idk i kinda like it. its good to get practice, even away from your kit. for instance, i'm too poor to afford a kit, so i just practice at my desk at school, but it really pisses off my classmates next to me :p
When training, I just detach the pedals from the kick drums. They have spikes in the footplates, so they don't move on carpet, and I do similar exercises to this.
Not as effective as a real pedal - the elastic band doesn't have the correct force compared to the pedal
the pedal itself has a powerful spring and the weight to lower and bring itself back up :/ elastic band won't help much at all - although it's a good thought
Heel down is great to learn from the start because although when you start doublebass you will want to play heel-up,(as your "heel-down" muscles are under-developed) when you start to get better and want to play faster it is much easier heel-down.
Although I don't know much on the foot muscles, this might actually be effective. Considering you can't always play your drums, you can do this when on the computer, doing constant quarters-eights-sixteens for a while which might improve your technique and muscle a lot.
no the actually "correct" way of doing it is to JUST use your ankle and not your leg at all - but the faster you get it is what most happens because your foot can't move that quickle without lasting for longer than a couple of seconds
this video was made for the people of pearl drumming forums, without knowing what the whole thing is about, i suppose it looks stupid, but if you did this would make a lot of sense
just got me a kick drum. how come when i watch drummers their right leg seems to go up in the air a fair amount (knee and thigh) like they are not keeping theyre heal on the pedal. How should I approach playing my bass drum?
im struggling, when i try that roll the foot thing (to get a double bass drum effect on one pedal) the pedal kinda flings and its all wierd. i should maybe stick to guitar hahaha
play heel up if your heels down it meen you only have movenent in your ankle were as heel up you have your thigh knee and ankle altho heel down can be helpful i use it on the hi hat all the time but also heel up aswel :P hehe

@OMGItsPhilipRedlund: Yes it is just a rubber band, but its the principle of the matter. it provides tension. Something your muscles need to build.
@olflatop: Sometimes you don't always have a kit to play of. This is more practical. Repetition is the key.

GEEEEEKKYYYY! and that's just a rubber band............

Um, I don't get it. Why not just practice on the kit? It would be a lot more productive.

or you could just play the drums and build up your muscle there lmao. why use a stick when you can use an actual bass pedal lol

lol word
or you could make a pretty lame rubber band based trainer...lol
thebirdman0 3 years ago
the thing is that with this "trainer" you may add more tension so it would build faster

your sopose to lift your heel up along with your leg a little not just your ankle
birdboy911 3 years ago
not necessarily true. Although more and more people are starting to play that way, heel down is a very accepted technique.

Very true, It depends on the drummer's personal style.
