I was running the redsn0w and i selected the IPSW that i downloaded. And asked me if this is a new model of iPhone 3GS. It was saying something about serial number and "fixed bootrom." What does that mean?

i've just brought a iPhone 3GS today, so ia have a few questions.

I think it will come with the iOS 3.0, i need to update it for 5.0.1, right? i'm downloading the 5.0.1 for the 3gs from the link that you put on the description. I need to do a update, i use this firmware with itunes to install manually? I need to select the IPSW? What does that mean? The redsn0w will auto update my 3.0 firmware with a custom 5.0.1 firmware? :S

I have mac os x 10.5.8 and when I download it, it says not available on this architecture? I already tried pwnage tool but custom firmware never works. It always says on itunes, "preparing for restore and get error 1604. Redsn0w was easiest when I did it on my pc a while ago, but now I don't have pc. Any suggestions?

HELP BRO! stupid question.. I download the restore from that site you posted but when I go to select IPSW it doesnt even give me a option in my list like in your video.. kinda confused now

@AckerShawn Before clicking on restore, you have to hold down the Option key if you're on a Mac, or the Shift button if you're on Windows. While holding the buttons down, click on the Restore button without letting go of the keyboard. Once the dialog menu comes up like it does in the video, you can stop pressing the keyboard.

@JonseyTXBoy Right click on the .exe file. Somewhere within the tabs, you will find Run this program as administrator. Check the box next to it.

You may have already answered this..but do I need to reset and remove all my songs in order to do this? I've backed everything up and synd... and do I need itunes opened while I do this process. I've watched a million video's and read till my eyes ache.. Your video is the easiest to understand as your not talking to fast and you show everything in detail. @brianvidguy well it is a 3gs and this is not my first time jailbreaking either so not just cause i am blonde lol anywho it got stuck there then i got the apple logo forever so then i tried jailbreaking it about ohhhhhhh like 20 times to no avail. It just would stop in the middle of the jb and not complete with a little square at the top left of the screen, then the apple over and over, sooooooo had to do a complete restore on itunes arghhhhhh.

@TheSeedorf1020 Jailbreaking your iDevice will not harm it at all. It's completely safe. It will void your warranty if an Apple employee sees your device jailbroken. That is very simple to avoid. Just don't bring your device in to get looked at by Apple unless you have restored your device, thus removing the jailbreak.

@brianvidguy i was going to do this, but first i had to update my ipod. when i tried, my ipod unplugged from my pc (i heard the unplug and usb plug sound), then my screen blinked, then i get this error code:

the ipod could not be restored. an uknown error occurred (21).

what should i do? :(

@Duri3m This means your device is in DFU/Recovery mode. Unplug it from your PC and plug it back in. Then apply the steps to place it back into DFU mode again. The steps are in the video above. (Do not jailbreak, though. Only follow steps to put into DFU) Then try clicking the Restore button to restore your device.

@kingsley2146 It doesn't at all restore your device as far as I know. My device in the video above was already empty of all apps/music. Your music and apps and whatnot should be there after the jailbreak is complete through the method above I used in the video.

@marekx372 The webcam is built in to the Mac. Unfortunately, as far as Cydia goes I don't know the answer to that. I can answer your jailbreak questions, but for the time-being I need to get back into using jailbreaks to fully get used to them again before I can answer questions on that.
