Why title the clip Symbolism of European Flag, when you don't explain its symbolism. The clip is emotive crap. and the flag represents nothing but the artistic mind of its creator Arséne Heitz who in got his inspiration from a painting. The apologists for this poor work say that the 12 stars represent the perfect number but insist we use the decimal system of weight, measurement and currency proving as with everything about the EU that is either hypocritical or just plain stupid.

Dear woopeea, you may remember me from earlier comments. Last month I sadly decided to take down my EU flag, at least for now. I fear our politicians are incompetent, and our peoples are blinded by the glitter of fools or outright liars who promise but do not fulfill. I fear our currency is subjected to a bad drama series, spat upon by foreign media, and trampled by the ignorant masses who rely on that same currency. Is my flag nothing but a dream? @mez6117 the EU is made of democracies, the commission president is appointed by democratically elected national governments and approved by the democratically elected European Parliament. The European parliament has now nearly equal legislative powers to the national governments in the Council and the Commission does not decide on laws but only proposes and later implements them (or rather national bureaucracies do)... but you're right there are still some democratic problems...

What a load of rubbish - the EU is the most undemocratic and corrupt organisation in the world! I don't dislike our European neighbours at all - each country has its own attractions, its laws and its customs - having them changed from afar by an unelected body of misguided beaureaucrats, so that we all end up looking and acting the same, is a ridiculous and dangerous road to follow.
As a Brit I don't want it and no-one will ever convince me that the EU is necessary.

Das es Volksverdummer gibt, die die Schweiz nur allzuschnell integrieren sprich verkaufen wollen, bezweifele ich ja gar nicht und sehe es auch mit Sorge. Mitspracherecht würde ich auch nicht überbewerten, da ja inzwischen fast alle Gestze zwischen Kommission, Rat und Lobbyistenbzw. Industrie abgesprochen werden.

Ich schlage vor, Du liest mal das Kleingedruckte in Eurer (Nicht?)Verfassung genau durch, da steht es nämlich schwarz auf weiss. Nicht dass mich das irgendwie schützen würde als EU-Exilant, bemerkenswert ist es trotzdem. Wenn man die Todesstrafe als Möglichkeit irgendwo stehen hat, wird sie auch im Ernstfall wieder eingeführt, ähnlich wie Herr zu Guttenberg mit der Aussetzung seiner Wehrpflicht. Zwar gibt es in der Tat einen Paragraphen, der eine andersweitige Interpretation(!) zulassen könnte, doch andere Gesetze machen klar, dass die Todesstrafe klipp und klar verboten ist. Lies dir den Wikipedia-Artikel zum Lissabon Vertrag durch, da stehts.

The flag of the EU does not represent or symbolise democracy, because the EU isn't a democracy. In a democracy you vote for the future direction of your country.
The EU is not a country, the people of the EU vote for the MEP's which has ZERO power, and their policies have NO bearing on the EUs future, and finally the commission who lead the EU is elected by themself.

@mez6117 the EU is made of democracies, the commission president is appointed by democratically elected national governments and approved by the democratically elected European Parliament. The European parliament has now nearly equal legislative powers to the national governments in the Council and the Commission does not decide on laws but only proposes and later implements them (or rather national bureaucracies do)... but you're right there are still some democratic problems...
