i read in a few places that these are the closest you can get to the john mayer sig strat pickups without paying out the ass to some douche on ebay selling for $600. would you agree, or know anything about it?
I trying to get a SRV tone but not be a carbon copy.I want his tone as my basis to build on.would you recommend these instead of texas specials?Any other suggestions please let me know.
man, i'm impressed. i recorded this afew years ago and you are the first person to pick up on that. l feel like i should give you a prize or something! nice one man...
Sweet guitar dude. I hope to get myself a Fender someday when I can afford it...But anyway, I was wondering, I have a strat with a bridge that doesnt move with the trem arm, do you know how to make it move? Thanks
I have an original 1968 Strat in Olympic White (now Yellow),exactly the instrument this is trying to copy...Very nice job. What happened to the tremolo arm?
It looks like it has a metal tip in the pictures...The original tremolo arms were almost totally straight. I broke mine off in the block when years ago and my guitar technician got it out,but I have had to use the later replacement tremolo arms that are slightly bent...Does yours actually have the white plastic tip and the pictures are fooling me? I might get one of these to play in public since my original is worth a little over $10,000 the last time I checked the Vintage Guitar Buyer's Guide:)
i used to snap standard fender trem arms all the time. this is made of chrome plated bell brass. had it for 3 years and ithasnt even bent in the slightest. i'm not kiddin man, before igot this, iwas snapping about 3 or 4 a year.ell spotted brother.
I don't have any video equipment...I've never posted a video online before. It is a maple neck,Olympic White originally which became a dark yellow from 30 years of cigarrettes and age...I stopped snapping the bars when I really worked with my technicians to set it up the way I like it. I use 4 springs and only two screws for the bridge-just the top and bottom screws. I cut the tops of the other screws and used epoxy to glue them over the holes in the bridge...Works perfectly!
i have a 60's jap strat love it so much i sold my 90's american strat they kick some serious but and mine still has stock pickups by the way gorgeus guitar!
flatwound are usually for Jazz aren't they? Give you a mellower sound and don't give you that scratchy noise that you can get when moving around the fretboard
to me, it all sounds like nit picking, when compared to what the blues came from. do you think robert johnson gave a 2 nobs of goat shit how his strings were wound? just play what you got. the feeling is in you, not what strings are on your guitar. i dont even know what the fuck flatwound is. a string is a string. the blues is the blues.
This is an MIJ '68 reissue, right? I have a Fender Custom Shop '69 relic reissue in vintage white (sick color) and it's INSANELY nice but I also a MIJ '68 reissue in black maple. The MIJ, I have to admit, is very well made and is in par or better than a lot of the regular Fender factory stuff. If the finish were nitro or a tad thinner it would be as good as a USA strat (if it had better pots). The pups are decent but I swapped 'em for Dimarzio Area 58, Pro 54 and virtual solo. A Callaham bridge
yeah its a mij 68. my dream guitar is the 69 maple neck in black tho. yeah these 68's are beautifuly made, but i just wish the neck was a bit thicker. i have big hands. i put usa 70's pick ups in this and i put the 69s in my 70's usa strat, coz thats my main strat and these pick ups sound so awsome.
I sure like to have a second strat that looks just like yours, so that one of them will use 10's and the other will use 11's with a different tuning. I'm curious on how your strats are wired? There is a lot of talk on what caps to use on the neck tone control? 0.1uf, 0.047uf, or 0.022uf?
Oh okay. Just a couple of hours ago, I've just rewired my Highway One Strat. The CS69 pups are still on backorder and it may still be that way for awhile. There are a few websites that may have them in stock, but most I've seen are still listed as backorder. I went ahead and rewired by replacing the greasebucket circuit and use only only capacitor, and that is the 0.047uf. It plays great. The rewiring was a bitch but now future modification will become easier.
I'm beginining to understand more about the greasebucket circuit. now because I can hear some differences. I still don't understand the hype about the phrase, "roll off the highs without adding bass". I just think the greasebucket circuit just makes the guitar sound sweeter. Nothing bad about that, but once I have changed it, I don't want to go back.
I got a good recomendation for those who want to rewire their Highway One Strat: Have plenty of 1st strings to run simple test. I've wasted a whole new set of pure nickel strings when I found out I wired it wrong.
I did a typo. I've used only one capacitor and rewired to a more standard type of strat. I've been at this for a month and I finally went and did it. Strat parts are still plenty and affordable. If I goof up, no big deal. Strats are made to Hot Rod.
mate, i dont know anything about rolloff or grease bucket or circuts 0.47 uf. all i know is how to play guitar. i can change strings and set action, but all that other shit is like another language to me. i think you shouldnt worry to much about your capasitors and other shit like that and just play your intsrument. just let you guitar make music. all the capaistors in the world wont make you a better player...unless they are some kind of finger steriod...
I've know what you mean weavzy. It's the internet's fault. I've shouldn't have bothered to learn all about the guitars history and how they evolved and why they are different, but I've couldn't affored to trust the salesperson and be happy not knowing that there are better guitars and better deals and what to look for. I would rather waste my time on researching than to have "buyers remorse". I'm just old fashion guy. It's like wanting a car with a better engine.
for a set of three...it's kind of hard to find in stores near ME but iunno about you. GREAT pickups though. it's really worth your investment. :) hope this helps
god I love your stratocasters :) i'll probably go first for the MIM ones, I don't have nearly enough money for americans....and great playing, sound, all that funky, blusey, hendrix, wah stuff :)
i really cant remember. i recorded this about 4 years ago and i used to smoke A LOT of weed! especialy during the the time i recorded this. it might have been a fuzz face. or it might have been a boss ds-1. or something else. damn my pot smoking past!!
it IS a beauty, no doubt. I'm looking for one myself. too bad they off centeres the little decal underneath. I guess it was to set it aprt from USA series ?
dont know what the reasoning behind it is. not many people notice it. it wouldnt take much for them to fix. i found it very annoying at first but like i said - its a sweet guitar. i;ll get a 69 custom shop reissue one day. they have the correct decal....oneday...
Beautiful..I have a reissue with the big headstock on it and the 69 Fender Custom Pickups and it sounds like butter. I find with strats you have to modify them according to what you like and how you like it. Thanks for posting. I'm putting 69 P/Ups in my lefty strat as well.

I have one of these. Mine is a heavy relic sunburst.
The 1/4 sawn neck rings and projects extremely well and the hand wound Abbies are the best Fender single coils I've heard.
I wouldn't sell my 68 Custom Shop for $20K.

MyManDan 2 years ago
There is a YouTube video that introduces the Fender new Highway One Upgrade.
It explains what the greasebucket circuitry is. It's really made up of two capacitors and a resistor on both tone controls, and I don't like them.
Here it is: Fender Highway One guitars
