So what Arron 3 should have done was make 3 tapes recording the days conversations (one for himself and two for Arron 2), gone through the box, confronted Arron 2, given him 2 recordings, told Arron 2 to go make a copy of the recording and then go away to the hotel room and then go through the box while Arron 3 used the recording to play out the week, when Arron 2 came out the box he'd confront himself, given him two of the recordings and then played out the week like Arron 3, making a loop?
Once you understand the story completely then everything makes sense as you watch it knowing what's happening in the scenes. when watching it for the first few times it's hard since the plot only gives you scenes that are very late in the development of the story of the duplicates, albeit early in the movie and you have only the merest clues. This scene is one of the most important it is the big reveal.
It has to be AT LEAST REMOTELY related to the detrimental effects of the machine use. At this point, they've been using the hell out of the thing, and we've all seen what's happened to their handwriting, Aaron's ear, Granger, etc.
the bleeding ears have to with the ear pieces. Aaron said something about it in the movie, as the "narrator" I think in this scene Abe realized what was going on, and freaked out a little bit.
@BlackNoir since abe was inside the box for a really long time he had a bunch of side effects (like accelerated ageing). though abe isn't grey haired, his body couldn't handle alot of what happened. this is also why they bleed from their ears, and why they can't write anymore.

Abe passed out from what Aaron knew about what he was going to say?
Or just the prolonged exposure to the machine's side effects? (Like the crappy handwriting?)
