I wish they'd bring Lea back to do Eponine in the film. She's much better than Samantha Barks, who literally sounds like she is "barking" out the lyrics. Listen to her, she's shouting!
Michael and Lea are absolutely AWESOME. I have watched this 10th Anniversary video at least 100 times. I never tire of it and I love the music so much. This one made this ole country boy cry. GREAT!
Best Marius and Eponine of all time! Lea Salonga has a voice of an angel! She's the singing voices of princess Jasmine of Aladin and Mulan... Awesome!
@cozzy3002 She did, but not as good as Lea in my opinion. Then again, Lea's been doing this for YEARS. Still, you can't compare this performance to the 25th!
@ilovejosephriviera I guess so, and I may have a little bias because I kind of have a crush on Samantha hehe. But, objectively, i think she did at least 95% as well as Lea. Nick Jonas did about 50% as well as Ball though. I don't understand why the decided to cast him.
debo de admitir qee el tiene una voz maravillosa INCREIBLE!! wow que pone la piel chinita pero no me parece qee nick jonas cante mal!!! no es justo qee lo critiquen cuando el ha hecho una gran trabajo =D
First time I saw this was from a borrowed VCD (yes it was still in VCD back then) from a friend. I was already a fan of Lea since I was I think about 5 years old when she landed the role in Miss Saigon -- i'm a Filipino of course it's Filipino pride. But it's her performance as Eponine that made me a forever fan of hers & of Les Miserables.
What really gave me chills in this scene is that it's not even a full-on stage performance & yet it was really gripping I shed a tear everytime I see this.
I'm convinced Michael's voice could heal wounds! It doesn't matter how often I'm watching this I will always be in tears and remain a secret Marinine-shipper!!
this rendition of lea & michael will go down in history as one of the best if not the best ever duet performed on the musical stage. these two can really sing.
@guerdonkun Michael Ball and Lea Salonga not only sing the hell out of this song, they act the hell out of it too. Without a doubt the best overall performance to be found.
Lea and Michael are the best performers for this song. They do it with such emotions and feelings not like samantha and jonas they kill the show, the worst ever.
@singactcheerlive there's actually a phrase in French: "faire une Cosette"... literally to "do a Cosette"... and it means, basically, to be a whiny brat. I laughed the first time I heard that... but it's so true.
@garr0414 go for lea salonga... coz she really did eponine on broadway, on tour & on the 10th lesmis anniv. whereas lea michele only did it during a concert @ hollywood bowl in 2008 i think. meaning she was never an 'official' eponine in the first place :))
I got to go back-stage once when Les Miz was here in Louisville,Ky...I got to see the costumes and props used in this show..i'll never forget this unique experience...I've only seen it on t.v. a couple of times, but i sure did enjoy it
I cannot watch this without crying. The peacefulness in Eponine's voice and the regret in Marius's that, as much as he'd like to so that she can be happy for once, he can't love her back, is heartbreaking. Lea and Michael and Samantha and Nick should consider themselves proud. Both pairs did a spectacular job.
Everytime i watch this.. I get tears in my eyes.. Poor Eponine.. May she rest in peace.. I like the acotrs that plays as Eponine and Marius. I wish i could have actually been there to see that play!!
I almost kind of am insulted that the audience even clapped at the end.
why would they ruin SUCH a poignant moment with inane clapping. It's almost like they think they can just clap after that? No. Something like this is not clapped to. Something like this is relished in silence, and is allowed to sink in. It's almost an insult to the tragic story of Eponine. I want to hear the odd sniffle and bawling, NOT nonchalant clapping! It deserves SO much more than that, clapping is inappropriate here.
I can relate entirely to your reaction. Such a powerful moment, and as you said, one that should be 'allowed to sink in'. The audience reaction invades those final moving moments between Eponine and Marius.
@ghareil um...I'm not sure how much you know about theatre, but it is customary to applaud after every number, happy or sad, as a sign of respect and acknowledgment for the actors and how hard they worked. It's an insult not to applaud a performance like this.
@14ocie I kind of realize that that is basic etiquette. I was trying to make a point that this performace was so moving and touching and all manner of feelings that it was almost jarring to hear clapping afterwords...
but I'm glad you respect the theater so much... sorry if that sounded personal to you in any way...
