  • Good job- paid 120 bucks for a new cable on my wifes Venture Van at a typical parts store. Did it quicker than you but cost 12 times as much!

  • imagine that a chevy being repaired

  • @xBloodfatherx hahaha right....

  • Thank you so much for your video!! I used a ziptie and it worked like a charm.

  • Thanks had this exact problem this helped a lot.

  • i have a hose clamp tightened down to hold mine in... now i have to try this trick.... thanks for the help!

  • it really sucks that GM does not sell that crommet. this is such an easy fix. to replace the whole linkage is not a fun way to spend your day off.

  • what did you use to cut the rod end off with.? its pretty tight in that area.

  • How did you get the grommet off of the cable while it was still in the car? I have this exact problem and need a fix by tomorrow with little to no money. Thanks.

  • @danekellum GO TO JUNK YARD, CUT END OF CABLE OFF , BRING HOME CUT IT OUT..BE CAREFULL.

  • Awesome man thanks! This was a big help! I used a ziptie until I got get the gromet.. It took 5 minutes to ziptie it if you guy experience it.. It seems pretty common.. Also works for a 2001 Pontiac Sunfire!

  • WOOOW ... thats exactly what i need ... the mechanics (which i know and are "friends" with ) want up to 175$ to fix it (ussually in NY is around 300$)... around 80$ the cable to order from dealer ... but after seeing this video .. i think mechanics sometimes are overpaid .. cuz even i can fix it ... so thank you for the video .. keep up the good work and ... howdy ...

  • @sergiuchirita17 Im glad I was able to help, Thank you for watching.:-)

  • THANK YOU!! $12 at the junk yard later... shifts good as new..

  • I used two ziptie and an O ring to hold the thing in place, the feeling is a smoother shift, but I think I should replace with the original gromet.

    what do you think ?

  • @100karpol yes, replace with the gromet ,but the ziptie will work temporary, just be careful when stopping & make sure positive its in park before you walk away, & use park break .be safe

  • Exactly what I needed !!

My gromet broken 3 weeks ago, since then I break my head how to repair the cable on low budget. The only thing I need now is to found a junk yard with cavalier ;-)

    Bye from Israel

  • @100karpol until you find it use the rubberband.:-)

  • @Luna7ick

Would this be the same kind of fix for a 97 5spd Sunfire?? i was told that the transmission linkage cable is broken and GM wants like 300 for cable..crazy!!!!

  • @TheJen73 I cant say for sure I have never looked at a 5 speed, best show my video to some friends who may be able to look at your car to determine if this is the problem... good luck

  • your a fucking joke

  • @331saleen Why do you say that?

  • @wildman102 Awsome, Im happy i could help....:-)

  • good job man lol. i like the applause..cheers.

  • Great job man! I've replaced them before. Nice share

  • @mbyr31

Thank you >>> Let me add that I worked @ a junkyard for 5 years as a dismantler(yardman) & i have always fixed my own cars...

(DONT TRUST REPAIR SHOPS) they are way overpriced & add bullsh!t to the bill.

  • @Luna7ick LOL, 31/2 years in the boneyard myself! Never let another soul turn a wrench on a vehicle of mine. ....LMAO, funny thing is, I just went to work for one of those kinds of shops.

  • I drove it like that for two years till I happened to find a good cable at the junkyard...got that one for 10 bucks, a couple weeks later the car was repossessed, LMAO!

  • HELL YEAH MAN! Genius! I had a 92 sunbird 4 cyl manual car. One of the few cars I bought on credit in my life. Well, about 2 weeks after I bought the car, the shifter cable shitted on me, one of the cable ends broke in a similar manner, but the cup was still there and would fit snug..just wouldnt stay on. I zip tied it on the side of the road, and bought another one from the dealer the next week. They sold me the wrong one ( I still have it 12 years later, in its box, lol) but I drove it .cont.

  • @utoobube

I think the ziptie would last longer than the engine.

A rubberband will need replacing , as it will dry rot from the heat.

  • @Luna7ick LOL, yup, I dont think a rubber band would be a permanent solution. To be perfectly honest, I was totally surprised that those zipties lasted as long as they did! (there were two xed across the cable end) I had even forgotten it was like that till I had to change my clutch, even reinstalled the same zipties.
