Having owned a 914, and knowing its mid engined/rear drive liabilities when the foolish drive it at 90%+ and go into corners too hot, I've never been sold on the idea of adding more weight to the car to solve the lack of horsepower problem which is real. I guess it's because a Porsche 6 cyl engine is too costly and maintenance needy VS the Chevy V8,I just think it makes the car a bit of a monster to tame. Woulda been happy with 50 more ponies out of the 1.7, as it was the car hit 120.
My best bud in High School had one of these and he pulled that garbage for electronic fuel injection off, then replaced it with VW OR Porsche's aftermarket mechanical fuel injection AND overnight the car became reliable as a Datsun B210...

We jokingly called his car the "hand" because if there was any pavement to drive on that car would grab it. Perhaps the most underrated handing Porsche of all time. VW Or Porsche Engineers did finally power the car properly with a boxer 6. Love 'em.
Vey nice...My dad had one of these when I was a kid, it was orange, I think that was the original color. These things handle like they`re on rails, I loved riding in it with my pop. Thanks for the video. God bless.

the v8 About the same wait as a flat six. just a bit more top heavy. the hp puts it into corners very well.
