@Babyt4 A major reason why the Shinjuku crossing is this crowded is because the timer is set for 90 seconds before the light turns green for people to cross. No wonder it is like this. Compare this to only ~45-50 seconds on NYC's busy streets. So, it's not really an apples to apples comparison.

Tokyo is one of the world's largest cities, but there is a lot of walking and running involved to make the train schedules, fight the traffic etc. The crowds of people is truly a sensory overload and when I return to the hotel room, I savor the peace and quiet.

It is not always this "ordery". Many times people do not finish crossing the street before the light turns red and the cars get a green light.
