for those of you that don't understand the song, you probably don't understand Tom's style of writing or what he was going through at the time of writing this song. In fact, the song is not that hard to understand. It is simply about being so down, that you escape away from it all. Direction has nothing to do with it.
The saddest thing about this video is that you can JUST TELL Howie is really ill. He looks so tired and worn down. He sang such beautiful backing harmonies.

My 14 yr old Daughter died 03/05/07 and i heard this song about 2 weeks after she died and it gives me a feeling that this was her way of letting me know she's ok and in a better place! I miss you Kelsey Ann with all of my broken heart. R.I.P.

My dad died a few years ago and was really getting back into Petty a lot around 1999-2000. He divorced my mother about a year previous to that record coming out... so this song meant a lot to him. Now that he's gone I just get crushed by the first few lines of the song.
