Remember that Asimo was introduced around '95. As far as "cutting edge" goes, the hardware is hardly that at all. It was 15 years ago, but Honda is constantly increasing it's functions and abilities, but mostly concentrating on its software. Still, for every robot for the last fifteen years to be compared to Asimo, it is still quite an amazing robot.

The only thing that any robots lack to have more natural movement is to hire animators and stop letting the engineers program the motions.

it's because it's not walking like humans/animals do.

if you 'project' it's mass center down you would see it's always covered with its 'foot'. that's why it's 'stable' and can 'walk' (even down/upstairs).

it's not like we do it.

FYI he can also run/walk up stairs (and fall down stairs and break down) hold hands/push carts/recognise objects based on their properties (but running looks creepy though)

Oh yes. And now they are entering our homes, in different ways. A friend of me have one in the garden. Also one to hoove the floor and one to wash the floor. They work, but ofcourse it is just the beginning :)

I just hope when the time comes that robots gain a self concoius we will be ready for any problems. personaly i don't think they will take over. i say this because they can learn to understand humans. each generation of robot will be better then the last. Like us and our learning process.
