Elvis by singing the black songs and he was good at it made money for him self AND the black singers who also wrote the songs.Little Richard and many other black singer/writers were aware of this except Chuck Berry who i admired as a singer and guitarist but had a racial chip n his shoulder.

  • @buddimack thats the thing, many of the songwriters were never credited and got no money.

  • Mr. Peabody's has multiple copies of this album on vinyl. Good place! Western Ave. Chicago, IL. Lawdy miss Clawdy also is not on Mr. Personality.

  • I grew up listening to this song, my father and Mr. Price and his brother grew up together and they were always closer than family to us... When ever I start thinking of my father ( may he r.i.p.) I can listen to these old songs and feel his presence around me. Much love to you Uncle Leo and the family, my sis and I owe you a visit!! :)

  • @lilmoesmom GREAT STORY.those were the days

  • who ever was the two who dis-liked this original version..is two sad people.

  • Love this guy from Lobell ,La. :)

  • elvis love this song and the r and b music. He never stopped. He once said god made two mistakes,i'm not black and i'm not a bass singer

  • SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO GOOD SOOOOOOO COOL.LOVE IT,THANX A MILLION.THIS GUY WAS DA MAN MAN.

  • This is not !! the original version with Fats Domino on the piano.

  • Awesome. Thanks not only for posting but also for great historic background. Wish more people had your smarts. Jerry

  • It's enjoyable to watch & listen to Lloyd Price's explanation to his induction in to the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame in 2009. He shares that after he recorded this song, he was paid $50, which was a HUGE amount at that time! Check it out - you'll surely enjoy it, too!

  • I can't imagine anyone not liking this song reguardless of who's singing it.....Elvis and Lloyd both did an awesome job!!

  • I visited Mr. Domino this week in N.O., and he told me the story. He came by the studio when Lloyd P. was recording, but they wasn´t satiafied with the pianoplayer. The bandleader ( I think it was Bartholomew ) asked Fats to step in. First he said no, but after a while he sat down and played. And I think Lloyd Price was pleased, and the fans the same !! Long live Fats Domino !!!!

  • @gullhjertet how fortunate you are to have met and spoken with the legend himself

  • Fats Domino on the piano.

  • Love him. love him!! I was a little kid in the 50's and I fell inlove with him. I would love to see him someday. He is terrific!!!!

  • Fats Domino play piano, and Herb Hardesty sax on this record !

  • @gullhjertet wow, that's explains alot. For some reason whenever I would hear this song, either Lloyd or Elvis' version, I would always think of Fats Domino. Now I know why.

  • If there were a musical coming to New Orleans about Lloyd Price, how many people would be interested in doing to see it?

  • @badace23

There is one in the works-Ridgefield

  • My mom met Lloyd last night & got his autograph on his book.He is really nice.

  • It's a shame more singers like Mr. Price don't get the full respect and credit for the inspiration they provided to other artists that covered their wonderful songs. Lloyd is one of a kind!!

  • Again Merritt Dalton Lead Sax man on this cut!

  • From the city of Arica in Chile, Our love to Lloyd!!!!!!!!

  • Who can teach music to this Guy, when Look, he knows more than Elvis!!!! Arica, CHILE

  • I've have many Lloyd Price records but I haven't heard this one before. Thanks for posting it on YouTube.

  • i love this, hes amazing.

  • Lloyd was one of the most exciting recording artists in history.

  • I'm so glad Lloyd Price's original is on YouTube. It's great to hear the version that inspired Elvis to record his classic version.

  • @donn409

Absolutely. Elvis was certainly the king in many ways, but he does not deserve the creds for this. L.P. does.

  • @SouthsideChi1986 I wont argue with you because I love Lloyd Price as well. He was one of the most exciting performers of all-time with songs like this one and "STAGGER LEE".

  • awesome

  • this isn't the original lloyd price version. this is a later version. the original is much better.

  • Surely this is a remake recorded in the '60s and not in 1952. The original, I would surmise, is here: watch?v=mgv2V0sZ6uY

  • Got to see Lloyd Price in 1959 in a Brooklyn Theater review put on by Alan Freed. He did this song and several others.

  • The year before my birth. I enjoy his music!

  • Comment removed

  • the often told story is that white people would come into record stores in New Orleans to buy "Lawdy, Miss Clawdy" for their black maids or butlers, but they were actually buying it for themselves

  • wow, i didnt think it would be this good, i can see elvis loving this song and why he wanted to record it

  • I really like lloyd price. you can almost kindof hear elvis and where hed take this song. i really wish i couldve lived in the 5s and 60s hahaha. seems like the best music to date

  • I'm glad you like both...some racist like to put down the R&B songs and singers Elvis liked.

  • @oramikleepunk yes this is real r&b

  • @oramikleepunk ......more so, uneducated idiots like to put down Elvis and say he ''stole'' rather than just simply see that he was greatly influenced these artists, and the bulk of them would be forgotten about a long time ago had Elvis not sung there song

  • @ccasia2008 And we in America love slope head, chink food! It is delicious!

  • Elvis Presley loved this track. He recorded it in 1956 and would later sing it on stage regularly in the 1970s without changing the style. He never forgot his foundation. Thanks for posting this brilliant piece along with the superb background info.

  • I was quite young when this was released. It was an instant hit in my South Carolina hometown. It sounds as good now as it did then. What a beautiful voice, and what a handsome man.

  • lloyd Price is the man. Someone post Your picture still sits on my table!

  • I love everything Lloyd ever did. I have a cd of his that I love. I also have it in vinyl. thanks for posting this

  • Lloyd Price's version is the king of them all....Great song to do the Stroll.

    Lloyd rocks.

  • Awesome this is the biz love old r & b.

  • To: MichaelCobb Those were some good times. I am sure there are many others who can remember those days. Would be interesting to hear what they have to say. Me andmy buddy purchases a 1949 Mercury from an older lady over in Anacostia for about $150 and that was ourmode of travel all over southern Md. If that car could talk, what stories you would hear. Route 5/301 was a 2 lane road. Slots were legal in parts of Md. then. Your Mom's barn could certainly have been one that I was in.

  • When I ran across this song, I was reminded of the times we used to party at Carrs beach and the Tobacco Warehouses in Southern Maryland in the 50's to Lloyd Price and many more of the stars then.

  • That's interesting. I was just in a tobacco barn behind my mom's old, and sadly delapidated, family house in Upper Marlboro, MD. Those must have been some good times!

  • Oh and the old house is called Chelsea!

  • Is it true that Fats Domino is the piano player on this song?

  • yes...Fats plays piano on the original version...not this one.....

  • The original and best, obviously, even tho Presley's version is great too.

  • Extraordinária interpretação, entretanto, a de Elvis Presley continua sendo a melhor de todas, inclusive de todas de Elvis.

  • The root of Elvis Presley!!!

  • Love that style!

  • what a fucking amazing songwriting genius,lloyd..you monk of men, men of monk.

    i love ye.

  • excellent!!!
